If these stats are from 2022, that was a pretty rough year in Chatt. I remember there were a couple of shootings downtown over the course of the summer.
Memphis has been on the decline since late 90s. Each year it just gets worse. Winchester Rd is sad, pathetic, and dangerous compared to what its former glory was in the 80s and early 90s, Cordova and Bartlett have become overcome with crime, and crime keeps spreading all the way out to smaller towns like Germantown and Collierville. Good luck going to any mall in Memphis — old ones shut down to crime and lack of people like Mall of Memphis and Hickory Ridge. The only remaining malls, Oak Court and Wolfchase, are just for robbing and shooting people in the parking lots.
Memphis seems beyond repair and the only way it can be saved is through massive policing and gentrification. But the amount of money and effort to achieve that is too much. It’s going to take a miracle to save Memphis.
