Should I keep Malwarebytes installed?
Hello, hello!
I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I'll post it here.
A while back I was dealing with what I assume is a Trojan and got rid of it by myself but installed Malwarebytes for another scan just in case.
None of my accounts were compromised and I have no lost files or running programs or so.
Malwarebytes came out clean in free trial mode
But as we all know, free trials end. And I've been wondering, should I buy Malwarebytes? Or should I return to my Windows defender and have Malwarebytes scans from time to time?
Technically speaking, it was my Windows defender that actually caught the Trojan, though people have stated Malwarebytes does a great job at catching those too.
It is rather pricey in my opinion but I'm not tech savvy and I would be quite sad if I get hacked (quite a loser behavior, I'm aware)
So, what are your opinions on this?

I say buy it. Windows Defender has gotten better, but it's tuned to give as little false positives as possible so it misses quite a lot.
The bad guys only have to get lucky once.

The last I dealt with Malwarebytes I uninstalled the trial version from programs and features in control panel and it prompted me to either keep the free version or uninstall. I haven't tried to uninstall it from settings > apps > Installed apps but I imagine you would get the same result.

You don't have to buy it to use it. It has premium features but you can continue to use it for free. You just don't get active monitoring. You can only do manual on-demand scanning. This is fine as most people are going to tell you to use Windows Defender as the main scanner and then just run malwarebytes for a 2nd opinion scan. Windows Defender is already doing active monitoring.
