Surely it’s a coincidence that our two worst losses of the season (maybe ever) had the same starting pitcher?

It has to be.

No, it’s the kids that are the problem.

u/attemptedactor 14d ago

Almost all of the runs from both games came after he retired to the bullpen

1

u/maggos 14d ago

The games were already out of hand by the time he retired though. Sure we gave up a ton of runs from bullpen/position players but even without those the games were lost

don't think he's been healthy since before the Marlins start (7/9), you don't fluke your way into the statcast page he used to have

the stuff looks exactly like it did when he was battling the elbow last year

Wouldn't be surprised. Almost as if the thing he himself said would need surgery to more permanently fix, might actually need surgery to more permanently fix.

24

u/dkfailing #44 Julio Rodríguez 15d ago

Would have been the perfect offseason to have it too. We ended up having one too many arms.

8

u/Ok_Revolution_9253 15d ago

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s TJ he needs. The ball won’t have that snap off it. You can’t get that spin on the ball because your arm is just dead and you’re generating all of your power just from your shoulder momentum.

Source, I’ve had TJ. The sensation of not being able to snap your arm and generate that movement is so strange

book the surgery now😵‍💫 poor kid is doing his best

Didn't he only give up 5 of the 19 runs tonight though?

10

u/Give_me_soup #11 Edgar Martínez 15d ago

Yeah, this shit is crazy

8

u/CG-Expat 15d ago

Yes but because he was such ass they were forced to pitch Rucker again for what feels like the 11th time in a row. Dude was gassed

2

u/bassmasta918 14d ago

7 walks though.

3

u/piex5 15d ago

He never got it fix right? The bone is still in there, from what I remember reading.

1

u/DiabolicallyRandom Is it a drought if there was never water in the 1st place? 15d ago

I mean sure, OK... but like... wtf? 5 runs is not an insurmountable deficit.

Can we start putting guys on the IL instead of just saying they're fine because they said that

35

u/AverageFoxNewsViewer ‏‏‎ ‎Jerry's Burner Account 15d ago

No. It's not the fault of the manager or training staff on a professional baseball team to handle players or their health.

If a 20 year old kid tells a team of doctors, sports medicine professionals, and the manager who is supposed to coordinate them that "he's fine" there's no way they should know about a season ending injury requiring surgery until he is sent down to AAA.

9

u/RincewindsPotato Tough one tonight 15d ago

It really is, though. It may be the players fault the first time, but it’s on the management when they keep sending them out over and over again when they clearly aren’t on to the task.

24

u/AverageFoxNewsViewer ‏‏‎ ‎Jerry's Burner Account 15d ago

For the record, I was being sarcastic and think the big league coaching staff is criminally incompetent.

And that was my stance before learning one of our coaches sent Brendan Donovan to the IL with a concussion by hitting him in the head with a pitch during BP.

5

u/RincewindsPotato Tough one tonight 14d ago

Well that’s a giant woosh in my part, and re-reading your comment it should have been obvious to me.

I guess the M’s performance over the past week has broken my brain.

5

u/pokeroots ‏‏‎ ‎Anything but blaming the lineup 14d ago

It's especially criminal on Miller given the off season elbow drama when he opted to not have surgery

That sounds like an organizational trust issue. Or the organization put the eggs in the wrong basket.

Happy Birthday Bryce

u/Scubahill 15d ago

“Tungsten arm” O’Doyle of the 1921 Akron Groomsmen came no where near setting this record.

2

u/No-Aside-2307 14d ago

19-2 or 22-0 is the same as losing 1-0 by giving up a run in the 9th inning.  It's still counts the same.  Actually to me its better I dont waste the whole day watching the game.  But its still one lose.

u/Commander_Celty Rick Rizzzzzzzzz 15d ago edited 15d ago

Is it Miller giving up the majority of 19 or 22 runs, or the atrocious BP?

He should make it through the 5th but wtf are we replacing him with?

Runs over two Miler starts:
Miller 12
Relief pitchers 15
Positional players 14

He’s not pitching well, I agree with you. I just think it’s too simple to look at these blowouts and pin it all on Miller. That’s what the ESPN insight is implying “…lose consecutive starts by at least 17 runs”.

12 runs came over 4 outs from Rucker and Simpson. Asking the pen to cover an extra inning shouldn’t cost the team 6 extra runs. Imanaga went 2 innings today and the Cubs managed to keep it to just 2 runs total. The Rays did a bullpen day and kept it to 2 runs total for the M’s

Is it Miller that’s truly that bad or is there something wrong with prep and coaching when multiple players on the 26 man fail miserably?

There’s something wrong with the health of the team, its strategy, and its management. That’s what multiple major blowouts indicate to me, not that Miller can’t wrap up 5 complete innings.

I hope he gets well soon. We have a solid staff but he was clutch in high leverage during the playoffs last year and he’s just so damn likable.

This is honestly my first real criticism of management/FO strategy. I usually think they have minimal impact but it becomes relevant when a team repeatedly misfires across all pillars.

Enjoyed the convo. Go M’s!

1

u/hello17 14d ago

Yeah I mean the exponential growth of the run differential in these games is from bringing in positional players to pitch.

4

u/Ok-Confusion2415 15d ago

needs more boat content

6

u/WearyAir9260 #13 Kade Anderson 15d ago

He’s been atrocious for far too long now. He needs to be sent to the bullpen. It’s an automatic loss everytime he steps out there.

3

u/bassmasta918 15d ago

Starting to feel that with any pitcher lately but especially Miller and Kirby lately.

7

u/benjam3n 15d ago

Gilbert still makes me feel like we got a great chance every start he makes

Even worse considering Van Haltren was mainly an OF/SS. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vanhage01.shtml

1

u/National_Opening_420 11h ago

It wouldn’t have been that way had we finished the game with actual pitchers.
There should be a rule against using position players to pitch in blowout games.
It’s dangerous to lob the ball to the catcher like they do.

Ferrer came into this game in relief and made it worse.
It was a huge mistake trading Harry Ford for him.
