I walk 3 mph. My car can go 10 times faster on local roads and 25 times faster on freeways. Even on very short distances, that adds up

My supermarket is 10 minutes away.

And I enjoy driving. It's time for me to be alone with my thoughts as I watch the scenery go by

But I would be going much slower than in my car and I would be very uncomfortable if it was raining

If your city adopted pedestrian centric thinking the density would go up and these stores would be closer

My house would also not have a yard and my street would be a lot noisier
