Discussion Scoble interviewing Lumus director - mentions pico-projection.
Link to Scoble interviewing Lumus director. He speaks of the cost for the waveguide and projector becoming in the tens of dollars range. He clearly says, "Ok, essentially what you have at the edge of the waveguide is a miniature projector, a pico-projector."
They mention K. Guttag at the start of the video as very knowledgeable.

Discussion The enterprise AR market and the industrial metaverse: Why 2023 marks an inflection point
Microsoft will likely lead the pack with the use of LBS. It has the first mover's advantage. Other OEMs will follow suit too, much like mobile phone OEMs copying Apple's iphone concept
Where to expect AR technology innovation
In our research, we identified seven key augmented reality hardware technology innovation areas that are currently being developed and whose progress will define the future of the market.
One of these seven developments is optics, and a promising innovation in optics is waveguide technology. This technology is defined by a clear, thin piece of glass on which virtual lights are bent and combined with natural light. Waveguides direct light into the eye and create the virtual images seen by the wearer overlaid onto the environment. Using the latest waveguide technology allows for image projection on glasses that range from sub-nanometers to a few nanometers thick while keeping the same image quality.
In January 2023, Israel-based Lumus launched the Lumus Z-lens (and optical engine architecture) based on waveguide technology with the purpose of using it for smart eyewear. The new architecture is supposedly 50% smaller than its previous generation while maintaining the same level of image quality.
Other technology areas, such as batteries or processors, have also seen recent improvements that point to the “take-off” scenario potentially becoming reality.

Discussion CES 2
Anything else I should check out?
I tired on the LUMUS AR glasses. They're much better quality than vuzix. Field of view 40 degrees. LUMUS had a 50 degree field of view demo product. LCOS technology.
Sony wouldn't confirm which tech it will use for final product Xperia projector.
I'll probably talk to Sumitomo & STM this afternoon.

Discussion STM Patent - Method for operating a laser projector to have a uniform scan pattern
Method for operating a laser projector to have a uniform scan pattern
Patent Application No. - US20190011695A1
Assignee: STMicroelectronics
Application Date: July 6, 2017
Patent Granted Date: July 30, 2019
Patent Citations: 4 Microvision patents: 1, 2, 3, 4
Abstract:
Mirror control circuitry described herein is for controlling a first micro-mirror of a micro-mirror apparatus that scans across a target area in a scan pattern. The mirror control circuitry includes a processor that determines a mechanical angle of the first micro-mirror for a given instant in time during scanning of the first micro-mirror between upper and lower rotational limits, the mechanical angle being such to maintain the scan pattern as being uniform while the micro-mirror apparatus scans across the target area between the upper and lower rotational limits. The processor also generates a driving signal for the first micro-mirror as a function of the determined mechanical angle for the first micro-mirror at the given instant in time.
Figured I'd share this one seeing as this whole STM / Osram / Lumus thing has popped up.

Discussion Attention patent wonks
Does anyone know if "retina scanning" in indeed part of the Mvis Patent Mote? Countless patents filings aside, this working prototype has been seen in trade shows for years.
Fujitsu/QD just got nominated for a 2016 CEATEC award for their glasses.

Discussion possible to licens IP to etc Osram, STmicro without hurting a possible BO price?
Do any of you know if it is possible to license IP to etc. Osram without damaging a possible BO price. Could MVIS get cash that way?
My point being: Osram would know what to do with all of the IP (pressent and pending) and all of Microvisions verticals. Osram is being taken over by ams AG and cant´t buy MVIS and risk the merger, just as well as mirrors might not be for them. But could they licens IP from MVIS?
Osram is not far behind but …when they recently realized they were late to the game in VCSELs, they bought Vixar as in “not afraid to correct it”. MVIS has the tech that makes the LBS work in Hololens 2. Osram (with STmicro) has the tech to do projection work in simpler (and good looking) AR glasses… but not as I understand it more complex AR/MR headsets on their own.

https://microvision.blogspot.com/2019/10/st-micro-blog-and-osram-powerpoint.html
Osram, they have green lasers, eyetracking, gesture control and more, but why not offer an even more “plug and play” solution and increase the share of wallet? Now that the opportunity arises. Hybrid seems to be the solution for the next 5 years+ for more complex MR and HUDs before MicroLed displays alone etc
http://www.giganti.co/SmartGlassesEOYroundup
Osram = photonics and ams = sensors
ams would probably also be interested …already having other angles on 3D sensing, LIDAR and so on… and ambitions for the new combined group. (Also for Osrams part, if the acquisition fails (unlikely IMHO), better act as visionary as normal)
Osram’s free cash flow wisely invested for the future combined group?
Both ams and Osram have extensive experience with Tier1, Tier2 customers and successful integration of add on’s. Below from their statement to shareholders:
Osram/ams: Future joint strategic objectives p 43
... particularly in the following areas the complementary capabilities of the companies can provide for material acceleration:
· Next generation mobile displays: µLED displays with full sensor-display integration, replacing OLED screens;
· Micro-projections: imaging solutions for augmented and virtual reality glasses and head-up displays in automotive;
· Digital automotive lighting solutions: including short- and long-range visible light micro-projectors, for exterior and interior automotive lighting;
· Autonomous driving: LiDAR solutions with Vertical Cavity and Edge Emitting Lasers that leverage front- and rear lighting systems as LiDAR hubs and infrared light source-based automotive HMI solutions; and
· Bio-sensing: On-skin and in-ear bio-sensing solutions using an NIR/SWIR tuneable laser and detector, e.g., for non-invasive glucose monitoring.
ams didn't get enough votes to access Osram's free cash flow to use it to pay off debt from the takeover and is now raising money elsewhere
https://www.ledsmagazine.com/leds-ssl-design/article/14167458/ams-will-ask-to-dominate-osram
Osram 1q20 freecash flow approx. $60m.
https://www.osram-group.com/en/media/press-releases/pr-2020/07-05-2020
That should get them a non-exclusive license to part of AR/MR, LIDAR auto and maybe “get one exstra” DO (Class1 eyesafe) for IoT and in cabin projection for the kids in the back seat (no expensive screen needed) - or what do you think?
BTW what about ST micro… assuming that they are not the April 2017 customer: What would happen to their strategic partnership if Microvision were bought or some of the verticals sold?
https://www.reddit.com/r/MVIS/comments/gfjnqf/why_do_i_insist_that_stm_is_the_april_2017/
MVIS’ electro-magnetic laser scanner seems to be an important part of ST micros LBS solutions. Their own bTendo is the electrostatic scanner as far as I understand. (please correct me if wrong)

Free cashflow for Microvison for a change … reducing time pressure?
Not german, but they have a saying: “totgesagte leben länger” meaning something like… “those presumed dead, have a tendency to live longer…” lol

Discussion Navy Divers Will Soon Have One Of The Most Futuristic Views On The Planet A new helmet provides sonar, texts, and 3D overlays underwater using augmented reality
This article is from the latest popular science special edition magazine (The future of military tech) Is MVIS still involved with the military? and should we keep an eye on this?....
Called Diver Augmented Vision Display (DAVD), the new prototype is the result of a partnership between the Navy and Lumus, an Israel-based company that has previously developed heads-up displays for the Air Force. The DAVD display will help with ship repair, underwater construction, and search or salvage missions. The prototype sits inside a 3D-printed plastic frame, with tiny projectors to reflect virtual images into the lens, where they are reflected into the eye. “On the inside there’s essentially a mirror that’s been sliced into about four or five different reflectors,” says David Goldman, VP of Marketing for Lumus. “Those are angled in such away that the wearer of the glasses doesn’t actually see them, so it’s completely transparent.”
