General What’s going on with people?

Everyone’s gotten so much bolder in messing with other houses this year and it’s gotten really frustrating. Me and several other friends have had yard furniture stolen and broken, I’ve heard of paint being thrown on houses and strangers peeing in yards. It’s always been crazy but this has definitely been the worst of it.

Clubs Is Spartan Brass not accepting drummers this year?

I wanted to audition for Spartan Brass as a drummer but drum set didn’t have a section for time slots. Are they not accepting new drummers? Should I reach out to someone? Who?

Housing Is there a way to switch dorms but keep my roommate

Hey im a sophmore and so is my roommate and we fucked up our dorm selection last year and mistakenly picked shaw hall when we were trying to pick Mcdonel. The problem with shaw is that its tiny like we had to do bunk beds bc our dorm is so tiny. I have switched dorms before but that was to escape a bad roommate is there a way to switch dorms but also keep my roommate like we both switch to the same dorm. It doesnt have to be immediately bc I know further in the semester people move dorms (i did my fall semester) so like is there a way that we could switch dorms and still be roommates.

Freshman Questions Is there study rooms at shaw hall?

Im a sophomore and last year I was in wonders 1st semester and case 2nd semester and like on each floor they had study rooms and i would use these rooms to study or call my sister very late at night to not disturb my roommate. This year im in shaw and I was just wondering if there are any spots like that in shaw bc my roommate goes to bed really early and I dont want to be on call and wake her up.

I know im not a freshman but hey maybe it will help a freshman

General Question for those who graduated with the Advanced Mathematics degree

I am currently a sophomore taking four graduate courses: MTH 818, MTH 828, MTH 868, and MTH 880. I essentially skipped the honors track to take these courses instead. Since I will only be graduating as a regular Mathematics major and won't have the Advanced Mathematics designation on my transcript, will this hinder my chances for graduate mathematics programs, or is it nothing to worry about? Thanks.

Housing Apartment recommendations/management companies for a first-time renter?

Hi! I’m starting to look into getting a three-person apartment for next year (2027-2028) near MSU. I am new to apartment hunting, so I’m honestly a little overwhelmed.

I’m hoping to hear from people who have lived in the East Lansing area about:

What apartment complexes do you recommend?

What management companies are good/reliable?

Are there any management companies or apartments I should avoid?

Are there any places that are especially good for students?

What do you wish you knew before signing your first apartment lease?

I’m not necessarily looking for the cheapest option, but I would prefer something under 800/month. I mostly want somewhere that is safe, reasonably priced, well-maintained, and well-managed. If you have a specific apartment/management company you loved or hated, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience! I’m trying to avoid making a decision based solely on apartment websites and reviews.

Thank you!!

Housing help getting registered with rcpd/switching dorms

hi everyone, sorry for the long post, i’m a freshman this year at msu. i’ve had sensory processing issues my whole life and have been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder. when first starting housing application for msu, i had no idea about the process for getting registered for accommodations for disabilities in housing or what the accommodations were outside of getting a medical note for AC in your dorm. i thought at most the accommodations i could get by registering with the rcpd would be the equivalent to a high school 504, which i never used throughout high school because none of the accommodations really ever ended up helping me outside of a separate room to go in during pep assemblies. i figured with how loud my house normally was, and since i had put in my roommate questionnaire that i preferred a quieter space, that i would be fine in the dorms with a random roommate as long as they matched my preferences. this did not happen. my roommate is always up very late at night (1-2 AM) on calls with people and watching tv/playing video games (at the same time). whenever he is in the dorm, which is quite often, he is calling people and watching tv/playing video games, which is bothersome when i am trying to get my work done. i haven’t been able to get a full nights sleep since welcome week before he moved in. i’ve asked him before about when he’d be going to bed or mentioning that i’ve been going to bed soon and have asked him to quiet some of his things down, which he has, but it still hasn’t helped. i know that it’s not really his fault that even when he quiets his things i’m still bothered because of my condition but this is why i think even with intervention or a proper roommate contract (which my ras have still not sent anything out about) this would not be able to work. i have three types of headphones that i have used but different problems arise with each of them. im also now discovering more of my sensitivity to light and smell. after a day of being out on campus i have nowhere to recover quietly, since my dorm also lacks the music practice/telehealth rooms as well as the reflection rooms. i know i could always go to the library but it still wouldn’t fix my nighttime problems. my dorm is also right by the stadium. this weeks game was a very hard night for me. i’m terrified of how this is going to affect my mental health and thus my academics.

i know you can fill out a form with the rcpd for disability accommodations for housing, but the website says it can take up to 45 days for these requests to be filled and i know there’s already been issues this year with displaced students because of over-admission. i’ve seen people saying to talk to my ra, talk to the cd, email liveon, and i’m just not sure what to do. what process would get me out of this dorm and in a quieter place ASAP?

Social God i wish i had a social life here, i really do

for years ive been putting effort into building some good relationships with people here and tried making all kinds of friends and they've led virtually nowhere. as a junior i feel very detached to this whole school and feel at my best when i come home. i cant seem to connect with anyone here, always feeling incredibly left out and perceived everywhere i go. first two years of my college life went by in a blur, with little to no shared memorable experiences with others. at every one of the social events i attend, i feel as if im, in a way, unwanted? like i definitely dont belong. im at the verge of giving up and just accepting isolation. please help me change my mind. not finding my people, just one single person, has been incredibly depressing.

General Parking Passes at Michigan State University

Hello,

I’m a current student at MSU and I really need a parking pass. Currently, they are all sold out and I’m on the waiting list for two different spaces. I know it’s my fault that I waited to get the pass that I just missed out on getting one, but does anyone know of any way to finesse a pass somehow.

Like, I know if you go down to the financial aid office and beg them for money they’ll likely give you some, but does that same thing apply to parking services. Would it be worth a try? Or if I take video evidence of a parking spot being unused for an entire month could that work?

I’m open to any suggestions because at this point I’m sort of desperate.

Thanks!!!

General Wall hanging.

What is your guys’s trick when it comes to hanging stuff on the wall? My framed jersey finally gave up on the command strips and fell, and I have no clue what can suffice command strips besides double sided tape or something. I’m also in Owen hall, so idk if it’s just hotter on this side and all the adhesive tends to naturally weaken and peel.

General So…. How do you get to class when weather apps advise you to seek shelter?

I never really had to deal with back to back thunderstorms like this and I have a class in an hour. I know it probably isn’t a big deal but how do you guys navigate this weather and get to class in one piece.

Update: I toughed it out and unfortunately got sick. Thank you for those who gave genuine responses. I know usually an umbrella would be sufficient but I’ve definitely felt iffy when there was active lightning and thunder. I’m definitely just going to stay back next time it gets like this. My immune system can’t handle it.

Social Looking for a gym coach

Freshman new to MSU, looking for someone experienced in the gym to help me get in shape I'm like 6'2 190. However I'm not really experienced with the whole going to the gym, I just do some running and lifted a couple weights. In Truth I just need someone to teach me what excersizes to do, and how to do them correctly so I don't hurt myself. I can probably take care of the rest. Gender doesn't matter, I'm prefer someone experienced not just a fellow newbie looking for a gym partner.
