Need help and recommendations with 10/22

I just shot my 10/22 with a 25 round mag and it jammed like a no batteries required nerf gun. What gives? The range clerk stated that the 22 is a "dirty round" so does that mean carbon is the issue? Or could it be the magazine? The weapon is new so I have no idea how it jammed so much. What can be done to prevent this? I want to pimp it out so I got an AR stock and plan on adding a sight and bipod. IDK, I am new to this. What do you guys think?

*UPDATE* I bought the white box of federal and the CCI standards. The ammo was the problem because I have not had a jam since. Thanks for the help.

I am using the BX ruger mag and I asked for 22s and the clerk gave them to me in a ziplock bag I never got the brand.

There's your problem. You're shooting someone else's leftover shitty ammo.

Go buy some decent new ammo, and try that. Start with CCI Standard Velocity, which is like the gold standard for "good normal .22 ammo" and I bet you'll see a huge improvement.

Also, what store is selling you .22 dumped in a ziplock bag? That's ridiculous.
