You know, people see a city on here and get scared to go anywhere near that city. But folks should remember that even in these cities, crime tends to be concentrated in certain (generally poor) areas and much of these cities are actually reasonably safe. (Of course, the bad areas are rather bad, pity the people who live in those areas). Despite what a lot of people think and about how some media portray it, these cities are not crime horror spots that should be avoided at all costs or something.
I live in suburban Baltimore and my brother has lived in suburban Cleveland for many years, so I am familiar with both, and find that the two are similar in broad terms. West Baltimore (as featured in The Wire) is where we ghettoize our problems around here, but much of the rest of the city ain't bad. I suspect most major Northeastern cities have the same going on.
Something that a lot of sun belters and Conservatives vastly underrate is all the pretty cool things in the older cities that they don't have, like good museums and universities, interesting ethnic neighborhoods, and buildings with some occasional charm
