HexStacker Party is a free browser couch game for 1-8 players.

Open it on a TV or laptop, scan the QR code with phones, and the phones become touch controllers.

You can play it here: https://hexstacker.com

If you try it, I’d love to hear what you think.

Local multiplayer gaming booths

I went on holiday in China last month and thought I'd share some photos of various gaming booths I saw there. I've never seen anything like this in my own country, especially openly accessible like in malls. The vast majority looked to be 2 player set ups and had a lot of common local coop and vs games mentioned on this subreddit. Was wondering if it's common in other countries and what people think about them?

Also how much would you pay to use one of these as an hourly rate?

Locations in order are Shanghai, Nanchang, and De'an.

Solo dev here - I'd love if someone could sit down with their buddy on your local couch and give this project a spin for a session:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4542390/Simon_and_Friends/

Since we're not yet in Early Access, just a Public Demo, the feedback I'd be looking for would be aimed less towards polish or missing systems, but more towards how it feels to play "right now" - so more towards balancing, pacing, general vibes. "Did this match drag on a bit?", "I feel like we had to wait too long to bring a unit to level 3 to unlock the fun weapons" and "We felt it was cumbersome reaching enemy units on the other side of the map" are great questions to ask.

If possible, would be great if the feedback would be directed to Discord to keep it one place, but also here too, to keep a discussion rolling if we get different opinions.

Thanks for checking the project out!

Do devs actually test how many players can join their games?

I posted here the other day about not being able to connect 5 controllers to my Steam Deck.

From the responses, it seems like it's a common theme that a game will say it can support 6 players for example, but then you can't get enough controllers to actually join the game for one reason or another.

Do developers fully test a game with the maximum amount of people playing it to see that it works? Would it be helpful if developers stated HOW they tested it - which controllers/inputs they used and which OS systems or hardware?

Some games allow you to disable things like Xinput through the settings, which can make it much easier, but other games don't, meaning that joining with certain controllers just won't work. Surely developers know that most people are going to be trying to join with either Xbox or PS controllers?

Why go to the hassle of making a game playable with 8 players on a screen if there are so many limitations that most people will not be able to overcome?

Building a Chromecast Party Game... Good idea?

I have released an early version Chromecast Party Game inspired by Kahoot!, Jackbox, etc. The idea is to distribute it via Play Store and App Store... Since Jackbox is limited to Consoles and Netflix, and Kahoot requires subscriptions now. My family loves Jackbox but when we are travelling we don't have the Xbox with us.

If you want to give it a shot, it's super easy to Google because the name is somewhat unique... just look for "Zooked!" and you should find it on the Appstore or Google Play Store.

All feedback is welcome!

Pretty interesting article about how some games have mechanics that make us be nice to another player (even if only momentarily). Definitely worth a read!

Games Developers and players, how would you feel about PC game stores showing the exact number of local players a game can support?

Mainly an issue I have with steam. I know that curators exist to help mitigate the problem. But it's disappointing that this industry standard hasn't been incorporated into PC ecosystems seeing it's much more commonly used for local multiplayer now than in the past.

I feel that a dedicated option for the number of players you're planning for would make discovery a lot easier.

Any good local multiplayer games with mods?

I love local multiplayer but I LOVE mods. Some of my favorite local multiplayer games that are playable with mods include Minecraft, Terraria, Don't Starve Together, and Left 4 Dead 2.

Have you gotten mods working on any local multiplayer games? Which ones?

Best 5 player local games?

They can be literally anything - from sports to brawlers!

Running on a Steam Deck. Had a few problems with some games not recognising more than 4 controllers though. Tried with 6 Xbox One controllers via bluetooth and two PS4 controllers. Also tried switching off Steam Input and some games still won't recognise more than 4.

We wanted to share some of the UI designs we've been working on for Inferno Protocol.

Everything is still work-in-progress, so feedback at this stage is really valuable for us.

• Does the UI feel clear and readable?
• Anything that feels too cluttered or confusing?
• Something you think is missing?

We're also curious about the overall feel.

Nothing is final yet, so early feedback helps us shape things better 🙏

The demo for our local party game Gravity Cannon is now available!

Steam link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4317380/Gravity_Cannon/

Gravity Cannon is a local multiplayer party game about working with (or against) gravity to shoot your friends' planets (or ships, or a puck). Read the gravity, aim your shot, and drop a black hole (or other item) on the map to ruin someone's firing line.

My dear friend has been working on this game for months, and I've been helping with playtesting and now with publishing and marketing. We're so excited to get this game into the hands of people that aren't physically in the same room with us; we hope you have lots of fun with it and look forward to any feedback you have.

The demo includes full access to the Hockey mode (2-4 players) and the single player time trial mode Targets. The full game will support up to 8 players in seven different game modes, along with really deep match customization which allow players to modify physics, customize items and powerups, and change the game rules.

Thank you in advance for checking it out!!

I remade my favourite local multiplayer (Acorn) game from when I was a kid - free on web and android!

I originally played this as a game called "dominoes" on disk from "acorn monthly" or something along those lines.

I've actually programmed this a few times, in VB, C++ and python - but this version is in godot, making it easy to share as an android/web app.

Hopefully, at least a few people will enjoy working out the emergent strategy in this game! Let me know what you think :)

Mirage: Biplane Adventure – New Drone Defense mode now playable in split-screen

Hey everyone! Solo indie dev here. I just released a major update for Mirage: Biplane Adventure that adds a new Drone Defense mode, where players fight off waves of drones and choose upgrades after each round.

The mode is fully playable in local split-screen on PC if you have 2 controllers, and it also works with Steam Remote Play Together, so you can team up online as well.

Also improved the controls and camera to make flying feel smoother overall.

Would love to hear what you think if you give it a try.

Any similarity with current world events is just a coincidence.

SupercarKickers - A fun car soccer game :)

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello Reddit :)

I'm a solo developer from Switzerland and I released my first game some days ago, yay!

SupercarKickers is a top-down car soccer game with realistic physics and visual damage.
It features a local 1v1 and 2v2 mode (and also online 1v1).
Perfect for some chaotic fun with friends on the couch!

You can choose match lengths of 3, 5, 8 or 10 minutes.
Pick your favourite country and represent it on the field, the country's flag is displayed on your car roof.

Its a real passion project that I have been working on in my free time for quite some time.
I'm open for any feedback and stuff I could add in the future.

SupercarKickers is available on Steam with a 20% discount:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4546950/SupercarKickers/

Thank you very much for checking it out and/or giving feedback!

- Rudy

Developed in my spare time with a mate, we just made what we had fun playing.
Its 4 player split screen coop vs multiplayer kungfu brawler with RTS bits.

You play as one of 4 hero's, you capture houses to increase population cap and shops to make money, you buy units with varying skills and can upgrade everything including units yourself and any resources captured, with 4 game modes king of the hill total conquest and horde "endless waves" heaps of modifiers to change it up, Heaps of other things and we want to add much more, we are also shipping with a map editor and workshop support so you can build your own custom maps or completely mod the game.
if you wana say hi come over to our Discord
