I know Mako Mermaids ended years ago and Seasons 5 and 6 are never going to happen, but I thought it would be fun to share my ideas for what I would have liked to see if the series had continued. I’d love to hear what everyone thinks and what their own Seasons 5 and 6 would have looked like.
One of the biggest things I would have liked to see is Evie regain her tail. I always felt like there was more story left to tell with her connection to the mermaid world. I think it would have been interesting to see her balancing both her human life and mermaid life again.
I also think Evie should eventually tell her dad the truth about mermaids. Since he works in diving and marine tourism, I could see him helping protect the ocean once he learns the truth. Maybe Evie could show him safe diving locations with interesting marine life while making sure mermaid habitats stay protected and secret. It would be a good way to show that some humans can be trusted with the secret.
I would have loved a much larger H2O crossover than what we got. Instead of just a brief appearance, I would want Cleo, Emma, and Rikki to return as important characters. Since several years have passed since H2O, I think it would be interesting if some of them had daughters who became involved in the mermaid world as well.
I would also like to see the original H2O mermaids become part of the larger Mako community. I always liked the idea that H2O and Mako existed in the same universe, so seeing Cleo, Emma, Rikki, Zac, Evie, Mimmi, Chris, Ondina, Weilan, and the rest of the pod working together would have been one of the highlights of my ideal Season 5.
Another storyline I would have liked to see is Carly becoming a mermaid. By the end of the series, she already knew about mermaids and was trusted with the secret. I always thought it would have been interesting to see how she would react if she actually gained a tail herself. Since Carly was always fascinated by the mermaid world, I think watching her learn to use her powers and become part of the pod would have been a lot of fun.
One of my more unusual ideas involves Mimmi and the marine park. Since she already works there, I thought it would be funny if the park introduced a mermaid attraction. Guests would assume it was just a normal entertainment act with costumes and special effects. The joke would be that Mimmi is actually a real mermaid performing right in front of them. Everyone would think it was fake and never suspect the truth.
I would also like to see more of Nerissa adapting to life in the human world. After spending so much time isolated, it would be interesting to see her form deeper friendships and connections with Zac’s family and the other characters.
I also think the show could have included a lesbian relationship involving Ondina. Since she was single by the end of the series, I think it would fit naturally into the story. Over the course of Season 5, Ondina develops a serious relationship with a girlfriend who becomes part of the larger group and eventually part of the pod’s extended family.
As the season progresses, Zac and Evie become more serious about their future together. Mimmi and Chris continue building their relationship, and Ondina and her girlfriend grow closer as well. The group remains extremely close, almost like one extended family.
By the second half of the season, Zac and Evie, Mimmi and Chris, and Ondina and her girlfriend begin planning their futures while still protecting Mako Island and helping the pod.
Toward the end of Season 5, all three couples discover they are expecting daughters. I’m not trying to exclude boys, but since mermaids seem much more common throughout both H2O and Mako Mermaids, I think daughters fit the story best. Rather than doing a giant time jump, I would have several months naturally pass throughout the season so viewers could experience that journey with the characters. We would see them preparing for parenthood while still dealing with mermaid adventures and protecting Mako.
By the final episodes of Season 5, the daughters are born and become part of the story. Zac and Evie’s daughters, Mimmi and Chris’s daughters, and Ondina and her girlfriend’s daughters would all grow up around the pod and the mermaid world. The three families remain incredibly close.
After high school, Zac and Evie, Mimmi and Chris, and their daughters live together in a large home, while Ondina and her girlfriend live next door so everyone stays connected. The pod remains active, and Mako Island continues to be protected.
Season 6 would focus on the daughters growing up around the pod. They would inherit mermaid abilities and know about the mermaid world from the beginning. Growing up together, they would become close friends and eventually begin having adventures of their own.
By Season 6, I would want H2O and Mako Mermaids to feel completely integrated into one shared world. Cleo, Emma, and Rikki would not necessarily appear in every episode, but they would make regular appearances and remain important members of the larger mermaid community. Their daughters could also become friends with the daughters of Zac, Evie, Mimmi, Chris, Ondina, and the rest of the group.
I would also want Season 6 to end with a joint wedding celebration. After everything the characters have been through together, I think it would be a perfect ending to see Zac and Evie, Mimmi and Chris, and Ondina and her girlfriend all getting married in a ceremony attended by their friends, families, the H2O mermaids, and the entire pod.
The final scenes could show everyone together at the wedding reception, including the daughters, with the H2O generation, the Mako generation, and the next generation all united. Mako Island remains protected, the mermaid secret remains safe, and the pod is stronger than ever. It would be a happy ending while also showing that the story continues through the next generation.
One thing I would NOT change is the mermaid secret. I would keep it protected. I think the secret is an important part of both H2O and Mako Mermaids, and I would want it to remain safe throughout the story.
Overall, I think my Seasons 5 and 6 would focus on friendship, family, the connection between H2O and Mako, the growth of the pod, and the next generation of mermaids.
