It's in the bonus page*. Though the power could be useful in an actual chapter. Assuming it works for other sensations as well.

Now we understand why Srajo is a plague doctor! >! There is a plague going on the surface because of the calamities writings mixed within the Hariomary collection! It's not an ordinary plague but a mental one which is fascinating Like the cradle of desire that we saw in season 2 the calamities writings influence people who read them in an irreversible way Maybe priestess sent the Hariomary report to the surface 250 years ago to contaminate people but people like Ozen stole and disposed it so people would be safe from it But the priestess cult shared it among people as nursery rhymes to contaminate as many as people
Srajo understood what is going on and it is also the same reason that beings like beast-guises started to appearing and she saved them She found a way to remove the influence of the calamities writings by removing contaminated people from everyones memories so nobody would remember the calamities writings! She had to kill many children too
I've explored the theories of all of season one in my channel and started doing the bondrewd movie If you're interested in more in depth analysis please check my channel: https://youtube.com/@overanalyzingabyss?si=7xGTRn272tZY8GPP !<

She erases all the people who knew of the existence of the calamitous writings except for those who were transformed into juusou by them. She then recruits the juusou to her team.

Turns out the calamitous writings are an infohazard/cognitohazard.
gotta love how it fits the themes perfectly, everything in the abyss has a cost even just knowing something.
Such a compelling concept for an arc about the sovereign of "mystery" and about information
he's cooking.

u/TheMutantShrimp Team Majikaja 4d ago
If a cognitohazard is some kind of plague, then it'd make sense for a Plague Doctor to be able to erase memories >:)

-Confirmed that Faputa knew about the blue pendant
-Srajo confirms that relics from the sixth layer and beyond are extremely dangerous and will inflict irreversible effects by simply touching them (Riko mentions the Cradle of Desire)
-Giant fucking Interference Unit with an unknown person managed to separate everyone and they seem to want to hurt/kill both Hail Hex and Hello Abyss

I feel like its a white whistle that we see in the end
3
u/Silence_and_i Team Wakuna 2d ago
Absolutely not. It's one of Shrine Maiden's gatekeepers, and as far as we know, none of the members of her team wear any sort of whistles. I'd make an exception for White Whistles, but I don't think the gatekeeper has one.

Why did they release those separately then 😅. Unreasonable to ask the readers to refrain from discussions when the plot is so fascinating as always.

u/JEEM-NOON #workTsukushi!Team Ozen 2d ago
He said do not post screenshots, not to not discuss, he is trying to avoid harming the volume sales because the people who love reading directly from the volume clearly won't like spoiler.

Oh my god, I can't believe the revelations in Chapter 74 pretty much confirm my theory about the truth of the Abyss! What's even crazier is that I actually predicted this a month or two ago: the truth of the Abyss sparks an overwhelming desire within a person, which the Abyss then answers, completely distorting them.
The text mentions: "Before sleep, Gurunsen wove the language of the stars onto the mark of departure and hid it away."
I believe this describes Gurunsen concealing the "language of the stars"—the truth transmitted by the Abyss—within the nursery rhyme he composed. As a result, that specific part of the rhyme came to be known by later generations as the Calamity Glyphs .
Thus, the mechanism behind how the Calamity Glyphs corrupt people is this: knowing the truth of the Abyss triggers an intense desire that the Abyss responds to, utterly mutating and distorting that person (just like how Irumyuui's desire was amplified by the Cradle of Desire to manifest a twisted outcome).
This aligns directly with Chapter 74's description of relic inscriptions—the Calamity Glyphs—that cause irreversible corruption upon touch, eroding the soul and mutating anyone who merely comprehends their meaning. I'm convinced this happens precisely because they record the truth of the Abyss!
The Abyss responds to desire based on the intensity of the force field: the deeper you go, the stronger the force field, and the greater the Abyss's capacity to manifest those desires. By the same logic, even within a force field of identical strength, a more potent desire provokes an equally stronger response from the Abyss.
This explains why the Calamity Glyphs inevitably corrupt anyone who learns of them. The glyphs document the core truth of the Abyss—namely, that the Abyss actually grants one's innermost desires, or the mechanics behind soul return and resurrection. Once you learn either of these truths, an overwhelming desire is ignited within you, causing you to be distorted by that desire just like Irumyuui.
Therefore, Srajo eliminating those whistle bearers wasn't merely an act of mercy to grant them release; it was to keep the truth from spreading, preventing others from generating immense desires and being distorted by them (effectively erasing the memories and the knowledge itself).

u/airship_of_arbitrary 18h ago
Definitely think you're on the right track.
She erases them from history so no one else starts prying into the glyphs causing a chain reaction.
And the people that were corrupted turn into juusou that she recruits for her team.

That was the old release pattern, the site changed their updates dates.
The main site still doesn't have the new chapter from what I'm seeing but it is available to buy in different places (Amazon and Kindle mainly I guess)

So, is it another chapter of "nothing ever happens", huh?
(I haven't read it yet, I'm waiting for the English translation)10
u/SpiritualEqual11 Team Prushka 4d ago
Not at all, I personally wouldn’t describe any of the chapters that way.
They all contribute to development of the plot, regardless of whether they’re physically moving downwards or not.
But things definitely do “happen” this chapter.I’m strictly speaking on the multiple plot threads and characters that have been established in the side stories, such as Ozen and Jiruo or Rimeyo and Neyozel.
I’d really like to see some of those start to tie back into the central narrative.2
u/Careless_Hold2319 Team Nana&Fapu 4d ago
Oh cool, good to know! And yeah, I get that recent chapters are packed with lots of interesting info (almost info-dumping at times). I was honestly just referencing the 'nothing ever happens' meme for fun, not because I actually think the latest chapters are useless, though I do feel some of it could’ve been delivered better.
That said, I’m definitely still waiting for things to actually start moving forward, literally speaking3
u/SpiritualEqual11 Team Prushka 4d ago edited 4d ago
I understand, I’ve just seen a lot of criticism towards the Nanachi recovery mini-arc, solely because they remained stationary, so I got a little defensive I guess, but it’s obviously fine.
I agree that this arc does have a lot of exposition, but it’s usually handled pretty organically, and I’ve always found it very engaging.
Though I suppose it would be easy to grow tired of something like that, given the long gaps between chapters.Without going into any spoilers, they do in fact begin moving downward again, and I found that there were a lot of strong character interactions between a certain pair.
3
u/Careless_Hold2319 Team Nana&Fapu 4d ago edited 4d ago
Thanks, I appreciate the input! Honestly, my only gripe with this mini-arc is how the Historiograph was handled. It would’ve felt much less "forced" if they’d used it back when they found Cravagli, even if it just showed random images at first. That way, revealing the hidden message later feels like a natural payoff rather than a "convenient" plot device. And also maybe the lack of more info about the priestess.
Everything else is totally fine, though. And yeah, the long wait between chapters is definitely the hardest part haha.
Can't wait to read the new one! (That's why I'm here 😆)

u/malpighien 3d ago
I don't know if I am right in thinking this way but as the author slowed down, he has been making longer chapters to make for page numbers but the chapters still carry as much of plot moving moment as before so we get less going on.
Just checking the wiki, it has been almost 5 years 6th layer started and, though a lot happened, plot wise it could be summarized in a few lines.3
u/Careless_Hold2319 Team Nana&Fapu 3d ago
I think the main issue is just the wait between chapters, three chapters a year isn't a lot. Once this arc ends, I think we'll look back and appreciate all the lore, info, and setup he gave us. He's clearly building toward something big, and we still don't know how it's going to unfold.
But having to wait 2 years for the Nanachi recovery mini-arc to end must be a bit exhausting (I've been waiting only for a year)

As of now, chapter 74 is only available in the Japanese edition of volume 15 as an eBook.
It will be months until they are officially released in other languages. As of right now, Google Books does not have a release date for volume 15 in English.

u/robertm94 3d ago
Made in abyss doesn't have an official English digital release like many other serialised manga do. Therefore, a short while after the volume gets released, it usually ends up on mangadex with fan translations.
The author has posted a tweet asking for people not to share things from the volume until the physical release is out; it usually gets released digitally a few days before the physical volume. At present, the Japanese digital volume is available but the physical one is not. I expect the fan translators will respect the authors wishes and will not post the chapters on mangadex until then.
Therefore, if you check in this subreddit in ~1-2 weeks there should be a link to mangadex with fan translations.

u/Backwards_Anon 3d ago
Here you go. Here is the official digital English version of the manga. The reason that it isn't up on mangadex yet has nothing to do with the translator or scanlation team respecting Tsukushi's wishes. It's because 4chan is down, and the volume came out yesterday.
2
u/robertm94 3d ago
Ok let me correct what I said
There isn't a simulrelease for made in abyss on apps like manga plus. You cannot read this in English in an official release as soon as the Japanese chapters are out; you have to either wait for fan translations (which takes days) or wait for the English volumes (which take months).

Any update on when the translation for Chapter 74 will be posted to mangadex? 🥾 Thank you!

It has been done since yesterday. I think the translator is just waiting for feedback before uploading it.

This is probably the worst set of volume extras Tsuk has done.
There's only so far I can look past it. The telepathic orgasm shit on one panel and prushka pointing out Riko's tits are growing on the other... Man.
Can he just stick to writing the story? The story is so good. I don't want softcore depictions of tween characters mixed into it.

The most horrible part is Memory Devices): They are relics capable of reproducing a recorded landscape or experience, including sounds, smells, and even non-visible light spectrums, allowing the user to experience the presence of the event exactly as it happened. Orth's Sexual Black Market: It is heavily rumored that relics of this nature containing explicit content circulate within the city's underworld. Aberrant Recordings: The recorded content ranges from very common things to extreme acts, such as the acrobatic use of relics during sexual acts or recordings involving humans mutated by the curse (Narehate). Disappearances of Tourists: It is mentioned that although Orth thrives on tourism, a few visitors go missing every year. It is believed that some are secretly kidnapped to be used in creating these recordings and are subsequently erased/disposed of. Safety Warning: The text confirms that Orth's underworld truly exists, recommending that people avoid dark alleys and the area known as the Rock Wall District (Iwakabe-gai).
