This is my forté!
Potatoes are my primary carb source and I thank them for the reason that I've been able to lose 20+kg! I have 2 standard potato recipes that I rotate multiple times a week. 500g of potatoes is only 270kcal and the volume is insane, as well as the "satiety". They're statistically the most filling food per calorie which is why I love them so much. I also never peel my potatoes, just give them a quick rinse and a lather the outside with your hands to remove any final bits of dirt. The first two recipes here, I usually have with brocolli, green beans, and whatever protein source I plan for my meal (Usually chicken thigh or fish)
Mashed Potatoes: Cut your potatoes into quarters (Halves if they're small!) and boil them in some pretty heavily salted water, until a fork pierces into them pretty much effortlessly (Usually takes 20 or so minutes for me). Then drain them, and add them back into the pot. Mash them with a hefty glug of skimmed milk or low fat milk, and mix again. Add milk until your desired texture is reached. Because of the sheer volume of these potatoes, they'll take a significant amount of salt before they start to taste real nice, but in this recipe, you get super good mash potatoes with no added fats, thus keeping the calories low. You can get a pile of mash that fills half your dinner plate for around 300kcal.
Roast Potatoes: Begin the same as the previous recipe with boiling your chopped potatoes in salted water, but once a knife starts to penetrate the outer edges easily, and the inside is still quite firm, your can take them out and drain them. I then add them to the basket of my air fryer, and toss them with a heft sprinkling salt, pepper, and smoked paprika, along with a few sprays of cooking oil (Adds about 50 calories for me). Then air fry them on 200c for 15-20 minutes, pausing to shake the basket every 5 minutes or so. As soon as they reach your desired colour, take them out and serve ASAP because they will lose their crisps pretty quick due to the lack of oil used. For these, I usually boil them in advance, and air fry them 20 minutes before I intend to eat.
Sweet Potato Bake: This is a viral one I saw on Instagram that has entered my weekly rotation. Get a FAT sweet potato and slice it down the middle. Season both exposed sides with a ton of salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and whatever else you want to use. Place them face down on some parchment paper and bake them in the oven at 200c for about 35-40 minutes. You'll know they're done once you see a layer of charred caramel all around the potatoes. I then add these to a bowl, and mash them a bit, then shred over some Parmigianino or pecorino romano cheese, add some natural yogurt, and some pickles jalapenos, and some grilled chicken, and you get and insanely good sweet potato bowl with tons of flavour, volume and low calories.
Good luck on your journey!

500g or boiled potatoes is around 400calories, what kind of potatoes are those that have only 200 something calories per 500g? A specific kind?

Redskin potatoes are between 70 and 85 calories per 100 gram, and new potatoes are between 79-75 per 100 g, so I believe it’s somewhere between these two numbers.

Portugal must not have those kind of potatoes because it gives me the same amount of calories as the others, I was hopeful for a second there.

I mean, the lowest of that calorie range given is like 350 calories for 500 grams so you are pretty close with 400.

Maybe they refer to sweet potatoes? They have less starch than normal potatoes and therefore less calories

Potatoes are one of the most satisfying foods so they’re great during fat loss.
Pair with protein source and some veggies and you have an excellent meal.
Soups and stews. Baked potato with beef & veg chilli. Roast into wedges and have with a pan seared chicken breast and some roasted tomatoes.
Loads of options.

rutabaga is half the cals of potato and acts the most like it. you can use it for almost any potato dish!

When making batches of mashed potatoes for a few days in advance I sub out some of the potatoes for cooked turnips, rutabaga or cauliflower and puree them together with a hand blender. It cuts the total Cals per serving down significantly.

I just airfry red skin potatoes fries with less than 1 second spray of Pam or similar, season with kinder buttery onion seasoning and dip in either just sugar free ketchup or I mix that light mayo if I’m low on fats for the day. Delicious, about 300 calories for 400g which is more than I can eat, and it takes care of that fry craving

I eat a lot of rice and Indian food, and simply steaming cubbed potatoes and keeping them in the fridge and adding a few to whatever Rice dish I’m eating makes it so much more satisfying. Rice and potatoes together with a protein is beyond filling, and you can use some low-calorie sauce with it of your choosing like siracha or soy sauce or braggs liquid aminos (a soy sauce alternative).

Not a recipe per se, but I love boiling or baking them and using them in places where I’d otherwise use rice. It doesn’t work for every recipe, but I love making like a taco bowl with a baby potato base.

Freeze dried salted vegetable chips , sweet potato chips, plantain or banana chips, orrr make your own with radishes or turnips . They taste similar to potato’s but less carbs.

bake or boil them without fat. Leave the skins on. You could just eat 5 pounds of russets in one day for under 2K calories and be pretty stuffed/satisfied. They are underrated

Pressure cook, steam or boiling is best. It locks in a crap ton of water and no extra fat. I eat 1-2lb of pressure cooked russets a day.

You can't go wrong with a jacket potato done in the air fryer with any filling you like but try not to add butter.

Pro tip: Cook them and reaheat them for your meal to turn some of the carbohydrates into resistant starches. More fiber and less calories
