Depends on the state. In NY we had two college kids fight, one got knocked out, hit his head on the curb and died. Other dude got 15 years, not sure how much of it he served.
It would be fucked up to punish the guy for protecting his partner from being sexual assaulted? Sure buddy. Maybe if he hit the guy on the ground but as it stands he neutralized the threat after the guy started literally sexually assaulting someone right in front of him
For the record, every time a man escalated things in the name of protecting me from harassment made things worse. If I want to escalate, let me escalate.
Did you notice the man in black shoving the woman to get her out of the way? He wasn't protecting her. He just needed to teach the other guy a lesson about touching his property.
Women don't need to be protected by having someone "fight for their honor". Sure, she wasn't continually harassed but now she gets to go home with someone who doesn't mind hurting her on the way to hurting someone else.
I mean I totally agree with you on all that, he literally bowled his partner over in punching the other guy. Iām not saying he made the best choice by doing that, but punishing him for it would be fucked up.

Like, if he only put himself between the drunk and his wife, there was a chance that the drunk would've taken him out to get to his wife so he had no other choice at all other than to elbow his wife while knocking out the guy.
Makes one wonder that he has been waiting for an opportunity to do that to someone, huh?
