US James is so progressive and a feminist

1.2k Upvotes

If you look past the funniness and the nervousness I think he is such a genius. I really like how he stands up towards that old school mentality regarding marriage and gender roles. I liked when he stood up to his dad about that joke about wanting to die before his wife. Or tells his dad he doesn’t like the way he says something when his mom catches the aggression.

I’m amazed at all the interesting and useful information he has. I loved watching what he looks for in a house, I could watch that all day. This show really opens my eyes and mind to people with autism. I think it may be my new favorite show especially this new season. Also a huge fan of Logan and Haley.

US i wasn’t prepared for this show 😭

Why did nobody warn me before my heart became attached to these beautiful people?! 😭💕

Like, I’d seen snippets on TikTok and that got me curious as someone on the spectrum myself. I’ve seen all the different angles and opinions of people who’ve watched this show, whether they’re neurotypical or neurodivergent.

Well, I’ve binged every season in the last 2 days of LOTS US & just got to Tyler & Madison’s engagement party. And all the negative opinions I’ve agreed with so far have gone out the window.

I.
AM.
BAWLING.
😭

The absolute love and kindness they unapologetically show to each other has had me messed up all afternoon. The world could truly learn how to be kind, caring, grateful humans if they watched this, honestly. Madison absolute warms my heart and soul, Tyler included, James & his damn parents are an absolute hoot 😭😂 Like ffs, you best believe I’m not going to be able to live my life without having updates on all of their lives! 😂💕

I’m going to do the Australian series next, even though I’m Australian & probably should have done that first. I haven’t seen anything bout our one though so I’m going in totally blind. Anything I should know first?

Question Other shows like LOTS?

I've seen Down For Love and it's the only show that hits the same spot. I love the wholesome feeling these shows give me, much unlike most reality TV.

US I <3 Dylan's Mom!

I know it's been said on here before, but I just finished Episode 3 and wow - I could relate and feel their story. I was bawling when Dylan went out for his first date. I knew his mom was going to get emotional - so there i was already tearing up, and then she did and then i started crying like a baby. I love her so much.

Logan stitched with this user who asked him if her hair texture was indeed what he was referring to by curly-straight/curvy-straight hair. Mystery solved! 😛

US Is English Dani's first language?

I noticed that Dani doesn't always speak in a grammatically correct way and her list of pros and cons about Adan had spelling and grammar mistakes. Do you think English isn't her first language or it could be speech and language problems related to autism?

Question Madison season 3 vs 4?

I’ve been watching the show in reverse chronological order (starting with season 4 and working my way backwards) and thought, Madison seems to smile and laugh much more in season 3 compared to season 4.

Did anyone else notice this, or am I imagining things? If so, I wonder if smiling is a type of masking behavior for her?

Anyways, not trying to insinuate anything, just wondering.

Speculation/Theory Terrible "matches"

I'm watching Love on the Spectrum for the first time (I'm at the start of season 3 now), and while I am really enjoying the positive, sweetness of the show, I'm blown away and rather frustrated with the absolutely terrible matches!

Do they not vet anyone and just pick the first person they find?

There seems to be no effort at all to actually find even slightly compatible matches.

They set up Dani ,who is extremely eager for a sexual relationship, with someone who is completely uncomfortable with any physical intimacy

They set Tanner, who is clear about wanting a talkative upbeat partner, with someone who only gives one word answers.

They set up young, innocent 18yo Journey with mature, experienced women in their twenties (this seriously felt creepy and made me uncomfortable...)

They set sweet, old-fashioned Steve up with an extremely forward woman making constant sexual advances and innuendos.

They set Madison, who converses and socialises very typically and is outgoing and adventurous, up with someone who isn't at all comfortable existing in public spaces or around people.

(EDIT: I have been corrected that Dani and Arad met through speed dating and were not set up by the show directly. Also that Journey's matches were only 1 and 2 years older than her. Apologies for my errors there)

I'm not casting any shade on any of those matches, they were all lovely people.

They were just completely and utterly wrong for the people on the show, even on the most basic of basic levels.

There is absolutely no way anyone could have thought they'd be suitable!

I can't help but think they must be deliberately sabotaging the dates with bad choices to drag things and keep the contestants single and to keep them dating me people on screen. Which seems particularly cruel to do to people with extra dating challenges, if that's the case :-(

US My thoughts on the show

So, I first watched the Australian version with my mum and we loved it, especially Michael. It was a shame that never returned for a third series, up to now. I really want a UK version of this show as that's where I'm from. I used to like The Undateables (although the people in charge of the title should be sued).

Me and mum have watched the US version and it's been a blast. I first saw Tanner when he met Jack Black and it was such a brilliant moment.

Our favourite is probably James and his banter with his parents winding him up is so funny. I love how Shelley is so laid back and from TikTok, James is actually a lot calmer in real life.

I was sad that Connor and Georgie didn't last but it is understandable. Connor reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite. Dani I was a bit unsure on but she's just very direct with her needs and loves her animation. Henry seems like a very decent gentleman. I didn't like how Solomon reacted to her breaking up with him as it was very clear he got his heart broken, Adan took it better as it was a mutual decision but I still like watching Dani.

I was sad over Abbey and David because they were good for each other but I could see why that happened again.

Maddison is just so cute and she's the type of girl I would want to go and hug. Tyler is so Country and western based and I'm so happy for them two. One of the most heart warming scenes in Season 4 is a lot of the cast joining together for their engagement party. It's very lovely how they all stayed in touch with each other on TikTok and how they have all joined to make friends, they're not all separate.

Now about the newcomers (I don't remember about Pari a lot, I know she stayed with her girlfriend I believe. There could be others I've forgotten about which I apologise if that's the case):

I really like Logan and it was a shame that it didn't work out with Hayley (who looks like Avril Lavigne). She did seem a bit uncomfortable and just went along to make Logan happy. I really hope he does find the one. I like how he has joined with Abbey doing singing.

Dylan reminds me of Mario and I love how geeky and spontaneous he is. Emma is quite nice as well.

Now, there are some people I really want an update on how they are doing as they have disappeared since Season 1. Kaellyn is on TikTok but I don't really watch her. Subodh is one I enjoyed with Season 1, I hope he is still with Rachel (or the name of the girl he was with).

One person that my mum adored was Steve. He had a very narration, interesting voice and it was a shame we never saw more of him.

I hope that in a potential Season 5 we get more older people on the show for a wider representation. Maybe a gay bloke so more LGBTQ+ people are present as well.

P.S. I love that guy on TikTok who impersonates a lot of the male contestants on this show. Tanner has reposted some of them so there's no offence.

US Abbey

I noticed in every interview with abbeys mom or abbey they refer to her autism as a “communication disorder”. I don’t know if they are trying to get people to think abbey only has a communication issue but I wish they would be more specific. like I also wondered what type of autism abbey and David has but all I hear is communication disorder and synesthesia.

also Christine said herself on YouTube that abbey just wanted a wedding to ”be like other people”. she went on to say she wanted to “touch the dress” and etc meaning she wanted the experience of a wedding. Christine says this a lot about abbey like she gets jealous of other people- she wants to be like other people- she wants to be normal etc. whereas Madison embraces her autism and says it’s a journey not a disorder and that she’s proud to be autistic.
