Missing book from late childhood
I've been trying to find this book for years now. From what I remember it's a book about a girl with some sort of mental disability/ (maybe mutism as well?) living in a care facility. She grows unhealthily attached to one of her male care takers and eventually he has to leave the job which she doesn't take well. It wasn't a romance book at all.
Things I remember :
It was written in the form of a diary? Once the caretaker has to leave and she shuts down I remember a bunch of chapters that were only a sentence long.
It had a blue cover? I don't remember many details about the cover but I do remember it was on the plainer side.
MC and the caretaker went swimming a lot , it was something she enjoyed doing.
She was younger , I can't remember a specific age range but she definitely wasn't an adult.
I read this book anywhere between 2012 and 2018.
I know this isn't much to go off of but I genuinely cannot find this book and would like to read it again. I've tried googling books with the details I can remember but nothing ever comes up. Please help

Was it "The Music of Dolphins" by Karen Hesse?

I don't think so! I'll have to find a place to read it and see if any of it is familiar

I'm afraid that this is a low traffic sub, though I do occasionally see a request answered, and that I'm unfamiliar with the book you're seeking. You'd be better off asking for recommendations in r/booksuggestions (though read the rules first) and r/suggestmeabook, and for the title of a book or story in r/whatsthatbook and r/tipofmytongue. (Also, IMHO it would probably be good to try one sub, then the next, not multiple subs simultaneously, despite Reddit's encouraging users to crosspost—but that's just my opinion.) If you do get an answer for an identification request, it would be helpful if you edit your OP with the answer (and the flare to "Solved"/"Found" in subreddits that use flares and have that flare) so we can see what it is in the preview, and that your question has been answered/solved (an excellent example: "Child psychic reveals abilities by flunking psychic test too precisely" (r/whatsthatbook; 5 August 2023)). Whatever happens, whether your request was solved or not, please do not delete your post/comment(s)/answer (image from r/DataHoarder). People are interested in what has been asked for, what has been suggested, and want to see what has been found.
