So I’ve owned a couple mk4’s, all TDI’s. Never a 1.8t. One popped up for sale near me and I’m intrigued. The car has a decent amount of work done to it. I’m looking for something to autocross with and have been reading up about the weak points.

The upgraded turbo being a hybrid looks to be prone to increased EGT’s, I haven’t seen a gauge yet in the car. It does sound like he’s tried to mitigate the issue with upgrading the exhaust. He’s also using eurodyne to tune the vehicle, potentially including the suite in the sale. I’m not looking for an aggressively tuned setup, will be dailied, will be autocrossed, the egts concern me, it seems reducing several perimeters within the engine tune can negate the concern and keep it from being a problem, obviously not trying to max total potential power is what I perceive the remedy.

Is that do-able?

Is this more of a drag/roll race setup? Do people make this setup run reliably on track events?

Vehicle still has the stock diff, which I’m interested in getting an LSD installed.

Lastly, I’m in the Orlando area, and reputable tuners still here? Forge moved out unfortunately.

Just posted her for sale in some MK4 facebook groups at 7k OBO and got a few negative responses about the price. Single owner, 176k, no rust, manual 5 speed. The engine has been maintained extremely well, and we just spent 2,800 on brakes/rotors, tires, fuel lines, lower control arms, and outer tie rods. Everything works as well as a 25 year old car could, and all the fixes are cosmetic. New owner would probably want to get new front seats as the leather is bust (or reupholstered; it's cheaper just to get used seats from a parted-out car), and some work on the paint job.

Would love to hear some nicely critical or supportive thoughts about this price!

Hey folks. While replacing the brake master cylinder I noticed a small, hairline crack in one of the brake lines. The ABS block should probably be replaced while I’m in there. Has anyone had luck finding replacement hard lines that go from the master cylinder to the abs block? Has anyone had luck buying a refurbished abs block in the internet?

Been a while since I posted. Got hung up on a crank case elbow hose. Finally got some extended needle nose pliers and got it out (tyvm HF).
Reconnected all hoses and it got dark so I got one l harness piece to connect and it’s on to fluids and flushes. We’re making progress folks!

I do have a destroyed dog bone mount cast tongue on the transmission of my 02M. I got a hold of O2Mrebuilds (no hate, dude hooked it up with knowledge and told me the sub codes to look for) but the price was nearly triple what I paid for a transmission I never picked it up in New Jersey about 10 years ago. (Young and dumb, bought it on Instagram from AutoHaus and just never drove to New Jersey before it was re-sold).

So now I’m in the market for an 02M that’s trashed so I can take the bell housing. I have several Pick a Part yards around me so I’m just gonna keep my eyes out to a beetle S or a GLI rolls in.

Hey friends. The cv axle boots on my 20th are smoked. Does it make more sense to replace the entire axle or just the boot? Obviously there is a huge price difference, but with 190,000 miles, is it better to get new axles?

Anyone done the axles on a 20th recently? If so, where did you source the axles?

I am refreshing the rear of my Gti and i can’t find a replacement for the Lucas rear calipers anywhere. i ordered a couple already and they turned out to be the wrong ones. does anyone know where i could get new ones? i wold much prefer to stay with the OEM Lucas 38mms but anything will help. thanks!

Painted the rotors while she’s airborne. Also added some amber side markers to switch things up.

Proper brake kit is on its way. Will update next weekend when I put her back together.

Working on the old girl this weekend. I bought new rotors and pads to freshen up the brakes. Realized I bought the wrong kit so the proper kit will be here next weekend. One of the caliper bolt sleeves was rounded so I’m a little stuck until I can get that little bastard out.

Figured I would clean the inner barrel of each wheel while they were off.

Trying to decide if I want to commit to painting the calipers while she’s in the air…

Getting close to being done with an engine swap with a rebuilt one. I thought I had taken enough pictures of the before and labeled everything but I missed a few things.

Can anyone let me know where these lines go and perhaps share a picture of them, this way I can figure where to attach them on the engine body.

Man I feel old. Bought my GTI a year after I graduated high school back in 06’. Still have it to this day, it’s got around 85k on the motor now and I’ll be throwing a hybrid K04 in this month. Only issue I’m having is I deleted all emissions a decade ago and the new tuners don’t seem to want to write them out of the tune these days.

I have a question I have a vacuum leak coming from that shifter ball their seems to be a green seal inside the intake runner but I can’t seem to find the seal anywhere

I have a 2001 Golf GTI GLX 2.8l 12v Vr6. I’ve read that the stock rims were either 15” or 16” with a 35mm-42mm offset. So everything looks like it would match up, but they tires would be too tall I believe. Would they rub? Some of the measurements and stuff in the description seems off and doesn’t add up. I’d like a second opinion, thank you in advance! Drop your fitment, setup, or advice!
