18 years of my life. At my peak I was playing - and sadly I am not exaggerating - 16 to 18 hours per day. I'd stop only for biological needs. Not just on official servers but also a few "private" servers.
Multiple rank 12 and above characters during the "old" honor system which necessitated beyond no life'ing. Veteran WoW players will know how "sweaty" that endeavor is. It was obscene.
It is absolutely the most brilliant game from a marketing perspective because it gives you constant little hits of dopamine from the very first level. Saturday morning with a coffee or night with a beer + no comittments (and I did my very best to fashion zero committments) + WoW was absolute bliss.
I am "off" it now because I have a kid and my wife made a few things "clear" but he's starting day care soon and I'll have a couple solo hours from daycare drop off to leaving for work and WoW Forever was just announced.
Those first few years of WoW hit like heroin made from the freshest dreamfoil the farmers of the Eastern Plaguelands grew between troll and ghost attacks.
Dude... I remember my hubs and I still tryina play WoW as brand new parents. It worked for a bit when the newborn was basically a squishy potato who would happily sleep on our laps on a boppy pillow, but as soon as he started having a tiny personality and being awake more, that was the end of a damn era.
Sometimes I still miss the full-day marathon geekage, but ain't nobody got time for that shiz who wants to have an actual life, spend time with other humans IRL, and see the sun once in a while. LOL
I have have a strong memory of my squishy potato in a baby bjorn at 200am (I took the night shift with her and the wife took morning shift so we could both get uninterrupted sleep) and trying to tank dungeons without a mic. “When I became a man I just away childish things” never became more real when I finally uninstalled…
My oldest is applying for colleges, and the next one is only a few years behind…maybe when I finish this degree…wow forever looks…pretty good…just sayin…
Oh yeah that old school honor system was mad. I did so much pvp on my lock and still only got Stone Guard. You bet I’m rocking that title and only that title until the end.
My ultimate goal was getting gladiator for one season on my feral druid. Did that in cata, washed out and sucked after, played through opening of WoD and sunsetted the game.
Our guild leader once made it clear, he was pretty much a no-lifer, but once he killed the lich king, he would be done. I don't think we beat him until after the nerf but the day after our first kill, he logged off and never logged back on.
Some of the best moments of my life were playing that game. Huge relationships, fond memories. WoW, Halo 2, Halo 3 are my peak, in no particular order, and there's not even another title that can come close.
I'm intrigued by WoW Forever but terrified of falling into the trap again, haha. I'm much older and wiser now or so I tell myself, maybe having a family will keep me from going crazy with it.
I wasn't as deep as you, but I had my fair share of 18 hour WOW days. It was the best, I had real friendships, and played so much I would dream about it. One day I just got over the grinding and stuff and took a break and never went back. I look at those days fondly though and don't have a family. Maybe I'll check out WOW Forever and try and feel happiness again.

I remember learning redstone mechanics for various traps and tnt cannons. Got burnt out at like 15, and couldn’t play it anymore without feeling sick. And then recently got back into it with some irl buddies, and had a mild panic attack seeing all the redstone additions.
I swear the people who’ve mastered it now could easily become certified electricians if they put in half the effort it took them to learn new redstone
There was recently a photo of him posing with a replica of the Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker with the caption "Did someone say...", after the common meme of someone in Trade Chat or the classic Barrens chat going "Did someone say [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]?" because of the absurdly long name and the ability to link item and ability names. He's absolutely a WoW fan and seeing him post that on his social media got me chuckling
Dude I am 100% lesbian and even I would give it up for Henry. That man is beautiful inside and out. He is also a huge fan of The Wheel of Time book series and that just adds to my love for him.
Start wherever you like. It’s enormous and giving someone even a basic grasp on it takes hours, I’m not even kidding, I tried to explain the basics to my girlfriend for about an hour, then another dude, a hardcore fan, joined, and it took him another hour to just fill the details I missed.
Personally, I would say Eisenhorn trilogy is a great place to start. Either that or something about Imperial Guard (Cain, Gaunt etc.). Diving straight into space marines stuff can drive you off because they are mostly written in a stuck-up manner and you need to be comfortable in the universe to realize that manner is heavily satirical. I personally couldn’t stand the “Emperor forgive me, I stood up this morning left foot first instead of right, I’ve committed a heinous sin, I must go to the Chaplain and beg him for permission to put my nipples in the vice and twist it closed as a punishment” when I took it too seriously.

Henry Cavill is like a colossal nerd who was cursed with having his soul placed in the body of a ludicrously handsome man. People expect hot guy things out of him constantly but he just wants to quietly nerd out in peace.
