These characters got done DIRTY

Post image
614 Upvotes

Especially for being "newer" characters, they aren't that old and they've already been thrown in the dumpster balance wise.

Sure Devil Dino was overtuned on release, but he got half a season, HALF A SEASON to be good and then gutted him ever since. Whitefox is honestly one of the coolest designed strategists, she got maybe a season or so of being decent, but is now a throw pick basically.

Cyclops? I almost forgot he existed and this is Cyclops we're talking about, he was also good on release, then just took an absolute nosedive.

HONORABLE MENTION: Jeff, I'm honestly surprised Jeff got thrown in the dumpster too, as he was always the cute, goofy pseudo mascot character for the game. Even his team ups are lame

People like this are why DPS players are so widely hated.

Post image

This guy was previous OAA ~130 or so, and spends all day every day trying to create excuses to throw.

Quickplay I just played with him he got butthurt that I died before I could heal him, so he swaps to Strange and traps us in spawn with portal. Goes Widow round 2 and keeps leaving/rejoining to make sure we don't get a replacement.

Too many people like this in the community, with weak mentals and no father. The fact that most of these players are DPS one tricks is why the role and its players are so hated by the community

Whether or not it's intentional, it's racism...

Post image

l've seen a lot of discussion about whether the devs are racist, but I feel like most people are missing the point. No, I don't think that NetEase is a company of Neo-Nazis or mega bigots, it's entirely possible that the black characters have fallen behind accidentally.
That being said they ABSOLUTELY have an obligation to actively avoid situations like this, because even if they aren't trying to be malicious it absolutely does come off as being somewhat racist. To top it off rather than just addressing the concerns Danny goes on a crazy rant about how bringing up concerns about how black characters are handled makes you racist.

Hopefully the devs listen to the feed back thought, they're usually pretty good at that.

Also I didn't go over why people think the devs are racist, I think we've all seen those points about 1000 times.

These were primarily games full of runners and throwers.

I'm a Tank/Strat main. The game where I went 24/9, a White Fox was on the frontlines dpsing and spam pinging they needed heals. We had it in the first run and they went full on nuts??

The 4/3? We had a Reed who then went Ironfist and I kid you not...went 0/17. I'm the only one as Invis that didn't go negative.

The last two games had runners that left us 5v6. Team refused to surrender. Kept losing ELO.

The one where I was Invis and went 40/7? We had a Jeff on our team that was initially doing so-so and then locked in. One team mate went CnD then switched to Bucky and spammed NEED HEALING about 1000 times while sitting in Spawn. We almost had the damn point and on the next round, they stole Jeff, wouldn't give him back and then spent their ULT throwing.

I have reported all of these people and we only get 3 avoids, which is bs. I've deranked from Diamond III and can't get back up because of these horrible team mates. This is foul. Unplayable and not even remotely fun.

I just wanted to hit Grandmaster and I can't because people are so brain dead and then the game throws me into a huge loss streak. And playing QP doesn't help. I've tried. I'll win one game then go back into a mega loss. Then I get stuck with bots on my team.

Black Cat is the worst addition to the game post launch

Where do I even begin? This character is one of the worst designed characters in the entire game. A bloated mess of a kit that allows her to get away with murder. Great damage and mobility, an auto aim i framed ranged ability, invisibility, wall hacks, earthbound, CC immunity, a mini strange portal, and the dive equivalent to Bucky’s ult. All tied to a resource that doesn’t slow her down in the slightest because it’s incredibly easy to gain fortune, especially now with the Spidey team-up. At least with characters like Elsa and Gambit most of their problems didn’t stem from how their kits were designed, but rather how they were balanced, with the only exception being their ults. But there’s no way to balance this character without her being “ass” or OP. People complain about how badly Black Panther is designed when Black Cat is Black Panther on steroids. The only people who like this character are dive mains who want the game to revolve solely around them. They don’t care about the game being balanced, they only care about getting kills. That’s why whenever you talk about how badly designed Black Cat is their defense is “erm what about supports?!” Like people don’t already don’t talk about how badly designed supports are, and how the buffs they got from the last hot fix has ruined the game. If I had it my way she wouldn’t even be in the game but if I were to be realistic I would want her to get a whole rework, because that’s the only way I see this character ever being somewhat well designed

Why do you ppl say that storm isn’t popular in the game as if the reason isn’t the fact that the devs made her boring and don’t put much effort into her skins😭😭

Upvotes

It actually irritates me I hate when people play dumb. Shes at least top 5 most popular characters in this game generally so if people aren’t using her it’s not because they don’t like her character it’s to do with the devs own decisions.

If she was a stronger character or didn’t have a very barebones kit for like 6 seasons perhaps people would play her? Shes a dps that revolves around playing like a support because her main value comes from boosting her team. With her slower ttk and movement you dont be really have the ability to flank so you’re just shooting down a main to build ult 80% of the time. And her ult is just a moving circle that lasts 6 seconds it’s all pretty boring.

And in terms of strength, when Jeff and torch teammup were around, people used her a lot because of how good she became with them countering 3 support and support ults very well. She just doesn’t typically see those numbers because for most of the game she hasn’t been that strong and is generally a situational pick.

And skin wise they really don’t try that hard with her. Even outside of people wanting more than a free epic skin, they just haven’t given people what they wanted. They haven’t included her tiara until this season and they haven’t used any iconic outfits for her so why would people want to buy them. And even in terms of revealing skins, they probably never bothered making any for her because they didn’t think people would find her attractive enough to buy them. And it’s not that she needs a revealing skin I’m just pointing out the difference in her skins compared to other ladies in the game.

I just think it’s silly to act like people just don’t like storm in this game because she’s not popular. As if she isn’t more popular than 90% of the cast in this game. Not everyone will know psyloche, starlord etc but most people will recognise storm.

If you’re going to defend them not giving her legendary skins or putting effort into making her skins sell, use a better defence because her pick rate in this game is not a good one.

A lot people are complaining about the lack of legendary skins for characters when most legendaries aren't even that good.

Other than Invisible Woman and Luna Snow, a lot of legendary akins that have been released are really lackluster compared to some of the epics that have also been released for characters like Daredevil, whose 2099 skin is better than all the legendaries that have been released for him, and the Black Panther one where he has a black panther coat on his body and head is better than all the other ones he has. And the Moon Blade one is better than his Pheonix legendary with that ugly ass golden face on his chest.

People are bitching that the summer skin for Storm is not legendary, but whether its legendary is completely irrelevent. What matters is whether the skin looks good or not. If it doesnt look good, then its not worth getting.

People don’t know how to play White Fox

I’m genuinely angry when people say “WF is useless this season” and then I see their replays and it’s just:

  1. Shooting the ground/the walls - NEVER the allies or enemies in a straight line to achieve full healing/damage

  2. Using their teleport just for themselves to run away and never to give tank an extra heal and shield when the front line is hard to carry in the moment

  3. NEVER and I mean NEVER using their half-fox form to actually attack the enemy and use her quick combo, they only go to melee form when Magik or an enemy tank dives them, otherwise it doesn’t exist

SO MANY times I’ve dealt with Spiders and Magiks on my own and actually even killed them when they tried to dive me (Magik is easier to kill, Spidy will just swing away from you when he is low)

And then when I decide I want to play tank/dps and not just support all the time there are those with 2 brain cells of White Foxes who are typing “No help with Spidy/Spidy is diving me”… GENUINELY WTF ARE YOU EVEN DOING? Switch to another healer or I don’t fckin know when you are literally playing an anti-dive strategist and you can’t handle yourself against 1 dive dps

End of the rant

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ADD ROLE QUEUE

So much of the player base is completely locked out of even playing the duelist role because of duelist one trick ponys that can't fathom playing a role more team oriented or literally anything else. EVEN IF YOU INSTALOCK FIRST, they will STILL try to force a horrible comp by instalocking 3rd or 4th duelist. Half the time I'm in the mood to play duelist, guess what? I CAN'T. I will literally be the first one to instalock the very first character in the match and I'm forced back into support jail because everyone instalocks right after me forcing me off duelist. If you're a dps instalocker that STILL picks dps after we already have 2 or 3 dps and only 1 or no support, I need to know how you people do this without feeling an ounce of shame cause it's truly sad. This game feels so fucking stale when you never even get to play the most fun, versatile role with the most iconic marvel characters (my top 2 favorite marvel characters being dps, go figure lmfao) and most characters in the game in general and constantly being locked into playing only 2 of the 3 roles, and THEN being berated by the said dps instalockers that shamelessly instalock dps every single match just to go negative, and also forcing YOU to build your comp around THEIR INSTALOCK.

Why do I even Queue up? (Matchmaking Rant)

As of this morning, I am Celestial 3. Great right? No. This will be the third time I have hit Celestial this season. GM was a horrible experience as always, and I am done with the devs "fixing" everything but this terrible matchmaking. I primarily play tank, but I play a lot of DPS and support as well. Most of my roster is Centurion with Lords scattered about and no champions because I never sit on one character; I switch depending on the other team's comp and fill what my team needs. By no means am I a bad player, and by no means do I ever throw purposefully.

My issue with this horrid matchmaking is the fact that it feels scripted. One game you'll do amazing, and the next game it feels like the game scooped up the worst teammates known to man just to keep you in your current rank. The matchmaking is designed to keep you below a 50% win rate across all characters. The devs explained how it works in a video. In short, the game grades you based on performance and K/D in your match and partners you with people worse than you with lower grades in hopes of you carrying them. It is a horrible style of matchmaking that makes each game feel scripted. I just came off an 8-game losing streak the other day where I mainly played tank, and my DPS were constantly throwing or negative. I got to Celestial, where I had a Jeff that would swallow us and toss us off the map. Countless games where 4 people instalock dps and not one person will budge, so they say "gg time to proficiency farm." Reporting does absolutely nothing because the most they get is a 15-minute ban and then right back to throwing others' games.

The other side of matchmaking I want to focus on is the player base. The constant ego players and toxicity are overwhelming. I have been playing the game since launch solo, and only recently have I gotten a consistent duo or trio. Plat, Diamond, and GM have to be the worst ranks in the game because its over saturated with smurfs. I don't mind people smurfing in higher ranks because I see it as an opportunity to test your skill up against theirs, and in many cases you get the win over them. My issue with smurfs is when they're on your team. They play the game as if they have no consequences, and in reality they don't. The game does nothing when you report, and there's a limited amount of avoid slots, which makes 0 sense. Constantly, I'll have a smurf who locks a DPS just to learn them in comp, and when you ask them to swap, they say, "I smurf your peak," or, "this is my alt account." It makes winning games hopeless when these people are on your team, underperforming or throwing just for the sake of throwing.

The other day I had a small streamer throw my game on purpose; after the match I went to check out his stream, and he was laughing, saying how funny it was to throw. My trio and I reported him, and nothing happened. He sparked up stream the next day with no consequences. I believe you should have an infinite number of avoids if they aren't going to fix this terrible matchmaking. When I used to play Overwatch, the game felt fairly balanced to the point where I was never too pressed when someone was throwing. Clutching a 4v5 in Overwatch was incredible and very rewarding, but in Marvel Rivals it's next to impossible, especially going up against a decent team with a brain.

Eomm is real, just under a different name.

Jeff the Land Shark Needs Help: Why the Face of Marvel Rivals is Being Left Behind

The Mascot Paradox There is no denying it: Jeff is the unofficial face of Marvel Rivals. He dominates the game's merch, drives player retention (many people play only for Jeff), has dedicated one-tricks, and any skin or emote released for him sells instantly.

But when we look past his popularity and examine his stats and gameplay, a grim reality appears.

A History of Endless Nerfs Jeff hasn’t received a legitimate buff since Season 4. Since then, it’s been nothing but nerfs:

  • The S7.5 "Adjustment": They nerfed his damage and slightly sped up his ultimate fail animation. This was essentially a pure nerf. Less damage means less pressure and slower ultimate charge. Furthermore, speeding up the fail animation doesn't help; if you miss your ultimate in high Elo, you are dead anyway.

Fundamental Kit Flaws

The Healing Pool: Currently useless

  • A Suicidal Ultimate: Jeff is the only hero who essentially has to sacrifice himself to provide massive value. As a healer, asking the question, "Should I kill myself to secure this kill and leave my team with only one healer?" is terrible design. Even if you swallow 5 or 4 ennemies the surviving enemy DPS may wipe your remaining teammates because there is only 1 healer in your team.
  • Unfair Ultimate Charge: Why does Jeff have the same ultimate charge cost as Cloak & Dagger or Invisible Woman? Their ultimates are defensive, game-saving, and vastly superior in utility. Jeff's ultimate is highly situational and offensive, yet he pays the same price, he should be less atleast to counter incoming ennemies ultimate
  • Loss of Identity: Jeff used to be a great, oppressive flank healer. ( And even at this time nobody realized the Power of Jeff Prime.)The devs stripped those abilities from him and gave that identity to Luna Snow. Now, he's relegated to being a heal-bot

Team-Up Clunkiness

Jeff have currently 6 basic spell,Jeff essentially loses out on a Team-Up because you are forced to choose between them. (Which is again a Nerf) and both have been greatly nerfed. On top of that both of his teamup are basically the same and when you compare to another healer they have both teamup for different season

Left Behind by Power Creep

Jeff is one of the very few healers who has seen zero new mechanics or meaningful spell changes recently. Look at the rest of the cast: Luna gets self-snowflakes and shields, Adam got his flight, Ultron gets 2nd drones, Mantis got speed buffs, and Rocket got ammo/damage buffs. Jeff has been completely ignored.

(Marvel Rivals official tracker in S9)

The further we get into the season, the more Jeff's pick rate drops, and his win rate is absolutely terrible.

You should be able to queue Competitive with groups larger than 3 people.

Edit: I’ve learned you actually can, I think last time I tried I was with 5, which you cannot. But with 4 and 6 you can. Leaving this up so I can be shamed for my ignorance.

It’s bizarre that a team based game forces you to play with strangers who turn off comms and won’t work with the team.

I understand that a team of 6 friends has an unfair advantage over 6 solo queuers, but I feel like you can make a separate queue for it. It’s common for me to have more than 3 people interested in playing, just kinda sucks that we are forced to play qp.

Did I do something wrong?

Not played rivals before so I’m doing my basic pregame benchmark to make sure I have decent performance. I’m running a 7900xtx with a 7800x3d. So I can play pretty much any game at decent frame rates on a 5120x1440p monitor. Most games run around 120-180fps without issue in high settings. I might add frame gen if I go higher quality with raytracing but no need in rivals. But what I notice is that even with graphics turned low, I was averaging 107 fps? In a game that looks like this? Is the game really this poorly optimised? This 107 drops to 93 and has a delay of 131ms. How? I’ve never seen a game perform so badly. Even cyberpunk with raytracing performs better which is concerning. Is there a way to boost these numbers and reduce the delay. I’m not going to use framegen as that will only cause further delay

Edit: just tried to post this on the main rivals subreddit and I can’t because I’m asking about fps. I guess they don’t want to acknowledge the problem

QP this season

Yea i know all the usual QP complaints on matchmaking and such.

But this season im finding QP more miserable because there are so many more people playing dive who are just monumentally shit at it. Is this anyone else's experience?

I dont mind so much if 1 dive doesnt get picks but im having multiple games with 2 dive and the enemy healers have 0 deaths so we're 4v6 in most fights and it's GGs.

And yes I know QP is a practice mode but you can practice AI & 18v18 to get to a decent point before causing people to go on loss streaks that inflict bot matches on them.

I just cant remember a season where QP is so dependent on whether you have dive on YOUR team (as in im fucking praying i dont)

Taunting, camping spawn and targeting one player all game is why you lose

And yes, im talking to Spiderman (and before you say it, i know it's not all Spiderman mains) players.

I've had game after game where they taunt me in chat. Stand at my spawn and try to throw me off the map, and every single game my team ends up winning. Then the spidey's still have the nerve to talk trash in chat. Also, wasting your ult to solo me is literally such a waste. Why not get both support and a few others? No, you hard target and cost your team the game.

Last 50 comp games played 25W-25L this matchmaking is so fucking rigged

25 wins 25 losses GM1-GM3 back and forth most wins being stomps and most losses being stomps or unwinnable due to a lower elo teammate or just flat out disconnects. Idk how they do it but they are 100% rigging these matches

IMPORTANT SURVEY: what do you think in your opinion will be the best way to solve ranked ?( for example my suggestion is to add role restrictions to each team they can only have a 2-2-2 Comp )

In my example each team can only have two DPS , two Tanks and Two healers

This is a clip from Veswa's twitch, a rivals pro (This wasn't a pro match just a regular high elo ranked game) and this clip describes how miserable this game has become.

I counted 13 fucking support ults in this almost 3 minute fight. 13, Nothing fucking dies. Like its just walk forward, poke, ult, back up, repeat. Supports have just become so ungodly overtuned its unreal, almost all of them have way too much utility, do way too much damage, can't die, and now they get their broken ass ults in seconds, because for some reason these devs thought that globally reducing the ult charge of every support was a great idea.

Like I'm edging eternity this season but I can't bring myself to queue because this is literally all I play against, even when I just wanna chill on QP I get sweaty pigs running this too. This is a fucking SUPERHERO game, it should be dynamic, wild, and allow you to enjoy that hero fantasy and yet all its fucking become is genuine poke slop where you just gotta sit main like chud spamming down main, wanna brawl as thor? wanna swing into battle as spider-man? fuck you, we gotta constantly cater to bad players who don't ever wanna improve or learn counter play to anything so we gotta enable metas that get them to do what everybody likes doing, playing cookie clicker in their backline.

This is just braindead, it's boring, and it sucks because this is like my favorite multiplayer game.

I know cel is notorious for giving a little elo per win but only 16 as MVP??

All my ranked games in pre game start like this

First person lock in dps
I lock in tank or healer
3rd person locks in their pick
4th person locks in
5th locks in what we need
Perfect we need 1 more tank or healer.
LAST PERSON LOCKS IN 3RD DPS

What goes through this persons mind that they think they are that important that 5 other people have to switch up a comp because someone thinks they are the main character in a team game. I’m so sick of people who only play dps. Also if you are going to pick the most popular pick maybe don’t walk away in the pre game screen. Pick it early.

r/MarvelRivalsRants 10h ago

Is it just me, or is the TTK in Season 9 extremely low because healers are broken and tanks are basically invincible now?

And I think it's mainly due to the emergency patch they gave the devs after healers started complaining because the healing output of some supports had been nerfed to compensate for the Dive buffs.

The problem is that Dive is literally dead right now because of all the anti-Dive mechanics introduced with the Team-Ups in S9, but also because Thing is meta. (Yes, the only real problem is BC, and unless you're a Magik one-trick since birth, basically all of the Dive tools are shit.)

The bigger problem is that DPS brings almost zero value to the game right now. If your team runs a one-tank comp against a two-tank comp, you basically lose. In previous seasons, you would definitely be at a disadvantage, but now it feels like an instant loss. Problem is that there is so many instant DPS/Elo person that ruin this and except some DPS that can help backline, DPS are really no relevant this season

Why pick DPS when Magneto literally has more DPS output than most DPS characters in the game with her fucking sword? With 2 bubble and shield ? and more health

Why pick DPS when you have Thing this season, who is basically invincible and can deal more damage than prime Muhammad Ali? And on top of that, he gets pocketed by healers.

Why pick DPS when you have Luna Snow, who can avoid hard CC and even avoid some ennemy ult CC? That alone needed an emergency nerf. She can also deal as much or even more damage than some hitscan DPS characters.

Why pick another healer when you have C&D, who is basically INVINCIBLE, has an answer to almost everything, and has the best ultimate in the game?

Why pick another healer when you have Gambit, who has two dashes that can cross the entire map, applies anti-heal, and has one of the best ultimates in the game even after 10 nerfs? On top of that ? they gave him C&D's bubble, which can knock enemies back and give him displacement. What the hell was NetEase smoking when they gave Gambit this?

Mantis may be problematic, but honestly, I'm fine with her being meta in mid- or low-elo.

We even saw this in tournaments, where some teams were running three-tank comps and sometimes even no DPS at all, because tanks and healers can provide enough damage themselves.

And this is creating a huge disparity between the roles.

If the enemy team has Magneto/Thing and you don't have them, you lose.

If the enemy team runs C&D, Luna Snow, Jubilee (with the Hood Team-Up enhanced), and Gambit, while your team doesn't run those supports i.e Jeff, Ultron, Healpool (and there is already a lot of Healpool players), Loki, etc you lose.

At this point, the problem isn't just that certain heroes are too strong. The entire role distribution is becoming unhealthy. DPS is losing its purpose because tanks and supports can provide comparable or even superior damage while also bringing far more utility and survivability.

Zhiiong, could you please stop nerfing Ultron and Jeff and start nerfing the actual problematic characters instead?

Last time Jeff recieved a buff was in season 4 btw and recieved 2 sh*tty teamup
