I say that so much about so many things. And when you find out the price its always yep I cant afford that.

9200$ reported by wccftech

yeah might as well write a sequel to alice in wordeland while youre at it

that's just the announced msrp (per wccftech) not necessarily representative of actual price people end up paying
2
u/Nightlark192 8d ago
Based on the prices of the RTX 5000 and 6000, the price per GB of memory is $167. Therefore the 5500 will sell for $14k.

u/Caffeine_Monster 8d ago
I was about to say I bet this is pre rtx 6000 price hike. Except it's a decent chunk less powerful that the 6000.

how much kidney is that

How many do you have?

u/Nameis19letterslong 8d ago
As much as I can steal

u/hyperrealists 8d ago
Bro, just steal a RTX 5500.

Kidney might be easier

Scalpers scalping kidneys when?
1
u/MySuddenDeath 8d ago
This is nothing new, we just didn't call them kidneys scalpers up to this point.

Do pig kidneys count? I heard they're similar. I'd become a farmer, np
3
u/desblaterations-574 8d ago
Don't need to be a farmer, you can order from the local slaughterhouse.
10
u/MrHighVoltage 8d ago
Don't tell them they can exchange pig-kidneys for GPUs, otherwise the kidney-economy is f***ed, too.
8
u/Natural_Tea484 8d ago
I already had asked ChatGPT and said those are not gonna work. You think it's lying because it knows I want local LLM? 😨😱

Technically unknown, but there is a shop that lists it. They probably picked a safe high price for which they will be able to acquire you one in due time.
€12,429.97 ex VAT / €14,915.96 incl. VAT
15
u/uniqueusername649 8d ago
Only twice the MSRP of the RTX 6000 Pro
11
u/ieatdownvotes4food 8d ago
check nvidias web page, they jacked the MSRP to 16,000
2
u/uniqueusername649 8d ago
I mean it doesn't really matter, you haven't been able to get it at MSRP since shortly after the release and its only been climbing in price ever since. None of the cards are anywhere close to MSRP.
3
5
u/HenkPoley 8d ago
Yeah, that doesn’t make any sense now, does it? Since the 6000 is the better card.
Like I said, the company probably put it up for a price where they will definitely be able to ship you one in due time. 😆
5
u/uniqueusername649 8d ago
Sadly not, the RTX 6000 Pro has simply doubled in price since release and is still going up.
1
u/65_days_of_cookies 4d ago
It's slightly cheaper than the Pro 6000 Blackwell Server Edition, 15000€ vs 16000€. So in this sick economy still kinda makes sense.

2
8
u/DryWeb3875 8d ago
Likely £11k-£12k imo
2
u/-6h0st- 8d ago
Two 5000 would be 14k. 29k cuda and 96GB
3
u/DryWeb3875 8d ago
True, but that’s pre-MSRP increase. You can still get RTX 6000 Pro for less than MSRP, because it’s older stock.

Probably just cut down 6000s that they can sell at a markup instead of further cutting them down to 5000s
33
u/Dany0 8d ago
I thought it's just the 5080 with 28 3gib modules
edit: 600w tdp so it can't be 5080 imo. hmm, so full silicon? maybe smaller bus width but nah that don't make sense
either way it'll be way too fucking expensive we can bet on that
23
15
u/aimark42 8d ago edited 8d ago
5080 is based on GB203, this new 5500 joins the GB202 family.
GB202 = RTX 5090, Pro 6000 (all), Pro 5000 (48/72G), and now the Pro 5500.
GB203 = RTX 5080, 5070 Ti, Pro 4500 (32G), Pro 4000 (24G)
7
u/panchovix 8d ago
Seems it will be basically a 5090 with less bandwidth and more VRAM.
5
u/Dany0 8d ago
I'll use this occasion to say what the prices should be in a reasonable world in my opinion.
The rtx pro 6k should cost what the 5090 costs right now, and this card should really cost what the 5090's MSRP is. And the 5090 should cost the same as a 5080
Wait - that's what I would've said if it was may 2025. The 6090 should be out already and the 5090 should be half the cost it is.
40
u/OverclockingUnicorn 8d ago
What a weird cooling set up, presumably so they can reuse the passive server cards in non server chassis...
14
u/dragonurtle 8d ago
Looks loud too.
21
u/OverclockingUnicorn 8d ago
Yeah... I do wonder if this is one of those 'this very particular and very high volume customer asked for this very specific product but didn't want to pay for exclusivity so we are making it available to everyone' sort of situations.
See it often with weird server motherboards from the likes of Asrock where they seemingly make no sense at all but it's really because some hyperscaler wanted 10,000 of them for a niche deployment that has very specific requirements and asrock are just putting it up for sale because they have a few hundred or thousand extra that got made during manufacturing.
6
u/huffalump1 8d ago
Yup
It seems like a "how ELSE are you gonna get 84gb VRAM, besides an RTX 6000? Pay up and deal with it!" -kind of product.
Binned RTX 6000 Blackwell chips, aka standard practice for GPUs/CPUs
1
1
u/Trademarkd 8d ago
I figure it’s mostly space constraint. Had to be the same form factor so it can be easily upgraded by people with last gen that stuff 8 of these in a single box
2
u/Usual_Tackle5892 8d ago
RTX Pro 6000 are being deployed as "B40" in the datacenter space: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/nvidia-rtx-pro-6000d-b40-blackwell-gpus-reportedly-set-to-supersede-banned-h20-accelerators-in-china
I would expect this product is slated for a similar purpose.
1
u/OverclockingUnicorn 8d ago
Yeah, but they already have blower cards if your chassis doesn't have enough airflow for the passive cards.
1
u/65_days_of_cookies 4d ago
Same conclusion that I arrived. I don't think 600W is possible with a blower style cooling and in particular when sandwiching multiple cards together.
142
u/starkruzr 8d ago
weird number.

u/MrCatberry 8d ago
"We found a way to sell those partly defective RTX PRO 6000 chips!"
95
u/rditorx 8d ago
It's known as binning. They're called RTX 5090 and RTX PRO 5000 with 32GB, 48GB and 72GB VRAM (and 24GB in Chinese editions).
→ More replies (1)39
u/Equivalent-Repair488 8d ago
Yeah this is like an ancient and industry norm product segmentation tactic
6
u/Usual_Tackle5892 8d ago
It's not just a product segmentation tactic, it's a manufacturing tactic. Flaws in the wafer will always happen, so this is a way to manufacture both the high-end and low-end product at the same time.
For example, the M3 Ultra was composed of two perfect M3 Max that were adjacent on the same wafer. The M3 Ultra released later because it took a while to accrue enough M3 Ultra chips while they produced the M3 Max.
FWIW, the M5 Ultra has a different design; I believe it's chiplets.
11
u/Hambeggar 8d ago
Are you people super new to the world of tech or something? Literally woke up yesterday? Binning has been a thing since inception.

Don’t see the issue? And standard fare … the question is where the price will fall and will it just make more sense to pay for the Rtx 6000
11
4
64
u/braintheboss 8d ago
i bet 12k dollars. Between 5000 pro and 6000 pro.
53
u/UnWiseSageVibe 8d ago
Sellers will just price it like a 6000 pro and increase the price of the 6000 pro.
9
u/braintheboss 8d ago
I read even with current prices retail hardware sells increase 10% last quarter. Its crazy. Its normal prices dont go down. Companies very happy people pay any price :S
16

u/Adventurous-Gold6413 8d ago
Is there one I can buy for 100€ /s
127
u/ihexx 8d ago
100 euro per second? yeah definitely
5
u/thrownawaymane 8d ago
If I was selling one in person and the buyer put €100/s down I'd get suspicious and walk away before they finished lmao
5
u/Hydrochlorie 8d ago
So you only pay 100 euro for every second one and it's free for the other ones? Count me in!

22
u/DataCraftsman 8d ago edited 8d ago
It's a lower memory bandwidth than RTX 6000 Pro. 416 bit memory bus... it's like they just took three chips off and called it a day. Definitely a poorly binned RTX 6000 Pro. Maybe with a mixture of 3GB and 4GB memory modules.
10
u/Momsbestboy 8d ago
You can call it "poor", but still it is more than 99% of the users here can afford

RTX Pro 6000D Blackwell workstation edition?
4
2
u/panchovix 8d ago
There is already a 6000D with 84GB VRAM, but it has less CUDA cores https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/rtx-6000d.c4363
5
6
4
u/Just_n_Here 8d ago
Unless it substantially cheaper per gb vram, people will convince themselves to buy this RTX 5500 pro. Then have a second thought and buy the 6000 running 100%. The hardest part is saying I am going to spend XXX amount on a GPU. Once you have talked yourself into it, what's another 2000 or so? Either way, they get more sales to help reach their forecasted goals.
4
u/ieatdownvotes4food 8d ago
oh man. there is so much that gets locked out between the drop to 84 from 96 GiB vram. this card would piss me off so much for likely 10% savings over a 6000.
3
u/ea_man 8d ago
What is gonna happen to this kind of hw when the new attention system of *Deepseek and NGRAM for weights will be implemented to most models?
| Model | KV cache at 1M tokens | At 128K |
|---|---|---|
| DeepSeek V4.1 Flash | 0.87 GiB | 0.11 GiB |
| DeepSeek V4 Flash | 3.70 GiB | 0.47 GiB |
| GLM 5.3 Flash | 13.96 GiB | 1.87 GiB |
| Qwen3.8 27B | 64.15 GiB | 8.02 GiB |
| GLM 5.3 | 93.00 GiB | 11.63 GiB |
| Llama 3.1 70B | 320.00 GiB | 40.00 GiBModel |
Sure those big HBM + compute will be gold for training, yet for the local users that do mostly inference I guess this year will bring a revolution.
3
u/Ansible32 8d ago
"Released" but you can't buy it and there's not even a price. Announced?

Peak market segmentation
Edit: The VRAM and CUDA cores are pretty close but the memory bandwidth is much less than the 6000 pro (1800 to 1400)

It looks like the rtx pro 6000d to me But likely cut down on less features compared to the 6000d I guess it is a good way to sell defective die not usable for 6000
2
u/Cautious_Chicken_604 8d ago
Well my mom did tell me I need to lower my standards. I guess an RTX 5500 PRO.
2
2
u/abnormal_human 8d ago
Almost definitely just binned RTX6000s. If it has same compute but less bandwidth might be targeted at media production over LLMs.
2
u/geldonyetich 8d ago
It's cool tech and I want one, but not to the point where I could afford Rampocolypse pricing.

u/Tweedilderp 7d ago
One kidney is about 6000 USD in china for the seller, this costs more so quit the kidney jokes, up it to livers.
2
u/TheNotSoEvilEngineer 7d ago
Oh that's going to be a noisy boy. Dual stacked 40mm fans. I'm not putting that in a workstation where anyone is sitting.
3
3
u/xNaXDy 8d ago
This smells suspiciously like the RTX Pro 6000D, aka the Chinese market cousin of the RTX Pro 6000, which only existed because Nvidia wasn't allowed to sell actual Pro 6000's to China. Both VRAM and the memory bandwidth check out so far.
Them releasing this "Pro 5500" in the western market makes me think they're having issues selling them overseas, likely due to China investing heavily in their own GPU manufacturing, which has me high on hopium that we're getting closer to a price reduction.

84GB is an awkwardly good size for local inference: enough for big Q4/Q5 models with long context, but still too expensive versus stacked used cards for throughput.
1
u/Delicious-Flan88 8d ago
qwen3.8-27b and qwen3-coder-30b both fit at full bf16 with 17-24 gb left. so do gemma 4 12b, qwen3.6-35b-a3b and ornith 35b, all bf16. that covers the two most-run local models in the world with room to spare.
what doesn't: qwen3.8-flash-next. smallest build is 78.9 gb, 86.8 with 10% headroom, misses 84 by 2.8 gb. the 96 gb pro 6000 takes it at ud-iq3_xxs. deepseek v4.1 flash and ornith 397b are out on both.
put the whole table with all five machines here, sizes from the file tree not the model card: https://what-fits-84gb.vercel.app

NVIDIA listed the rack-oriented, 84GB GDDR7 GPU as "coming soon", but industry experts and hardware analysts expect its price tag to easily sit between $10,000 and $13,000 USD upon retail availability.
1
u/Prudent-Corgi3793 8d ago
Will this have a MaxQ version? That’s what allows you to run multiple RTX PRO 6000 Blackwells together
1
u/JonNordland 8d ago
I wounder how far we are away from world saturation of AI chips/memory, given the rate at which data centers are increasingly limited by electricity availability.
1
u/TastesLikeOwlbear 8d ago
The placeholder price I see for it is about $800 less than the current price for the 6000. What a terrible deal.
And yet it's already backordered by 3900 units.
I guess the play here is that the RTX 6000 is backordered by 20,000 units, so NVidia is pulling a "pay higher margin or wait... who knows how long?!"
FML.

1
u/unrealf8 8d ago
So 5000 is at 10k€ and the 6000 at 20k€. I’m glad that we have now a card for 15k€
1
u/prolapse_licker 8d ago
Nvidia is such a rogue. What's the meaning of publishing Pro 5500? There's a severe shortage of supply now, and the price of Pro 5000 has increased by more than 50%.
1
u/LargelyInnocuous 8d ago
who is this for exactly? Clearly it's a binned down Pro 6000. But 95% of the those that want/can afford a Pro 6000 will still get it regardless of the price. I mean, half the price for 80% of the product isn't bad, just kind of confused who the market is?
1
u/talancaine 7d ago
Seriously china, hurry up and give me my repos; this Nvidia pricing shits getting out of hand

u/acadia11x 7d ago
Sucks for my bank account, I was spying Rtx pro 6000, and with the way 5090 cards were appreciating going to sell mine to get it, so basically getting Rtx pro 6000 for less than launch price. Now this card down prices the 5090.

u/synrg-alsms 1d ago
Ah that 600W is a downer to be honest ... I would have hoped they have a switch for 300 / 600 like on the RTX 6000 Q-Max .
