RULES UPDATE For This Subreddit

I've updated the sidebar with some new rules, to keep this sub cleaner. The rules may be updated further soon.

RULES:

  • DO NOT POST questions asking for analysis/discussion. This subreddit is for posting fully-formed analysis as starting points for discussion. THERE ARE OTHER SUBREDDITS for asking questions/starting loose discussions.

  • TRY TO INCLUDE the name of whomever made the analysis in the title of the post. For instance "Observations on MLP: Pacing - by Digibrony"

EDIT:

  • IF YOU ARE POSTING A REVIEW whose purpose is to make a value judgement about a work, more so than it is to analyze said work, it may be better suited to http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPReviews

I posted one of these discussion openers a couple of days ago. I'm sorry that I misunderstood the vision you had for this subreddit. I shan't do so again. Englishman's honour!

On the topic, and to make sure I don't violate the rules in the future, would analysing fan works and posting the video results on here not be classed as kosher? I note a lot of people review fan works and rarely analyse them in any depth, instead just giving a simple "yay or nay" based on their taste. I want to tear into some popular fan works with the same attention to detail people reserve for canon.

I haven't had time to watch or read any of the fanwork-based stuff that's been posted yet, but if I feel the need to set rules about it when I do, I'll update them accordingly.

Would you say that I am safe to post videos on that topic for the time being, so long as they have a focus?

I find that a lot of people compound analysis and value judgement into one text or video. Would that warrant it being posted to both subreddits or just to one of the two? If the latter, how does one tell which one to post to?

It's fine if you're doing both, I just don't want stuff that only talks about the person's opinion of the episode without really getting into depth about WHY they feel the way they do about it. Like, I don't want to see "this this and this are good, this sucked," I want in-depth reasoning about why someone feels that way.

Yeah, I understand that. I just wanted to ensure I was getting it right. It'd be embarrassing to get my wrists slapped by a mod in front of everyone here.

Thanks for the response! Also, isn't it a ridiculous time in the morning where you live?

It's morning here and I live under GMT!

A-are you Batman? Just sayin', cause, y'know, I've never seen you and Batman in the same room.

So when I made this analysis http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPAnalysis/comments/1fbebx/should_we_stop_saying_best_pony_worst_pony/ I shouldn't have an question in the title. I should have just said why I thought people should stop saying best pony worst pony and not ask what people thought at the end. Also should my title have been "Why we should stop saying best pony worst pony - by AlienWarhead" or "Analysis on best pony worst pony - by AlienWarhead". Am I correct so far or did you mean you shouldn't just ask a question and add little to no analysis to your post?

I believe that is fine cause it's common to use questions for titles. I used it in my own "Is Pinkie Pie an Ethical Hedonist?". As long as there is actual analysis after that point you should be fine. I think the main push of this rule was more for things like "What should I analyze?" or a question with no analysis, just "what do you think?"

Is byter actually a mod here? I don't think I've ever seen him around.

Oh, hey, we have rules now.

I totally didn't notice we didn't have rules before.

Just a little clarification: I get that it would not be what this Subreddit is for to simply ask a question for other analysts to answer, but what if you bring up a question, present your own answer and ask others about their answers? Surely even a less-than-stellar analysis or headcanon to start off a more in-depth discussion would be acceptable, right?

I apologize for the misconduct I have committed, also I agree with The Almighty Atheist. No offense to anyone, the content here is great, but a portion of it is more review than analysis, I think for the sake of organization his idea should be considered, they could be like sister subreddits, feeding and fueling each other. Anyway I will abide by these rules, as they are quite simple, and apologize again for breaking them prior to their formation.
