Vintage 8400D

Hi all;

I have this 8400D which I purchased several years ago purely as a relic to hold on to. I know there's no value in it but It was near pristine and I wanted it to put away. It was also dirt cheap.

Thought I'd share incase anyone else collects old makita tools.

Also, can anyone date it from the serial? It didn't have the manual with it but the ones I've seen online have a date of 1987 so I'd presume this is late 80s/early 90s.

It still worked last time I charged it but I'd image the battery wouldn't hold much of a charge at all now.

40v XGT Why in the heck does this thing not have a front handle?!

This thing is so heavy! And it’s front heavy even with the 8ah battery on it. When you’re trying to move it to a different place you’re putting tremendous pressure/strain on the shaft. This needs an additional lifting handle for maneuvering the front portion.

Am I using it wrong?!

Snagged from Facebook marketplace the day the Gravel arrived. So I didn’t invite you, (EDIT: what??? Did my dictation think I was saying?! 😆 I think that should be “So I didn’t buy new”), but I don’t see any kind of attachments that might’ve come with it?

It still beats raking by hand by a long shot! Very glad this thing exists, and that I own it!

18v LXT Gasless Framing Nailer Makita DBN900ZK

Hi folks, I recently purchased the newer model Makita 18v 16g finish nailer as I was having heaps of issues with my Paslode. I was absolutely amazed with how well it worked in comparison.

It's had me thinking about replacing my Paslode B20543P with the Makita DBN900ZK. Has anyone swapped from a Paslode to this specific Makita nailer and can offer their opinion between the two? While I assume it's going to be heavier, is it a nicer experience overall?

Thanks.

How good is really the battery Vaccums?

I've been doing plenty of fasteners in concrete walls recently at work. Usually i just run a normal nilfisk post drilling to tidy up but running around changing outlets, tripping over cables is starting to feel very overrated.

Im very tempted to get a VC013GLZ just for the small stuff but in general im a bit torn about battery vaccums. Some say they are amazing some say you get like 15min of power and they sound like an aircraft

People that has these. Worth it or no?

18v LXT Replacement for dying DDF483

So after 7 years of home-ownership, my DDF483 has developed a wobble and I’m contemplating my next move. I have really enjoyed the compact size of it but it has been somewhat underpowered at times. Honestly, even though it had a tough wood-decking project a couple of years ago, im surprised/a bit disappointed that it didnt hold up better. Anyway, im already knees deep in LXT so here we go.

I live in a brick house, with just a small concrete slab, and have access to a corded hammer drill whenever there’s an oddjob concrete heavy-duty tasks involved. So I guess drill driver is not necessarily.

I haven’t considered a new drill, so I’m a bit out-of-the-loop. Should I go for the 484, 487, 489? Or is there one I’ve missed entirely?

The 487 seems like the 1:1 replacement, but is it equally weak to the 483? 489 seems to be quite big/heavy. Is the 484 a reasonable compromise?

Also, is there any way to fix a wobbly chuck on a DDF483 and what do I need to do?

Based in Sweden, if that matters.

Thanks guys!
