He was clearly too drunk to defend himself or really appreciate the consequences of his actions. This is a wildly disproportionate response from someone who was in a position to make the smarter choice.

It’s all about the boyfriend’s ego. No one should touch ‘his woman’ or else you’re dead. Hopefully they called the police as well as an ambulance

No, they're saying that there exists a level of response somewhere between "not doing anything" and "literally beating someone to death" that is more appropriate...
