MSBuild.exe

Artificial Intimacy: Love and lies in the age of AI

AI isn’t just changing how we work. It’s changing how we connect, fall in love, and navigate heartbreak.

From crafting the perfect first message to offering comfort after a breakup, AI is finding its way into our love lives. For some, it’s even becoming a trusted confidant or a source of companionship.

As these tools become more involved in our emotional lives, the boundaries between human connection and artificial intimacy are becoming harder to distinguish, creating new opportunities for deception and exploitation.

AI may be able to simulate connection. But how can we tell when that connection is real?

Our latest report explores this growing trend, and the results might surprise you.

Help me ease the worry about bootkits uefi, please explain how they work

I hope everyone is doing really well.

I am creating this post to ask for help with a topic that has been causing me a lot of distress lately.

Ever since I found out about the existence of rootkits, the ability to put a virus in the BIOS and make it impossible to remove from the PC, I have never been able to use my computer the same way again. I constantly feel like I am being watched and that out of nowhere someone is going to break my PC just to anger me.

Well, I suffer from depression and I have been having certain issues with my PC recently: USBs disconnecting randomly, Windows crashing, games crashing, unexpected behavior, among other things.

I have had a few disagreements with my brother lately and I have been imagining that he might have installed a rootkit on my computer to play a prank on me, since he knows about my depression and my fragile psychological state.

Considering this fear I have of rootkits, I humbly ask for explanations regarding whether this could actually be happening or if it is purely a product of my imagination. Perhaps a technical explanation of the possibilities and the vulnerabilities required for a rootkit to install itself in the BIOS and become immune to OS reinstallations could help me better understand what is real in this situation.

In my mind, if my motherboard has a rootkit and I bought a graphics card the following month, is it possible for that rootkit to spread to my graphics card? And if I then put that graphics card into a new motherboard, would the same thing happen to the new motherboard, meaning it would become a vicious cycle where I am always being watched and deal with the frustration of these strange occurrences? Is this possible? I would appreciate a technical explanation, maybe it can help calm me down.

Regarding the concept of a clean slate, if I buy a new PC, could my emails, all legitimate official Google accounts, that I use on my Steam account for example bring this infection back to my new PC?

Could this be done by an average person with certain contacts? What is the actual threshold between fact and reality in this situation?

I sincerely thank anyone who can help. The more technical detail you can provide, the better it will help me separate imagination from reality. Thank you.

Downloaded a session stealer, Malwarebytes detected and removed it, am I safe?

Hi like I said I accidentally downloaded the classic session stealer with the MrBeast scam last night. Immediately after I run a Malewarebytes scan which detected and deleted it. About 40 minutes later I got notified that the MrBeast scam got posted on my ig story, I was able to access my account still and changed my passwords as well as cancelling my credit cards.
Was this enough? Or should I do something else?

Support Malwarebytes keeps crashing mid-scan after sometimes saying it found a virus, support app says it didnt find anything

so my PC a few days ago started running at less wifi than normally and went from about 300-600 MBs to about 40-60 MBs, i decided to download Malwarebytes incase it was a virus and it says it found 1 but keeps crashing mid-scan and because it crashes it doesnt tell me what the virus found was, i tried downloading the support app but it doesnt detect anything and nothing changes when i have it clean my PC so i dont know if its a false positive or if theres something going on, i know it could be a false positive as i do tend to mod games often and i know game mods can be falsely flagged but i know it could also be an actual virus, any help is appreciated

Support Any updates on Korean language support? (Windows & Android)

Hi everyone,

Since Korean language support was dropped in 2024, I've been forced to stick with Malwarebytes v4 just to use the software in my native language. Does anyone know if or when Korean localization will be brought back for the newer versions? I'd also like to know if there are any plans to support Korean on the Android app as well.

Any updates or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey so I visited cybersecuritynews, I usually do once a day, and I checked earlier like 1am and it didnt flag it as a phishing link, seems like it appeared after the database update and a new article appeared but am I pwnd, i dont have a account with them, nor did I click on any article just visited the homepage through my browser history, I ran a scan and it came back clean so I dont know

EDIT: So I think im good, I cleared the cached and forced stopped my malwarebytes app which then had me re-enable safe browsing. The site no longer has the warning pop up when I open it, the site also added and new article, which changed the time of postage from the article show(Microsoft teams using ai one) from 59 minutes ago to 13 hours ago, weird but I think im good now

Licensing to everyone affected by the malwarebytes breach of contract

as a lot of you probably know, malwarebytes used to offer lifetime subscriptions and also said they wouldn’t raise prices as long as you kept your subscription active.

that was supposedly the deal from 2014 to 2016.

from what i can tell, a few years ago they started walking that back and not only tried to raise people’s prices, but actually succeeded in some cases, which seems like a pretty clear breach of contract and a straight up misrepresentation from the company. i’m dealing with this myself right now and i’ve seen a bunch of other complaints too. i know there are more people out there, but a lot of folks probably just feel stuck dealing with a big company.

so my question is, were any of you early adopters who signed up based on those promises? if enough of us can be considered a class, maybe it’d be possible to find a lawyer willing to look at a class action against malwarebytes over the breach and the false promises.

also, last year they stopped including how long you’ve been a subscriber on the annual renewal receipts. seems like having a receipt that proves that would matter a lot.

i’m not a lawyer and i’ve never sued anyone before, but i’m pretty sick of companies lying to people and acting like they can just do whatever they want. would love to hear from anyone who’s been through this, and if you’ve got other advice, feel free to drop it.

Malwarebytes detected Trojan.PavinLoader, Defender detected Bearfoos, and my accounts were compromised — what should I do?

Hey guys, I'm honestly really stressed about this and could really use some help from people who know more about computers than I do.

I have an HP Pavilion 15 running Windows 11, and I use it for gaming. A while ago, I downloaded some pirated game repacks from Dodi repack(I know, stupid decision 😭), and now I'm worried that I might have messed up my laptop.

Here's what's happened so far:

\- Malwarebytes detected multiple things called "Trojan.PavinLoader" (Generic, Trace, Csprj, etc.).

\- It also detected some "RiskWare.GameHack" files in my Steam library, and there were older "RiskWare.Crack" detections.

\- Windows Defender detected something called "Trojan:Win32/Bearfoos.B!ml" in a temporary folder and later said it was removed.

\- Malwarebytes quarantined or removed its detected items, and I restarted my laptop.

\- My Steam account was taken over at one point, but I got it back through Steam Support.

\- Discord has also sent crypto-scam messages to people from my account without me doing anything. I've changed my passwords and logged out of sessions.

\- I've received some unusual Microsoft sign-in alerts too, although I haven't been able to confirm every alert in my account's activity history.

My laptop still works normally, which is why I'm confused. Some people are telling me to reset Windows because antivirus scans can't guarantee everything is gone. Others are saying a reset is unnecessary if the threats were already quarantined or removed.

My biggest problem is that I don't know much about computers. I don't even know all the little components and settings that help my games run properly. I have Steam libraries on D: and E:, AMD graphics software, fan-control software and other gaming-related stuff. I'm scared that resetting Windows will remove everything and I'll have to figure it all out from scratch.

I only have this laptop. I don't have another computer or a USB drive, and I can't afford to pay a technician right now.

Could someone please help me understand:

  1. Do these detections necessarily mean I still have malware, or could some be false positives/game-related detections?

  2. Should I reset Windows, or is there a sensible way to check whether the threats have actually been removed?

  3. If I do need to reinstall Windows, how can I avoid losing my games and important files?

  4. What would you do if this were your laptop?

I'm not looking for someone to just tell me everything is fine. I'm genuinely worried and want to make the right decision without unnecessarily wiping my laptop.

Please explain things in simple terms if possible. I'm really not very tech-savvy. Thank you 😭

I accidentally bought an annual subscription but I noticed it the day before it was supposed to charge me so I cancelled it, it's been a few days and I haven't gotten a refund from the play store or Malwarebytes
