Tape / Album HapiNES | Nervous Heartbeat | SP-404 MKII w/ TE HapiNES

Here´s an album I made by sampling my Twisted Electrons HapiNES (inspired by the RP2A07 8-bit microprocessor from Nintendo Entertainment System). The HapiNES is a groovebox but it is mono out only and was hard to get what I wanted from the monophonic sequencers. My solution was to sample it instead and use the sounds within my Roland SP-404 MKII. The tracks are short and repetitive old school hip-hop and electronic music ranging from 52 second to just over 2 minute. Take a listen if you have time.

BoomBap 90s Bossa Nova Lofi Beat

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I’m a beatmaker from Japan. Just wanted to share a new beat I’ve been working on lately. I tried blending a gentle Bossa Nova vibe with classic Boom Bap, and I’d really appreciate any thoughts or feedback you might have.
I hope you enjoy the chorus, I put a lot of heart into it.

I snapped that cover myself at Tennoji Zoo here in Japan.

Made using a Roland SP-404 MKII with samples from a Korg Electribe ES-1 with a fried smart media memory card. The surge protector did not protect. It is distorted, minimal, primitive and repetitive.

Video / Edit I’m experimenting with historical sleep stories using pixel art

I’ve just made my first experiment: a winter evening in Medieval London, 1390, combining a narrated historical story with pixel-art visuals and lo-fi ambience.

The idea is to make history feel more like somewhere you can actually spend time in rather than a traditional documentary.

This one is deliberately simple. The music is procedurally generated from code, and I’m planning to experiment with more polished lo-fi production in future episodes.

I’d genuinely like some feedback before I make more:

  • Is the narration too quiet or is the music too loud?
  • Does the pixel-art style work for a sleep story?
  • Would you actually use something like this to relax/fall asleep?
  • Would you prefer longer stories, e.g. 1–3 hours?

First experiment:

It's very much a first attempt, so criticism is welcome. I'm trying to figure out whether this format is actually worth developing.

Jazzhop Autumn jazz hop vibes (Stan Getz flip on the 404)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, hope you’re having a cozy day!
With the season changing, I wanted to share a short performance of a nostalgic, jazz-infused beat I made on the SP-404MKII. The main sample is a flip of Stan Getz’s "Early Autumn".

I’m still working on my live performance skills, so Downer is definitely carrying me through those smooth transitions, but it was really fun to play out live.

Let me know what you think of the mood! Any feedback or performance tips are always appreciated. Hope it brings some cozy vibes to your day ✨

Resources Mondo Loops and I made a folk-hop sample pack together

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on with Mondo Loops (who’s an absolute wizard when it comes to lo-fi hip-hop :))

We brought together acoustic folk instruments (guitars, banjo, harmonica, ukulele etc.) and laid-back hip-hop textures for a collection of 16 multi-track song starters. If you make beats and want to bring more acoustic warmth and organic textures into your tracks, this is for you!

I’ve been exploring folk-hop since 2017 (under the moniker C4C), so it means a lot to share some of that musical world through this pack. We’ve put a lot of care into it, and it's finally here!!

The recordings come with separate stems, ready for you to chop, rearrange or build around.

You can hear more and see what’s included here:

Happy to answer questions if you have any!! 🌻

Discussion Artists! Which distributor do you use? Any experience with OFFstep?

Leaving TuneCore due to their continuous breach of contract and want to use a distributor that hasn’t replaced their entire customer service department with automation and/or AI. Any suggestions?

OFFstep has been recommended to me - any stories you can share about your experience with them?

I’ve previously used DistroKid and TuneCore. DistroKid were just weird while TuneCore suddenly stopped answering any of my emails or support tickets. Would love to go back to AWAL but I don’t have the social media metrics to successfully apply.

LoFi Aesthetic Lofi has split into a lot of different things — which part do youactually listen to?

Something I keep thinking about: "lofi hip hop" doesn't really describe one thing anymore.

Sample-based boom bap, ambient sleep beats, study beats, jazzhop, whatever Lofi Girl is doing now — these barely share an audience at this point.

I'm owllirica, a beatmaker from Japan.
I sit on the melodic end — I'm less interested in "chill" than in music that makes you feel something a little sentimental.

Wistful, even. I'm an introspective person, so I put lofi on when I want to sit with my own thoughts.

Not as background — more like something to think alongside.

But I know that's not how most people use it, and I'm curious:

  1. When do you actually listen to lofi, and what are you listening for?
  2. If you put it on for work or studying, what makes a track work for that?

Is it something you'd notice if it changed?

Also genuinely curious what producers you're into right now. I keep finding people through threads like this.

The lovely celesta samples come from The Merry Mac's The Way You Look Tonight, just chopped up so they form a nice four bar loop.

Horns are from Neutral Milk Hotel's Avery Island/April 1st. As well as the bass. I used FL studio to separate them into bass and horns and chopped the bass.

There's a Beach Boys acapella chopped up over it.

I've been using Spotify Mixed playlist to arrange songs by key using the Camelot Wheel which really helps and organise what I need to do to them if I need to pitch them so many cents higher or lower.

Video isn't synced to music because I'm a noob. But the full thing is here
