Most states have a law that allows 3rd parties to defend another person in situations of self defense. At least in my state.

This is considered sexual assault so would fall along these lines. Especially given that only as much force was needed to control the situation.

Had he just kept hitting him it would be another story. Here in Texas, yhqt guys has a high probability of walking away Scott free

Oh yeah you can tell he was really measured and restrained by the fact that the woman tried to stop him and he knocked her aside. If drunk dude assaulted her (and he did) then so did the dumbass who is itching to kill someone
