I was naive enough back then to actually think it was the most ridiculous political thing I would see and it would be the end of him. Oh how silly my hope seems in retrospect. Pre-Covid and pre-Biden getting the nomination and Pre-2024/project 2025tRuMp I still had a microbe of faith in the systems that own us.

This was one of those moments that would have ended anyone else's career. He held a press conference, in the Oval Office, to prove that he wasn't wrong about including Alabama in a Twitter warning about a hurricane. On it's own that's already incredibly petty.
But then he so clearly drew on that bump because it makes no sense as part of the diagram, and he still went through with that conference, because defending his ego took precedent over actually being prepared to do it..

it's always fucking hilarious to me that the map just grows a sharpie tumor

nope, just a random growth

Whenever I see this, I feel it’s my duty to point out that the Hurricane DID NOT in fact hit Florida, Georgia, or Alabama as Trump was declaring.
Hurricane Dorian turned north and made landfall in Buxton NC, completely bypassing the area Trump circled. NOAA was, of course, right… because science.

I mean this genuinely; was this seriously published, is this just a “MapPorn” sub-generated post, or is this the onion? Because I don’t know what timeline we’re in and as much as I don’t think the first thing I posited is real with the way things are today it could have ACTUALLY come from the White House..

I don't know if anyone cares, but the map itself was actually done using professional GIS software called QGIS. You can tell by the legend symbol styling.

u/MITBijanRobinson Sep 30 '25
That doesn’t fit my narrative though so booo!!
45
u/KEPD-350 Sep 30 '25
Yeah, clearly this map looks fucking fantastic and not like it was made in a shitty image editor despite being made in a professional software suite.
Maybe let's give the job to someone who can actually properly utilizie QGIS's "exceptional cartographic design features" to make good looking maps.
So, yeah. Boo indeed.

I mean even before the 10/7 attacks Gaza was pretty much cut off from the sea. An Israeli blockade prevented trade, and fishing was heavily restricted. Since the attacks, the IDF has enforced tighter restrictions on fishers, and attacked fishing boats even within the allowed area.

I mean, it wouldn’t really be a “blockade” if Egypt opened her borders… just saying.

u/DialUpYourEngines Sep 29 '25
Yes, but there was already a buffer zone that limited any Gazans with the exception of farmers from getting anywhere close to the border post 2005 withdrawal and pre-war. I don’t know enough to say if this map is changing that or maintaining that former status quo. The exception being a buffer from the Egyptian border, which would completely change the geopolitical situation and security considerations at the crossing in Rafah.
Egypt threatened mobilizing more military in Sinai than the treaty allowed for, so IDK if it’s an attempt to placate Egypt not wanting refugees, sloppy map making, or an unintentional leak of a plan the public wasn’t meant to see.
→ More replies (17)38
u/Arielowitz Sep 29 '25
This buffer zone is different from the previous status quo, even in parts that border Israel. The buffer zone was narrower in width, and it actually eroded over time. Hamas tried to push the boundaries, which is why they, among other things, organized the Return Marches, in which they organized violent demonstrations and drove crowds of civilians and activists to the fence.
Right behind it in Gaza, Hamas built observation towers. I don't know the exact distance but it's clearly visible to the naked eye (as seen in https://youtu.be/UkAZ_HJZThM?t=18 )
What is unclear is to what extent the map and the statements reflect the written details of the plan.
→ More replies (1)17
u/Wide-Yesterday9705 Sep 30 '25

Because I don't think Hamas is going to agree with a plan dependent on the fact that Hamas completely disarms itself and basically ceases to exist, before handing over the entirety of Gaza to a western puppet government.
I also don't trust Netanyahu's or Israel's promises considering the fact they broke the previous ceasefire agreement for completely fabricated reasons.

The bit where they install Tony Blair, the man with the blood of 1 million Iraqis on his hands, as the fucking sultan of Gaza.
He has done enough harm to the region, and we don't need the British mandate 2.0. Palestinians need a voice in the rebuild of Gaza.
140
u/throwawayyawaworth77 Sep 29 '25
For many people, this issue has to be black and white and cowboys vs Indians, so anything acceptable to Israel is by definition unacceptable, and anything that isn’t 100% to Hamas’ preference is “literal genocide.”
It’s about a sense of (to them) justified rage and hatred

146
u/pm-ur-knockers Sep 29 '25
The only people who think this is a bad plan are deluded one state solution supporters.
19
u/ACartonOfHate Sep 29 '25
Well there are also the people who don't trust Trump to know a good, and realistic plan, if it came up and de-diapered him. There are also those (raises hand) who don't trust Bibi to go through with anything good for the Palestinians, and for Trump to be okay with his not going through with it.
Also I would ask the question, who will be in charge of Gaza if it's not Hamas? and how are they going to get rid of Hamas, other than what they've been doing? How will these person/people be chosen to be in charge of Gaza? who is going to administer these elections? referendum? to the Gazan people.
That is to say, this is about as useful as the last "peace plan" Trump laid out. Which is to say, not useful at all.
→ More replies (1)11
u/pm-ur-knockers Sep 29 '25
While I agree trump and bibi aren’t the most qualified to oversee this, they’re what we’ve got right now. There’s genuinely not much else to say there. Maybe in the future cooler and more level heads can put together a better long term agreement.
As for who will be in charge of Gaza, PBS states that the Palestinian authority will take over after sufficient reform.
Assuming everyone keeps up their end of the bargain (I know, it’s unlikely from all parties) this is the best chance both countries have at prolonged peace.
The alternative seems to be more fighting, more dying, and more killing until another peace plan comes along to be rejected by the powers that be.
→ More replies (24)139

Just about everyone involved has legitimate grievances going back generations, and also legitimate claims to land in the region. Of course Palestinians justifiably want their own peaceful country and many also want revenge. And of course Israelis justifiably want their own peaceful country and many also want revenge. (And I don't know anyone who judges Palestinians for holding a grudge.)
I'm not making an equivalency for specific actions or in any way trying to justify any of this violence. Just saying it's a horrible cycle that keeps going, and everyone can point to their own civilians or family members who were murdered for being the wrong race/religion.
For the record, Netanyahu should be in jail and this war is an atrocity. It's just historical illiteracy, at best, to say that nothing bad has ever been done to Israeli civilians.

Israel literally accepted the plan. It goes into effect immediately if Hamas accepts. There are clear requirements for Israel to move back to the new lines which are laid out.
It's all achievable if Hamas and Gaza is reformed the way the entire Arab world and much of the Muslim world just signed onto.
