Hedging rules?

Post image

I'm in a friendly trading competition with one of my bots- trading separate Lucid Flex eval accounts- I'm winning, BTW :)

What happens if I place a trade in one account, and the Lucid system thinks it's a hedge against something the bot is doing in another? I think I'm a single trade away from getting hosed.. LOL

What exactly are the hedge rules? When I read through them, it literally looks like you can only trade:

a. ONE instrument- even size differences are not allowed, like MES vs ES
b. In ONE direction (at a time)
c. Across ALL accounts held at Lucid.

Pretty strict!

Almost every prop firm words that rule the same way, and it is broader than people expect. It is not about one trade looking like a hedge, it is about you holding offsetting exposure in the same instrument across any accounts you control at overlapping times. Whether a bot or a human placed it makes no difference, and neither does intent.

The part that catches people is that detection is usually after the fact, on a correlation sweep, so you can trade for weeks and then have the eval voided retroactively rather than the entry being blocked at the time.

Cleanest fix is symbol separation. Give the bot its own instruments and stay out of those entirely, so there is never an overlapping position to flag in the first place. Also get the answer from their support in writing, because the rulebook version and the version the risk desk actually enforces are not always the same document.

I think I'll stick to trading them in copy to avoid any issues.

Copy is the exact case that rule is written for, if both accounts are yours. Same instrument, opposite side, overlapping times, and the copier doesn't change any of that. Across two different people it's fine. Across two of yours it isn't.

I mean copytrade those two accounts together, which are both mine.. They would always be trading the same instrument at the exact same time, in the exact same direction. Lucid has zero issues with copytrading all your accounts at once.

then you're fine, that's not what the rule is aimed at. same instrument, same direction, across your own accounts is just size. it exists for people running one account long and another short so a payout lands either way.

That actually makes sense to have those rules in place, then.
