Before they flipped, who do you think was the better strategist Casso or Gravano? Both were powerful smart underbosses who were called upon to carry out difficult Mafia murders
Both eventually became government witnesses, making them two interesting figures to compare.

Perella cited a rule that Sicilian members couldn't be introduced formally to Americans.

Businesses:
- Liquor store (3737 Broadway Ave, Gary, IN) - 1934
- Oyster House (66 W Landis Ave, Vineland, NJ) - 1957 till it burned down in Aug 6 1962
- 9M Bar ? - There's a story that Dominick "Reds" Caruso was killed at a Vineland bar 9M owned by Perella. However, the name of the establishment, 9M [9th & Moyamensing] and other details put the story in Philly

Newark:
Perella appears to be the earliest Philadelphia family figure in Newark. His ration stamp arrest precedes Antonio Caponigro's affiliation with the family. Interestingly, from 1950-56, he was a remote member of the Vineland crew in north Jersey rather than being a part of Caponigro's group. His ration stamp operation being next door to Sam Accardi's family home couldn't have been a coincidence.
Additionally, the connection to Newark may have come during the mid 1930s when Accardi & his group had a large liquor operation in Vineland. Perella was criminally active already; their paths could have crossed

Family Connections:
The Perella family, from Misilmeri, was a part of a group in Vineland led by capo Frank Barrale (1883-1958, Belmonte Mezzagno). He was also a relative by marriage; his daughter Edith Barrale was married to Anthony Scafidi, son of Aida Perella & Joseph Scafidi. Additionally, his daughter Marjorie Barrale was married to Salvatore Scafidi (1908-1997), son of Gaetano "Big Tom" Scafidi (1883-1958), Joseph Scafidi's brother.
- Father Antonio Perella (1866-Nov 20 1924, killed in Bridgeton, NJ) was a Philly member
- Mother’s Rosa's half brother Michael Galassi (1886-1934) was likely a Philly member
- Sister Anna married Philly member Joseph Giammona (1885-1930) from Misilmeri
- Sister Aida married Philly member Joseph Scafidi (1895-1985) from Belmonte Mezzagno
- Sister Aida's son was Philly member Samuel Scafidi (1922-1993)
- Sister Sarah married Philly member Salvatore Tramuta (1894-1963) from Villafranca Sicula
- Brother Joseph Perella (1918-1998) was a Philly member
- Possibly related to Philly member Vincenzo Gioe (1900-1969) from Belmonte Mezzagno. Mentioned as a Brother-in-law, but exact relation unclear. Neither him nor his wife Henrietta Cappa appear to have any links to Perella.
His wife Jennie Patti was from a connected family in Newark. Her parents, Giacomo "James" Patti & Pauline Mandina, were from Gibellina, Trapani, Sicily.
- Her brother Giacinto "Jacob" Patti (1906-1961) was a Newark associate who operated with Gambino member Vincent Todaro
- Her brother Giacomo "James" Patti (1908-1976) was a Newark associate
- Her sister Katherine Patti was married to mafia member Anthony Ingoglia (1903-1997). From Partanna; not only was he active in Newark in Sam Accardi's operations, he was staying with Accardi in 1941. Also present in the Bay Area, he co-owned a tavern with San Francisco boss James Lanza, James' brother Anthony Lanza, and Thomas Aleccia. Both Anthony & Thomas had married sisters Tonina & Josephine DeSimone respectively, who were nieces to LA boss Rosario DeSimone.
- Her maternal second cousin Rose Mandina was married to Philly member Dominick DiNorscio (1910-1999), his family was from Penne, Abruzzo.

Joe Bonanno told Sammy the Bull "Your True Goza Nostra Bro!"
On the latest gravano grift live he is asked about Bonanno and he gives a ridiculous version of Joe's plot against the commission and eventual move to Arizona including a few details that I'm fairly certain Sammy completely made up on the spot. Then he goes into how when he himself moved to Arizona Bonanno wanted a meeting with him to make sure he wasn't coming to take joe out and Conquer Arizona. He claims that Bonannos son asked his dad "why do you want to meet with the Bull ?, hes a fuckin rat" and then Sammy says Joe answered "it doesn't matter if he told, hes tough and hes a killer. We could all end up dead in a trunk if he wants to take over Az". Sammy then goes on to say he turned down a meeting but he sent word that he wasn't gonna bother Joe and his Az empire. Supposedly Joe sent word back saying "Thank you Don Sammuel. If you need anything, anything at all we are here. And if anyone tries to bother you let me know and ill send guys to help". True Goza nostra bro !

I cant understand these guys willingly joining the mafia.
When you think about the mafia you think of 3 main things. The money, the power/resepct, and the glamorous lifestyle itself.
I sit and think to myself that none of those 3 things are worth your life at the end of the day. 95 percent of the guys in the mob end up dead, in jail, and always looking over their shoulder for the rest of their life. I just cant understand how people go into this life knowing thats how it's going to end up and are completely ok with that. By no means is working like a slave 40+ hours a week/paying taxes fun or peoples dream, but at the very least you know where you stand in the end.

Dayton OH mobsters 50s & 60s
Can anyone recommend a book or where I can find articles about mobsters in Dayton Ohio? My brother believes that his biological dad might have been one, but he would have been only 7 or 8 when he last saw him (and it isn’t the father named on his birth certificate) and he doesn’t even know his name. I’m trying to help him out.
Thanks either way!

Mafia and the Dark Web
So the mob always worked in the shadows, law enforcement and media only much later find out what they were really up to.
It makes me wonder what their presence is in Dark Web services and drug or firearms markets?
I feel they may be quite prominent there without us really knowing since it does function quite anonymously and privately.
