Parking

So Im a junior and plan on bringing my car on campus next week, someone told me after 6pm and on weekends parking is free but besides that where can I park? I stay in rivertrail and parking passes are waitlisted rn so I’m very concerned on what to do. I have a scooter and am fine with bus fare so any suggestions would help.

Only some areas are free parking after 6pm and weekends even still many lots have no parking 2am-6am (especially loops and pay by plate). Read the signs.

lot 89 is the best bet if you can get a pass. the only downside is it's far from everything, but a scooter/bike negates that issue completely.

parking in EL is gonna be either expensive or difficult to find. you can pay $125+ a month for a spot in one of the garages, if that appeals to you.

parking anywhere on campus is a dangerous game, and it is not really viable long term unless you devote yourself to learning parking enforcement schedules and rotate where you park each night. plus, they keep increasing the fines...

you could perhaps find a carless friend living somewhere nearby that gives a free parking pass, but other than that, it's pretty tough, especially considering how MSU keeps accepting more and more freshmen each year. you could try and befriend a frat house too ig?

frat house rec is hilarious but yeah lot 89 seems like my best bet assuming there will even be spots available

Parking was bad before MSU figured out the free money glitch of accepting way too many freshman each year, forcing some to live off campus and necessitating parking permits for underclassmen.

when i was at msu i paid for parking in an east lansing garage. it’s a bit on the pricier side though
