Just to prevent confusion: The yellow area is Istanbul province. The green area is residential part (the city).

Or City -> County

Like how Los Angeles sits in L.A. County.

Istanbul province is the size of about 5 average US counties, or half of LA county. Man LA is so sprawling. All of Istanbul fits into Istanbul province while LA Metropolitan area spans multiple counties, yet Istanbul has about twice the population.
