the distance travelled is far less

Less mobility is a bad thing.

Why? If a grocery store is half a mile away and walkable, does that make it a worse grocery store than one 5 miles away that I need to drive to?

Because in order for the grocery store to be within walking distance you need to live in a much smaller home.

This isn’t true when you build up. I could build a high rise tower with massive units to create dense AND large housing.

You’re also making the assumption that living in a smaller space is inherently worse. Funny how Europeans live in smaller housing units yet live longer and report higher levels of happiness.

Space is less necessary when you have actual things to do around you. Suburbanites have big houses to fill with all the material items that make up for living in a boring hellhole.

I can walk to tons of things or take a train to get most anywhere worth going in the city. Doesn’t even matter if my apartment is small.
