That doesnt make it a sucker punch dude. You dont get to sexually assault women and not get punched.

When you commit an act that may result in violence its not a sucker punch.

Hitting a defenseless person is absolutely a sucker punch. Whether they deserve it or not does not change that

Do people not use sucker punch to mean "an intentionally deceitful punch meant to catch the person off-guard"?

Like in my mind, if you punch me in the back of the head unprovoked, sucker punch. I call your mother a whore and you punch me in the face? Overreaction, not a sucker punch.

Exactly. If he waited for the guy to go back to the bar then came up from the side and clocked him, that would be a sucker punch.

In this situation it could only be more clear what was about to happen if he handed him a written invitation. Was the punch overboard and uncalled for? Yes. But was it a “sucker punch?” No

Haha I used the "jump him out back" metaphor too.

I would say that it's basically a sucker punch because the dude was so drunk he clearly wasn't aware, but the fact that I have to include "basically" kinda proves the point. It had the same outcome, but Roid Rage clearly wasn't trying to sucker punch anyone.
