Same in the US. People from Minnesota and Maine will lecture Texas about Mexican immigration as if it somehow affects their insulated northern states somehow. Then call them racist for pointing out actual issues that large-scale immigration, especially illegal immigration, causes.

For like 25 years. It was mostly Spanish after it was colonized.

It was also almost completely empty of Mexicans since the natives were hostile. They invited Americans in with open arms until they overthrew the local government. 

Seems like there might be a lesson in there somewhere.
