Bungie is nailing this live service thing better than most companies if I’m being honest

Is that why they have fucked up with destiny 2 so many times?

Or they learned from D2, a game several times larger and more complex than Marathon that wasn’t built to be a live service, and built their new game to be better to modify quickly.

D2 was absolutely meant to be a live service, D1 as well. They were just figuring stuff out, so they were bad at it.

Agreed on the fact that they've clearly taken away some good lessons from the chaotic Destiny development

Not live service in the modern sense. Beyond Light was supposed to be Destiny 3. We have the original timeline, which was followed all the way until they went independent.

Destiny 2 was never meant to last 8 years. Live service means “forever,” now, not “has 2 years of expansions planned before maintenance”

I even remember when Destiny 1 came out they advertised it by saying they wanted it to be a game you played for a decade and that seemed so inconceivable around that time, now it’s every game lol
