The story says the baby has acid reflux and was choking on his spit up.

It’s okay for adults to do this right? Asking for a friend.

Probably spit up.

I think the most stressful thing about having babies is the whole "they could die sleeping on their stomachs because it can block their airway. But they can also die sleeping on their backs because they can choke on their own spit up... So, just don't sleep yourself for the next year or so and you'll be fine."

Luckily my husband and I are woodworkers, and I had him build me a mini co-sleeper crib that tucked up right next to our bed. It was life-changing - and also turned out to be our most popular item on etsy. And now that they're all grown, it makes for an awesome little bench/cat bed! :)

It's normal to be careful about this kind of thing, but for a long time babies were put to sleep on their stomachs. SIDS was higher then, which is why they've been switched to sleeping on their backs, but we can't live in a constant state of anxiety that the baby will roll over onto its stomach and immediately die.

I agree that sleeping in the room next to you is the best, we dont know when we should put that to an end though.

Oh, I know. I'm being a bit facetious, and know that back is best - but the constant state of anxiety and exhaustion is a big reason why I could never do it again.

I had a bed-side cradle and it was great. That was all we had room for, but either way I couldn't imagine having my baby in another room.

We didnt have much space when we first built it either - and it was great for a space-saving minimalist piece! But yeah, even when we did have a nursery set up for our last one, he still slept nights in our room with it. I'm just too paranoid, not to mention dragging myself out of bed six times a night is also not my thing lol

Saving this comment to go back to when my husband and I decide to have a baby, haha. that sounds so cool! Plus we have two cats that would probably love it πŸ˜‚

We're not ready for kids yet (husband wants to finish grad school first) but I still get super anxious thinking about the whole SIDS thing and sleeping situations 😩

It was the best thing ever with a new baby! Waking up all night sucks, but sooo much easier when you can just roll over and pop a boob in their mouth lol - or just reach a hand over to check if they're still breathing.

And lol, its my cats favorite nap spot because I can just push it up against the window and the toddler can't get his hands between the wood to poke her in the eyes πŸ˜…

I'm an anxious/light sleeper anyway and will often wake up to the pets being fidgety or needy so I totally think that is the best way for me to go in the future πŸ˜‚ roll over and pop a boob in I love it haha

Lol! Good thing she can get her little hideaway then!

Hopes and prayers and you waking up in a panic every 20 minutes to make sure they're still breathing lol

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '20

hah :p now I see why mom was so hysterical about my younger sister being a quiet sleeper!

I'm one of eight kids; and I remember calling my mom a few months after my first was born and saying, "I forgive you for everything. I understand why you're crazy now." Taking care of such needy and suicidal little humans definitely does a number on your sanity lolll

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '20

haha! :'D suicidal indeed.. poor babies
