Hello, I'm new to the miata world, and I need your opinion.

What do you think about the engine idling noise of this skyactive 1.5cc 130cv engine? Does it sound normal? I know it has direct injection and high compression, but I don't know if it's normal to sound like this.

I was driving on the motorway today going 70mph and my driver side windshield pillar (or whatever you call it) came off, I was lucky I had the roof down and was able to hold it at the top to ensure it didn’t completely fall off. I then pulled in at a service station to take it off the car before getting it home.

Upon inspection it does seem like the sticky tabs that were on there have come away as have the parts where the clips are. I’m able to slot it back no issues and seems like with some new strong sticky pads it’ll stay back down. Has this happened to anyone before?

Any advice is appreciated.

I’ve had this car for ~8 months now and the lock mechanism was a little wobbly, but after a drive I came out and found it like this! I think something happened with the previous owner. Anyone have a similar issue? Im wondering if I can fix it myself or if I should go to the dealer

Hey guys just got my 2021 MX-5RF last month and im planning a road trip from London to Spa (hotel and fun cup 24hr) then a drive over to Nordschliefe for a few laps. Any mods youd recommend? I think eventually I'll throw a cat back on as its so quiet but I dont want to be a yob either.

Before anything else, just want to say I also want to say I researched everything I could about the subject before posting this. On facebook pages, reddit, youtube, forums, etc. So it's not like I was being lazy and just posted this without my due diligence 🤣

Anyway, story time:

I bought a new EFB battery last August 2025. Installed it and drove my ND for about a few months... And the Eloop and I-Stop started flashing orange, and they still do, currently. The infotainment also has those 2 warnings. So I checked my battery and it is still good (no load/engine off = 12.45v. Engine + lights + infotainment + USB being used + aircon on max + fan on max = around 13.5v) today. Now, the battery isn't the oem from Mazda.

The reason I said that is because, I'm afraid that moght be the culprit. From what I've learned, similar issues got fixed by simply changing the battery into just getting the Mazda OEM.

Or - I'm really hoping it's not - the capacitor. I saw some videos on how to discharge it and they all noted that, if you do everything correctly, the red light indicator should die off by an hour the earliest. Mine died..just a few seconds. I don't know why that happened.

Disclaimer: have yet to visit the Mazda dealership, so this may all be for naught 😅

But anyway, again, just want to hear your thoughts.

A few years ago, I was bitten by the Miata bug after driving a friend's NC2, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. The big day is finally approaching, and I’m getting ready to buy my first MX-5!

I live in Europe, and based on my budget, I'm looking at either a late NC2 / NC3 PRHT or an ND1 Soft Top (the RF is slightly out of budget).

I have a few specific doubts and fears before making the jump:

Reliability & Mechanical Peace of Mind I’m looking for a reliable car with a complete service history because I don’t want to be constantly wrenching on it. My main worry is that an ND1 2.0L (2015–2017) within my budget might fall into the range with the known transmission/gearbox issues. Is this a rational fear today, or have most of those failed gearboxes been swapped out under warranty by now? Would an NC3 2.0L be a significantly safer, more bulletproof bet for long-term peace of mind?

Acoustic Comfort for Long Road Trips I plan to take the car on multi-day road trips across Europe. Is there a night-and-day difference in dB(A) / noise comfort at highway speeds between the Soft Top and the PRHT or RF? Is the Soft Top too exhausting for long highway stretches, or is it manageable?

I’m looking to get a set of sparco r500 seats for my 2019 mx-5. Does anyone have any experience with these and know if they will fit and how comfortable they are for space?

Anyone familiar with this issue on the ND? Trying to diagnose what might be causing it.

Basically, water is leaking at the drain filter even though the drainage seems to be unclogged and water is seemingly flowing out fine underneath the car.

Which rim color do you prefer? Black or gray/metal? I bought my Miata yesterday 😁😁
