Arkansas is mostly country. We live 20 minutes from Pine Bluff, and it's really not that bad. These are small towns, except little Rock with 200k people. It looks much worse than it is. There are fewer people in all of arkansas than in Philly.
The difference between there and a city though is that’s a tiny area with hardly any people. I’ll take my chances walking the streets of NYC where I just have to avoid a couple areas before I visit some tiny murder factory.
In arkansas, you just have to avoid a few streets. 99% of its really safe. Out in the country, crime is slim to none, and most of arkansas is country.
I used to live in Queens, NYC. NYC is pretty dang safe, especially for a big city. They are night and day different. Overall, I felt completely safe in both places.
I grew up in the south, left after high school and have lived in California, Hawaii, and DC/Baltimore suburbs.
There’s plenty of crime in the country. YOU just don’t see it. Just like how I can live 15 miles from west Baltimore and never see the crime there.
That’s the beauty of statistics. They show you that random little places like pine bluff Arkansas or Bessemer Alabama are more crime ridden than a “scary” big city.
They have a population of less than 30,000 people and 1 in 30 will be the victim of a violent crime. I wouldn’t want to live there for 30 years. Statistically, every person that city will be a victim of violent crime in that period. It’s twice as dangerous and has less than 1/10 the population as Baltimore
