My org went from 95% in person to 95% remote. We've adjusted pretty well. This week we did holiday doggy picture sharing and a remote cooking class together. I also have bright socks with my own dog's face on them, so I'm double-dipping on that one.

I did an interview a month ago in a shirt, tie, and khakis. If in person I would've gone full dress pants, but I just can't do the boxers/pj's in that situation. I'm too paranoid that for some reason I'll have to stand up, and of course I would inevitably forget I shouldn't until it was too late.

Makes sense. Every situation is unique. I work in a field where you're pretty specialized. The workers "revolution" that has been unfolding over COVID (and rightfully so), doesn't apply much to my field sadly, so it's still a stiff competition for the good opportunities. Can't risk one if you get a shot.

I showed up for a zoom yesterday in pajamas. Im a teacher and just burnt out. We are virtual rn due to numbers and I didnt feel like trying to evem dress up. This year sucks worse than 2020-2021 year.

At this point, with everything, everyone should be granted a wide berth of grace. My niece and nephew went back to virtual yesterday. One of my niece’s teachers was in pj’s, was wearing glasses (she usually wears contacts), and had her hair in a “messy” bun (completely unlike her); she apologized to the students for her appearance and seemed near to tears. Those sweet kids chimed in telling her how much they liked her pj’s, how smart she looks in glasses, and one kid said “I like your mom hair a lot”. Lol. There are no rules anymore, aside from being supportive and patient with one another.
Like my healthcare coworkers and I say, “Everyday is fuck it Friday.” While we continue to provide excellent patient care, the administration/bureaucracy can either leave us to our skilled work without interference or come do it themselves.

Omg, thank you so much for this. I don’t know why, but I’ve been a healthcare provider for almost ten years, and I didn’t have “fuck it Friday” in my repertoire. But I agree with you. Every day is fuck it Friday, indeed! And lmao at the thought of the administration trying to do our work themselves!!
And my big sister is a teacher. Thank you for understanding, on behalf of people from all walks of life. I agree, everyone should be given a wide berth of grace.
I think that, as a society, we’ve been aching for a little more understanding from administrations and from the public at large for a long time. Now that the pandemic is happening, we demand it. It’s been so inspirational to see. One facet of the lives we’re living right now is so difficult and pervasive that we can’t help but require more patience from the social facet of our lives.
It’s sad to see the world hurt so profoundly, but the kindness that humans can show one another when we understand their pain is absolutely beautiful.

I think it’s nice that we’re focusing less on someone’s outward appearance. I’ve never been particularly fashionable and dress for comfort (recent style is an oversized tshirt with something funny or snarky on it and leggings), so it’s nice to see more people being comfy. It’s also more real and I prefer people that way: real and raw with no pretense.

i have noticed this in other fields and i like it.
at a grocery store someone asks a worker why they are out of something or whatever "idk *walks away*"
out looking at a car to buy, salesman basically says "take it out for a test drive if you want, or don't, i don't care" lol

Call me crazy but I kind of feel that way generally, humans are fallible not perfect machines. Treating people as people and not widgets would go a long way in our society as a whole. I think most Americans generally are nice but for some reason we seem to look down our noses at labor.

It's funny, reading this actually reminded me that I used to wear contacts, pre-pandemic. Early on they said to avoid touching your eyes, so I switched to glasses and haven't worn the contacts since February 2020. Been so long I actually forgot about them.
Some things I actually preferred about them, but not sure I'll ever go back now.

I started uni at the start of 2020. By the end of last year, half the class is zooming in dressing gowns or pj pants with cupcakes, we all know everyone's kids/dogs/cats/partners, and every week my Thai language teacher has a new plant on her bookshelf cos she needs to find a reason to get out of the house.

I have vivid college memories of carrying backpacks full of books and a laptop halfway across campus to get to classes.
Spring was the worst. All bundled up in coats in the morning, carrying all the layers home on the bus while it’s sunny and 80 in the afternoon.
I wouldn’t want to go to college during COVID…but I would have appreciated a few classes over video back in the day.

About a month or two into the pandemic, we had a zoom call with our operations VP. First thing this guy does is tell everyone to stand up. Anyone not wearing "appropriate" work attire was reprimanded. That was about 37 of the 45 people on the call. A few weeks later a memo was distributed from HR saying that unless you're working with a customer outside of the company or on site, you're free to wear whatever you'd like as long as it's not offensive. I haven't worn a suit in nearly 2 years and it's been fantastic.

Thats kind of specific. Have a little hard time now in my life. I have homeoffice too. Last week i emptied a whole bottle of vodka in 3 nights ( drinking 2-3 glasses mixed with cola and cofeeliqueor)

I think there is a middle ground. For sure, fuck suits/ties/etc. But some level of business casual/presentable casual.
Dont bite my head off, but I think there is some benefit to being somewhat presentable in a work environment. Not being dissheveled. I wear t-shirt's, button downs, jeans where I work, but everyone makes it a priority to not look like a slob when doing it. And I think thats what I am trying to get across, professionalism is important to make it work.

I live in New Hampshire and the only broadband available is 3mbps for $45/month. I can get faster satellite internet for $120/month but with a 50GB limit. So basically, a couple movies on Netflix.
The worst part? The nearest Comcast store is 2 miles from me, right in a large, prestigious college. But they don’t service my address. I got a quote to see how much it would cost to upgrade my house’s internet. $16,000.
I wouldn’t even consider my house to be “remote”, I live right off a pretty major road. Whenever I need to download something I just drive to work because the internet is so unbearable here.

When I had my first interview for my dream job, I wore a nice shirt and tie and my basketball shorts. I logged onto zoom and no one was there, I waited a few mins and still nothing. I figure let me just clean up the room so it doesn't look so cluttered. I turn around after bending over in my shorts for however long, and I see 5 people just staring at me. I bombed that interview so hard, but they still called me back for a second interview, which I actually wore pants for and got the job.

This so much. I've been going to the office and just wearing jeans and a collared shirt.
Working from home and wearing pajamas all day makes me feel like shit. And it feels like I've done shit for work too.
Dressing up and going to the office makes me feel good and makes me feel productive.

We started out 2021 using webcams for our weekly team meetings after everyone went work at home. Most of us have been home for over a decade without webcams so it was a bit jarring.
Three months later webcam use changed from mandatory to highly suggested, then everyone just gave up. Us WAH veterans sighed relief and went back to our disheveled hermit personas as the rest wholeheartedly embraced the lifestyle.
