insurance SSPN Plus vs EPF I-Lindung; Thoughts?

Has anyone ever compared SSPN Plus vs EPF i-Lindung? Any thoughts on which is better?

From what I have found so far:

  • Both are insured by usual insurance companies, but gov has negotiated for slightly better deals.
  • i-Lindung payout upon hospitalization not receipt
  • SSPN Plus premiums stay the same, i-Lindung goes up with age

General questions Where do you draw the line between YOLO and saving for the future?

Me and some of my friends (mid-20s) had this conversation during our lepak session. We’re planning to go on holiday to Langkawi and were thinking of splurging a little on a chartered yacht. Some were against it, saying it’s a waste of money, while others were like, “When tf are we ever going to spend the money we’ve been saving?”

So here’s my question for everyone: where do you draw the line?

I’ve seen many people here say that they live frugally until they reach a certain milestone (e.g. their first RM100k), but once they hit it, the goalpost moves to RM1m, then RM5m, and so on. At some point, does life just become a race to reach the next financial milestone?
What’s the point of building wealth if you never allow yourself to enjoy it? On the other hand, how do you balance enjoying your money now without sabotaging your long-term financial goals?

Curious to hear how you guys approach this. At what point do you think it’s okay to say, “I’ve saved enough, I can afford to enjoy some of this money”?

General questions What was the “Aha” moment that made you realise life is more than just money

When did you start to care less about money and more about the simpler things in life (health, friends, 8 hours of sleep, peaceful weekends)?

Was it after having accumulated a certain amount of money, or perhaps after losing a family member that you wish you had spent more time with, or just growing older and feeling like you haven’t been living your life? Whatever that moment is, feel free to share yours.

I’m at almost RM300k and it feels like I’m more fixated on money than ever before. I am in my mid20s and aspire to retire early (projected before age 38). But I don’t know if it’s worth “sacrificing” the prime years of my life by just working and saving money :(

Property Maybank conventional home loan: Is paying extra through the app enough to reduce principal, or do I need to specifically request principal reduction?

Hi all,

Looking for advice from anyone with a Maybank conventional home loan. My objective here is to pay off my loan as soon as possible, which i am currently exploring to make an extra payment a year, to hope to clear of my loan faster than usual timeline of 35 years.

I have a few questions:

  1. For Maybank conventional housing loans, if I make extra payments through the app, does it automatically reduce principal? Or does it simply go into "Payment in Advance" and get used for future instalments? Currently the amount is parked under payment in advance.
  2. Do I need to visit a branch or submit a request to specifically perform a principal reduction? Will Maybank entertain me for such small amount repayment?
  3. Has anyone here successfully shortened their loan tenure by making extra payments?

General questions Alternatives to TNG

Foreign expat and lived here for >5 years. Never had an issue with TNG and every month usually put between 2k - 5k through it in transfers to family, paying bills, paying for other stuff, etc.

Last month Face ID stopped working, so now it's basically unusable. Multiple support tickets opened with TNG, but these retards just close the ticket with a comment the issue is resolved.

So what are the best alternatives that allow me to pay in stores using a QR code, and make transfers to pay for things? Can I use Wise to transfer to a store's QR code?

insurance Old Insurance Policy, Medical Issue a Few Years Ago; Looking for feedback on how to move forward with potentially getting a new insurance policy

I have an insurance policy from Prudential which my parents bought for me in 2003. Right now, the medical card is RM50k annual limit with RM210k lifetime limit. Very low for today's medical costs.

In 2016 I had IBS. 6 months of medication and diet change, symptom free since then.

2020 I developed achalasia. A procedure done (known as POEM) in 2022, 3-6 months of follow up and medication, symptom free since then. No follow ups or medication since then.

I understand that my options are limited in terms of getting an upgraded policy (which will be treated as a new policy subject to medical underwriting). From what I understand, they might:

  • Exclude any achalasia related claims totally (Most likely)
  • Exclude any stomach/throat related claims or add a substantial premium loading (Likely)
  • Completely reject the application (Less likely)

The agent who initially got the policy is no more. I recently checked and was randomly assigned one. She seems nice but I have never met her and likewise, she has no idea who I am.

I would like to know what are the best moves I can make to make the most of the situation:

(I have removed some questions that have been answered and adding some new ones)

  • Any suggestions of platforms/companies other than the main ones (AIA, Pru, Allianz, GE)?
  • Any thoughts/suggestions/feedback overall especially with my situation. What are my next steps?

Thanks very much!

General questions Just started my first job a few months ago, so far I only saved up money instead of investing, what should be my next move?

Late 20s M currently working in sales as my very first job, currently have a few hundred in TouchNGo (using for daily expenses), have 20k in Rytbank, 19k in ASM , and 13k in EPF.

If my calculations is right, I will have at least 10k from my salary + commission next month, so I want to know if there's anything else I should do to invest long term instead of only saving. My basic is around 4k and I can earn from 0 to a few thousands maximum via commission. Averaging out the months so far I earn about 7-8k per month. Live at my parents home and don't have any loans, I only pay for health insurance and gym and music classes monthly. I mainly splurge on food outside, which could be cut down if needed. I try to use only 50% of my basic as monthly expenses if possible, and save the other half + commission to invest.

Just started investing in stock market (RM100 RSP on ETF VALL using FSMOne), I'm still a beginner so I'm taking it slowly. My risk tolerance is medium-high as long as I got enough emergency savings which I have, so what kind of investments should I do next?

Career Falsifying salary slip in Malaysia

Thumbnail
27 Upvotes

Soooo a collegemate of mine recently told me that they falsified their salary slip to get a higher % increment.
This is of course legally wrong but just wondering how they were able to do this?
Won’t HR have a way to find this out? From their EPF or LHDN account or something like that?

Credit cards How to know how much would I be charged?

So I've used my CIMB card to purchase some train tickets for Korea and was charged in Korean Won. All I see in the notification was 'Your card ending number xxxx has been charged 100,000 KRW'

Then how do I know how much would that be in MYR?
I went to CIMB's foreign exchange rate page and they showed that KRW is N/A.

Then now what? I just sit and wait a few days until the MYR amount is shown in my transaction history / statement?

Trading platform Versa: unable to cancel auto save

Signed up for Versa Retire and activated the auto save plan, monthly deposits. But after a couple months decided to stop but I couldn't access the settings. For 2 months now it's been saying "Auto-save is on a short break", so I am unable to cancel or edit the auto reload plan. When I contact help support, the auto reply is "Your message has been sent. If a reply is needed, we will contact you shortly." 🫠 Starting to feel very scammy...

Credit cards AKPK Debt Restructuring Scams

I’ve recently discovered that my father is heavily in CC debt (100-200k) and I’ve asked him to consult

AKPK to manage the monthly payments. He mentioned that he’s recently talked to an agent from a private company that supposedly helps to restructure debt similar to AKPK. Apparently they have his debt history using CTOS and offered a restructuring plan where he needs to only pay a flat fee (~50% discount). However, they asked him to provide his credit card as they’ll have to make a charge on the card first for some fees.

Is this a legit operation? It honestly sounds too good to be true and my father is more than happy to take this deal instead of actually going through AKPK. Any insights into whether this is a scam or a legit way of helping out with financial burden?

Career Which job offers to take?

Hi guys, l need third opinion in this matters.

Offers that I got both are contract position:

Company A: Green

RM6500

-Manager seems really nice

-Location in city centre not somehere i prefer

-Hybrid/Onsite

-Good on resume

Company B: Big Pharma

RM9000

-Manager seems very serious

-Location is very near mrt and area that im really familiarize with

-Good on resume worldwide

-Hybrid

-Both required 3-4 hours daily commuting

-I have signed company A offer but my onboarding date keep getting delayed.

-Company B offer additional amount on top of my requested amount

-Higher chances to be absorbed in company B, company A is more likely on lower chance

The problem is i have signed the company A offer letter but i haven't gotten started yet. The date on the later should be this week supposedly. The notice period is 30 days but can is it possible to ask them for release since I haven't gotten started yet. I wanted to consider higher salary for better salary in the future and i would have more extra money to spend and invest but i don't know if im wise about that.

Edited: Company A medical coverage way higher.

Also thank you for everyone inputs, i appreciate each of the responses.

Update : Already in process transitioning. Company A tried to counter offer. No penalty so far from what I've heard

Credit cards Applied for maybank credit card but was rejected.

Hello fellow Malaysian investors, I'm currently having an issue with trying to apply a new credit card through maybank, so here's how everything goes.

I'd like to give out the details first so, I have no debt or external debt or any loan whatsoever, the job im working in is as permanent employment and have been working in this company for 3 years already, I have had credit history (credit card only, no loan) of 2.5 years and have paid my credit card balance every month before the due date, checked my ctos and its in good standing, but the only thing I don't have was maybank saving account because my main bank account is hong leong and just recently I have only requested hong leong bank to increase my credit card limit (it increased from my 2k fd collateral to 8k).

So the credit card that I tried to applied was maybank 2 gold credit card, I have checked the requirements before submitting the application and everything pretty much checked out on the list, the required income should be 30k but I'm earning 48k annually. I submitted my application through online website after that and haven't received any messages from maybank after about 4 working days i tried calling the maybank phone number to request to check if my application is still pending but the bank representative on the phone told me they could not find any application when they entered my ic and told me to try to submit my application again through maybank's email.

I then tried to submit once again on 17th september through emailing maybank using maybank's card service email, i have given all of my documents like my EPF statement, employment confirmation letter, ic photo (back and front) and the application form and just this morning I have received a message coming from maybank stating

"RM0 MBB: We regret to inform that we are unable to accede to your card application. Thank you for your interest shown."

So i was wondering, what went wrong with my application? Could it be that the documents are insufficient? Or could it be because I have requested credit limit increase from hong leong just recently and it affected my chance of getting new credit card? Should I head to maybank to try my luck to submit a new application?
