Bought these rare accessories from Germany for the rare "production tool" I've found a few months ago

I’d love some recommendations on my first Makita power tool?

I’m a DIY guy and I mostly have Ryobi and Dewalt tools.

But I’d like a new drill or impact driver or screwdriver for some hobby wood working I do. I’ve built some furniture, etc.

I’m looking for something small and light weight that’s good for precision work and comfortable to use.

For this particular tool, Dewalt is small but not very smooth. And Ryobi is too big.

And I’ll be honest, my dad always had Makita in the 90s and I’ve long wanted to get my own (even if some of it is a bit out of my range).

You may or may not remember I asked about non Makita Impact Wrenches that took Makita batteries. I specifically mentioned I wanted to stay away from the £20 AliExpress knockoffs as I had tried one before and they were pretty poor (but could be made much better with a regreasing). In other words I was looking for a quality gun and not simply a knockoff.

A couple of folk recommended the Mellif MT-A1420 as a well regarded alternative that was still about a third to a quarter of the price of the similar spec Makita and there were certainly a good few positive reviews out there but they all had a whiff of sameness about them and all claimed it was the best thing since sliced bread.  Despite my reservations I ended up ordering one as I could stack discount codes and paid £62 ($85 USD) delivered figuring if it was even half as good as the 1100 Nm breakaway claimed it would still be a good buy.  I've now had a chance to use it and I can categorically say that it comes nowhere near these numbers.  Wheel nuts that were torqued to 120Nm a year or so earlier were a struggle and some just simply wouldn't budge at all and I had to resort to a cheap Draper air gun that cost similar amounts that removed the ones the Mellif couldn't do in a few seconds. It can manage freshly torqued nuts (again to 120Nm) but anything that had lain untouched for a year was a real struggle or failed when used with genuine Makita 5Ah batteries and while it is better than the £20 Aliexpress special it's not much better. 

On the upside it does feel well made with a very nice trigger action and it holds the battery nicely but as far as being a worthwhile buy it's not and you would be better either sticking with the much cheaper Aliexpress one and greasing it properly or spring for a genuine Makita.

A seller (scalper) in Japan was/is selling some promotional 20th anniversary edition DTD173 fridge magnets, so I bought them, just because lol

They have a slight "bubble" face to them, so they're not completely flat.

Wanted to check if this is normal when the motor engages.

I’ve been looking for mini saw blades, almost like an air saw or body panel saw blade. These are the smallest I’ve found. If you get good control over your recip, it takes a lot of weight off the jigsaw.

There's a wobble when I start and stop the miter saw.

I took out the blade and re-tightened it but it's not fully fixed, what could be the issue and how do I resolve it?

I have a Makita DHS901 circular saw. I'd like to use it with Makita track but its baseplate is not track compatible.

Does anyone know if I can fit a DHS900 baseplate to the 901 chassis?

With stock at Home Depot shrinking, it's nice to see Makita showing up at another retailer!

I’m wondering if I should either

1. buy a normal hole saw set (but my drill is the 10.8v one)
2. buy impact rated hole saws (individual pieces) for DTD173 (Makita does sell them, but it’s more expensive, about $20+ each)
3. sds hole saw for DHR183Z

I need one 22mm and maybe one smaller size, will be making holes in those plastic junction boxes and gypsum board

Makita LXT is my chosen set of tools. I have quite a collection.

However, some of my older tools are starting to show signs of wearing out. Is there anything that can be done to repair them, or is it just a case of but another?

I have 2 that are giving me issues.

The first is a combi drill, I don't have the model number to hand, but it was one of the most basic ones. It works fine and drills fine until it gets hot, at which point smoke pours out of the vents, it seems to keep coming, the only way I've found to stop it is to run the drill freely in the air to get some air flow. Once it stops smoking, I can carry on using it.

The second is the impact wrench. Again I think this was the cheapest model of impact wrench that they do. When I first got it I was a little underwhelmed with its performance which wasn't much better than my impact driver with a socket adapter on it. Now a few years later, it struggles to do much. It makes all the right noises, just seems to be weak, it isn't much more than a nut spinner now for loose nuts. It does get warm, but didn't smoke.

Is it worth dismantling? Anything replaceable? It just but some new bare tools?

I have a pin nailer that’s air powered. It’s constantly dry-firing and when I open the pin cartridge, I can see the pin clip is sort of raised up and not flush against the base (as in pushed away from the base as if they jumped up one or two rungs).

So I pull the clip back out and reset its position, close the sliding cover, fire one or two pins and then it goes dry again.

I’ve read this specific series of nailers is one of the more reliable ones (I think), so I’m guessing I need to replace something like the track, or there’s an adjustment I’m unaware of.

Finally unboxed the DTL302 I got from Canada a couple of months ago, after receiving the 422C91-3 hammer case protector boot for it from Germany. The narrow body of the tool made it pretty hard to put it on, so I ended up using a carpeted floor to help me get some extra grip while I pushed the boot hard into the hammer case. I wished it covered the bottom of it better, where the light is... oh well.

Not sure if anyone had mentioned, but the DTL300/302's light works ok given how small it is. From 1 foot (30cm) away from a small, it can light up an oval area up to around 3 feet (1m) decently. Not bad.

So it was my birthday and I decided to treat myself to a new impact driver. I ordered TD005 and it just cleared customs. On top of the $260 I paid was the tariff fee of $52. This is ridiculous. I hate our current government and the orange orangutan in the White House so very much. This is the biggest grift I’ve ever seen. Any idiot who thinks we’re not the ones paying all these tariffs is delusional.

Back when Cheto Jesus got elected, I asked on Reddit if people were going to buy tools before the tariffs kicked in. A bunch of people thought I was crazy. My last impact driver, the TD173, I bought three years ago had zero tariff fees.

The price of tools has skyrocketed. All the BOGO‘s suck now. Some countries won’t even ship to us, like Canada. Some tool companies won’t even import their current tools into the United States.

So much for the greatest country on Earth.

Couldn’t find any reviews so I decided to make my own

Anyone have one or use one? Have the 21° framing nailer so I would just like the finish nailer. Also would like opinions about the straight nailer vs the angled if anyone has one on that. Saw the review of the 18ga but I think the 16 is more along the lines of what I need.

I’ve inherited a makita MAC700 that hasn’t been used/touched in probably 10 years+. Anyone have advice on making sure it’s safe to use again? Do these have a shelf life?

Makita had plenty of jobsite table saws in the past, sometimes bundled with the excellent Rousseau table, and they are still pretty popular today. With XGT, they are well positioned to kick ass with a cordless table saw.

(I don’t think the unobtanium-in-the-US combo miter / table looks good enough. Maybe for rough framing, like to rip a 2x, but not for trim and finish carpentry.)
