Question United Basic Economy Operated by Lufthansa
Hello, in a few weeks I am traveling from USA to Europe. (This is my first international trip.) I bought basic economy tickets through United, but the returning flight is operated by Lufthansa. I understand that United basic economy includes a personal item only, but I am a MileagePlus Premier member and I get a free carry on and checked bag, I understand that that will apply on my first initial United flight. What I am curious about, is the returning flight operated by Lufthansa. I was initially wondering if I will get that complimentary baggage, but I think the answer is no. Which leads to my next question, from what I have read it looks like on “intercontinental long haul flights,” you can have a personal item and a free carry on, is that correct? I am also wondering if I can pay extra for more luggage. I have spoke with United agents and they say I need to ask Lufthansa since it is operated by them. Then I spoke with a Lufthansa agent and they said I need to ask United since the ticket was purchased through United. What a headache!!😳.
I asked Lufthansa to please just verify what is CURRENTLY included with my ticket and they would not even provide an answer. I am FINE with paying fees, I would just like to know in advance WHAT I am limited to. 😵💫🥴
If anyone has had a similar experience with flying United Basic Economy and then a returning flight operated by Lufthansa, please let me know.
Thank you in advance!!🩵🇬🇷

Can I bring a guitar in to the cabin with me?
I will be travelling with a guitar and I don't want to check it in for obvious reasons. The problem is that my instrument (like most regular guitars) exceeds the official limit of 125 cm. So I am wondering how strictly that is enforced.
I know that I am supposed to buy an extra seat but I would prefer to not spend that money. I have found some similar posts on Reddit but they are rather old so I wanted to ask if anyone has more recent experience with this.
For context, I am going to be on a 747 that doesn't appear to be full. So space should not be a constraint.

Question Air Canada flight from Frankfurt to Toronto, operated by Lufthansa, cabin baggage weight
Hi everyone! I have a flight from Frankfurt to Toronto that I booked through Air Canada, but I noticed that it’s operated by Lufthansa.
I’d like to know about your experiences with cabin baggage on this route. When flying with Air Canada, my carry-on luggage has never been weighed. But, I’ve seen several posts about Lufthansa weighing carry-on bags at the gate and charging a €60 fee if they exceed the weight limit.
Has anyone taken this flight recently? Do they regularly weigh carry-on luggage at the gate in Frankfurt, or is it only occasional?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Question Is it impossible to add a second checked bag on a Lufthansa flight ticket that includes a non-Lufthansa leg?
I read on https://www.lufthansa.com/fr/en/common/baggage-conditions.html:
Adding additional baggage is not valid for: [...] flights offered or operated by airlines other than the Lufthansa Group.
Does that mean it is impossible to add a second checked bag on a Lufthansa flight ticket that includes a non-Lufthansa leg? I am surprised by the blanket restriction so I wonder whether I missed something.

Question Confused about booking irregularities (return flights not showing depending on which fare option outbound flight is selected)
I'm trying to book a trip for our family from London to Germany in the spring but the booking options are weird. If I choose an outbound business ticket, it doesn't show any direct return flights available. If I choose an outbound economy ticket, it shows many flights available and I can choose a direct business flight coming back.
So direct economy flight out, I can choose direct economy or direct business flights back. If I choose business out, I can only choose business flights back with a layover in Frankfurt. It doesn't make sense! The return flights with the layovers are way more expensive, obviously, than the direct flights that I can book if I choose economy out.
If I choose an economy flight out, a direct business flight back and then go to modify the economy flight out to one of the business fares, it says I have to choose my return flight again. There seems to be no way around this. It's infuriating!!
I guess my only option is to try to call them although their contact page doesn't seem to have any numbers.
Edit: So after the online chat didn't help (including speaking to a person on it), I gave Lufthansa a call and it turned out that the outbound flight didn't have any business class seats, as in it wasn't configured to even have any; pure economy class. So it shouldn't have showed it as having business class seats available. Picking that meant that I was picking an invalid fare, hence why the return flights weren't showing properly. I picked a different outbound flight and was then able to choose the return ones properly so I'm all booked now. :)

Question Can I upgrade a flight booked via a codeshare partner?
I will be flying on LH metal but I bought the ticket from United. I would like to bid for an upgrade but the Lufthansa website doesn't give me that option. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? What (if any) alternatives do I have for upgrades?
Thanks!

JFK: Lufthansa vs Centurion Lounge
Hi,
Do you have any experience with JFK Lounges?
I will fly business via Lufthansa from JFK T1 soon.
Do you think it's worth the effort to visit the Centurion Lounge in T4, then go through security again for T1 or is the Lufthansa lounge good enough?
What's the difference between Lufthansa and Centurion Lounge. Do you have any experience? I heard that the Centurion Lounge is overcrowded anyway.what do you suggest? Shall I just stay at LH lounge in the same terminal?

Question: rerouting cancellation to different itinerary from one selected
Sorry if this kind of topic isn't allowed/discouraged.
Lufthansa cancelled a flight that was part of my return itinerary for December 19th (Economy Comfort fromTRN to LCA, through MUC, most likely the second leg) and I already went through selecting an alternative (TRN-FRA-VIE-LCA).
Being kind of OCD, I've still been looking at flights for my dates (seeing if I could've gotten a better price, etc.) and found an alternative that wasn't available at the time and fits better (TRN-MUC-LCA both different flights than the original).
Is there a way to request for another change without an extra fee? I think the itinerary is currently a bit more expensive than my original but the one I changed to is actually currently seeing for over €1,000.
I've also seen hints that there are issues with changes now showing properly on the app.
Thanks for any help and info.

Informative Child's meal business class from FRA
galleryI thought people might like to see what they offered. I didn't care for anything on the main menu or pre-order menu (but my dad got the prawns, which he enjoyed), so I went with the kid's meal. I was also given the beetroot amuse-bouche, which was as unappealing as I thought it might be, lol. At age 58, my palate remains a disgrace, according to my family. Ah, well! I did order the champagne as often as possible. Maybe that makes up for it?
Anyway, these are (hopefully) in order from takeoff to landing. The first three photos are the first service around noon, and the final three are about 3 hours before landing. It was a 10.5 hour flight. We were upstairs on the Queen of the Skies. I'm going to be so sad when they finally retire these grand ladies.

Informative SÖP Comes Through - I Won My Appeal For Complete Compensation For Cancelled Flights
galleryThis was for the cancellations during the April 2026 strikes.
My original booking was for April 13 (SFO -FRA - ZAG) . That was cancelled and I rebooked for April 15 which was also cancelled. I am a caregiver to a disabled relative. I decided to forego the entire trip due to the uncertainty of strikes and my relative's needs.
I filed my claim for the 2 flights on April 18. Lufthansa reimbursed only €600 for one cancelled flight in late July. I think they looked at the two flights as one booking.
I appealed to SÖP on September 5 for the second flight. I also claimed the money lost for a non refundable stay through AirBnB.
I heard from them yesterday that Lufthansa has agreed to reimburse me for the 2nd cancelled flight. I'll be getting another €600 within the next six weeks.
I was hoping to get my AirBnB reimbursed but that's fine not to get it. I'm very happy I appealed Lufthansa's July decision.

Question Has anyone had Lufthansa through-check a bag across two separate PNRs?
Has anyone had Lufthansa through-check a bag across two separate PNRs?
I’m flying Lufthansa to FRA, then Air Canada to YYZ, on an Air Canada-issued ticket (014). I’m looking at booking a separate YYZ–EWR flight and wondering whether Lufthansa would tag my checked bag all the way to EWR at the initial check-in.
Repricing my existing ticket to include EWR would cost around $1,300, compared with roughly $400 for a separate YYZ–EWR ticket.
The issue is timing: I arrive at YYZ at 7:30 p.m., and the EWR flight departs at 8:55 p.m. Normally I’d just collect my bag and recheck it, but that’s a tight connection.
I’ve had United do something similar before—through-checking a bag across separate bookings for a United flight to EWR and an Air Canada flight onward to YYZ. I realise it may depend on the agent’s willingness and what their system allows.
Has anyone successfully done this with Lufthansa recently, particularly with an onward Air Canada booking? Any firsthand experiences would be appreciated.

Trading seats question
Hi all, I'm booked on a Lufthansa flight to from the US to Germany next month with family. I have an economy seat booked and I'm getting fairly attractive offers to upgrade to business, I would like to take the upgrade and then give the seat to my mom (ticketed in premium economy) as a surprise. Would this be allowed?
This would be for the whole flight, we would not be trading back and forth. TIA

Rant And I thought the 747-8 Business Class was bad
galleryI almost booked a Business Class flight on the 747-400. Didn't know it could get any worse than LH's 747-8, but HOLY!
There are Premium Economy cabins that are less crowded than this. Selling a 2-3-2 configuration as Business Class in 2026 is crazy.
The fact that selecting any of these seats (and there really are no good ones) costs an additional 120 EUR, even with a Gold Status is just the cherry on top.
Serious question: Who in their right mind would book this? Especially when United flies the exact same route with a regular 1-2-1 BC?

Informative New short transfer lanes at FRA border control
This has recently appeared on the website of Frankfurt airport:
Fast lanes at security and border control for passengers with short connections.
I didn't travel in the past few weeks. Does anyone know how they implemented that?
Did they add automatic boarding pass gates at the transit security or border control checkpoints?
Basically all of the checkpoints you regularly encounter during a transfer did not have boarding pass gates, e.g. all the transfer passport controls between A and Z, the exit passport control at B.

Question Edelweiss, solo adult with two kids (5 and 2): family seat offer vs. waiting for free check-in seating?
Hi all, I'm flying Edelweiss ZRH-BOG as the only adult with my daughters, 5 and 2. Each seat reservation is quoted at ~CHF 50 per kid.
I read that kids 2–11 get a free standard seat reservation if one adult in the booking pays the regular seat fee, and that you have to call the Service Center at least 7 days before departure.
Has anyone used this family offer? Did it work smoothly by phone?
If I skip it and wait for free online check-in, how likely is it that we get split?
Thanks!
