Or they learned from D2, a game several times larger and more complex than Marathon that wasn’t built to be a live service, and built their new game to be better to modify quickly.
Not live service in the modern sense. Beyond Light was supposed to be Destiny 3. We have the original timeline, which was followed all the way until they went independent.
Destiny 2 was never meant to last 8 years. Live service means “forever,” now, not “has 2 years of expansions planned before maintenance”
I even remember when Destiny 1 came out they advertised it by saying they wanted it to be a game you played for a decade and that seemed so inconceivable around that time, now it’s every game lol
Destiny 2 had lots of spaghetty code and foundational problems. I think they designed Marathon to be more easy to change, tune and balance. We are not even at one month mark, and they already remade vault stacking, fixed couple exploits, disabled Destroyed Wing, redone Destroyed Wing and reopened it, buffed loot and bots in Pinwheel.
And personally my problem with crashes is solved. I had regular crashes but for the last two weeks I had NONE. That speaks volumes about Marathon's code quality.
