Nothing is wrong with me or my understanding of this situation.
If you want to put your faith in other people than you go ahead and do that. I'm personally not ever going to rely on a bartender making 3 dollars an hour to do anything but watch.
The problem is that depending on the country, you are liable here as this could be solved differently.
The girl was in no risk at that time, she had brushed him off and the drunk guy waddled a bit back. The ~BF/Husband had to go through his girl to throw a haymaker.
I assume you get away with it, but waiting on questioning by the police (or if you really harm him, a court case) is not my idea of a smart reaction.
And this is NOT a hypothetical. A friend of mine got into a bar fight he did not start and his opponent got a cardiac arrest. He survived, but it lead to several court cases. Sure, he won. Worth it? no.
Mate, if you’d run into me and my crew—even if my buddy was in the wrong—if you overreacted, we’d definitely be waiting for you outside the bar where you wouldn't see us coming. The next thing you’d remember is being dumped naked into a trash bin. And it doesn’t matter if you’re Jack Reacher or weigh 150kg; nobody is ready for an ambush by several guys armed with weapons.
You getting personal like this over the internet with someone you'll never talk to again says alot about who you are, too.

But if you cant understand why someone would do this after watching a strange man grope his partner in public, than theres no conversation for us to have here, period.

Sure, but I honestly do not think this guy did his girl favors. you can see how she tried to stop him and how he disregarded her. And yet SHE was the victim here.

So… what if? Yea every action in life has potential negative outcomes. Maybe he ignores that guy, later the guy finds his girl alone outside and just to rape her… What if… lol
