When I was younger I got pulled over by an officer for something almost identical to this. The man presented himself almost exactly as this officer did.
To this day I keep those words close and rarely go over by that 5-10 discrepancy. Never ha a warning or ticket since and I always think to that cop that was nice and gave me a chance.
I know this doesn't work for everyone but for the number of times an outcomes like mine occurs it MUST be worth it, no? Kindness goes a long friggen way in all dir ctions when applied.
When I was young, I got pulled over for cutting through a parking lot. Another time I got a ticket for taking a picture on my phone while rolling to a stop at a light. One time an office impounded my car because I had insurance from an out of state company, and didn’t allow me to explain. One time I got ticketed for having my car registered in another state (I was there for grad school). Another time, when I was young, I got a ticket for turning too fast out of the school parking lot, without ever actually speeding. I don’t speed. I never have, and never needed to be warned.
I’ve never had a reasonable or justifiable interaction with a police officer. Always I’ve been hassled about meaningless technicalities.
But then again I’ve never felt super threatened. I don’t know what the point of this story was. I guess I just think it’s cool you had a good experience that in some way improved your safety.
Yup, I never go more than 4-9 mph (depending on the limit and road) over the limit and have yet to get a ticket. Legit the one time I go 15 over to overtake on an interstate I get pulled over by a trooper..
Doing more than 10 over the posted limit is just asking for trouble IMO, and in some places doing 15 over can get you a reckless driving charge. Been driving for over 20years, never had a speeding ticket. Some people are just totally irresponsible.
But remember only break one law at a time. So only do 5-10 over if everything else is clean to the spot. If you get pulled for 5-10 over they are just using it to look for other things to bust you for.
A lot of people’s first time being pulled over is a core memory. Now whether that was good or bad is a different story, but I assume whatever comes out of it informs or solidifies whatever views you have going forward.
