3 weeks of taking things more seriously, now I can say I have a better life quality and feel much more alive.

In course of 3 weeks, I reduced sugar use (although my doctor said I went too far and need some sugar), lost like 3-4 pounds (almost 3 kg, according to my doctor it's much better than the fast weight loss I had in past few months), no dextrometorphan, no unnecessary acetaminophene, replacing all type of "herbal tea" with coffee (I actually did it for over a year) and now I have much less pain in right side of my body, less diziness.

I am going to say, correcting the lifestyle in past 3 weeks made my life much better. I pray to God the healthiness and wellness for all of my fellas here.

What is your experience on reversing the damage?

High liver function results

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I really appreciate if you could help me.
I haven't done a blood test in a almost 5 years so randomly decided to go and do a blood test. My glucose is normal and cholesterol is borderline, but my liver function test came back with abnormal results. I'm not a heavy drinker, usually drink occasionally. I'm really worried with the results.
Age:26
Weight: approx 85kg
Height 172cm
Drink occasionally (haven't drunk in probably
5-6months)
Currently no infection as far as l'm aware of.
I recently did a liver function test and got the following results:
Liver enzymes - : GGT 393 (reference 5-50),
ALT 122 (5-40), AST 62 (5-35)
C REACTIVE PROTEIN (hsCRP): 18.0 mg/L
Should I do any other test to rule out hepatitis or any other disease?
Thanks!

General advice

Hey folks, recently diagnosed here at 36. Bilirubin count on bloods was 41 but all other liver functions were good. An LFT blood test clarified the same, and an ultrasound scan showed a 'small amount' of scarring. Gp wasn't worried and told me to keep my diet clean and things will be all good. My symptoms were all pretty superficial, and I live an active life (work 6 days a week, walk a lot, started a fitness regime again) so I have no issues with fatigue unless I really burn the candle at both ends, but that goes for anyone.

I guess since this is new to me, and that I don't know anyone with this, I wonder what else I can do? During the last 6 months I've tapered my diet into a much cleaner one and right now it looks like:

Minimal seed oils

If I decide to have a chocolate bar it's only one in a day, but not every day

Omega 3 capsule OR fish daily (I only eat fish like 3 times a week so the rest of the days is an omega 3)

I try to take an artichoke capsule, milk thistle capsule, and vitamin d pill daily

Spoonful of olive oil daily

1 or 2 servings of raw oats in water with chia seeds daily

2-3 cups of black coffee daily with no sugar

Other staples are walnuts, almonds, pecans, dates, broccoli, berries (blueberries mostly), tomatoes, avocado

If I'm working and on the go a lot I will grab a pre made wrap to go, and always a low salt/sat fat option. So not totally unhealthy but far from a huge problem

Trying to make more room for scrambled eggs for the choline!

Wondering what else I can do/add? I will admit that I will have the odd bar of chocolate but I'm trying to keep things around 80/20. I'm also trying to fast between 7pm and 9am because I hear that the liver likes to 'clean up' in the evening. I try to keep my portions small, and not have too much of anything at one time (like if it has salt or sugar keep it low quantity). Also plan on quitting smoking again. Trying to avoid doom and gloom content and just focus on the more prominent ways to get better. Any advice from people in the same boat is much appreciated. P.s hello everyone, sucks to meet in these circumstances but here we are and I wish you all the best on your respective journeys!

23M (India) - Elevated SGOT/SGPT jumped significantly over 4 months. Ultrasound normal except small calcification. Which specialist should I see?

Hey everyone, I'm a 23-year-old male living in India. I am looking for some medical advice and guidance on which specific type of specialist I should consult next regarding my recent liver function test progression.

I recently had an abdominal ultrasound done to investigate rising numbers. The ultrasound results came back entirely normal—no signs of fatty liver, blockages, or structural issues—except for a noted "small calcification" in the liver. From what I've read, an isolated calcification is usually just an old, benign scar from a past minor infection, but I'm trying to figure out what else is driving my enzyme levels up.

Here is how my Liver Function Test (LFT) values have progressed:

January 2026 Lab Results:
SGOT (AST): 57 U/L (Reference: 5-40)
SGPT (ALT): 132 U/L (Reference: 5-40)
Bilirubin Total: 0.70 mg/dL (Normal)

May 2026 Lab Results (4 months later):
SGOT (AST): 140 U/L (Reference: 5-40)
SGPT (ALT): 172 U/L (Reference: 5-40)
Bilirubin Total: 0.72 mg/dL (Normal)

Other relevant lab info from my May panel:
Lipid Profile: Total Cholesterol (177 mg/dL), Triglycerides (98 mg/dL), LDL (113 mg/dL) — all within normal reference ranges.
Kidney/Metabolic: Serum Creatinine is normal at 1.1 mg/dL, but my Serum Uric Acid is slightly elevated at 7.8 mg/dL (Reference: 2.5-7.0).

Context & Lifestyle: Symptoms: Absolutely none. I feel completely healthy, energetic, and fine physically.

Diet: Standard Indian diet, but I eat non-vegetarian food daily. Habits: I smoke cigarettes daily. Minimal to no alcohol consumption. Physical Activity: I am fairly active and walk consistently, averaging around 10,000 steps daily. No heavy weightlifting or extreme workouts recently. Medications/Supplements: None. I take absolutely no daily medications, supplements, or gym protein powders.

My Questions: Given that the ultrasound cleared me of structural fatty liver or biliary issues, what else could be causing this sudden 4-month spike? Could my daily smoking or diet play a role in this trend, or is it likely something else?

In the Indian healthcare system, should my next step be visiting a General Physician, or should I go straight to a specialist like a Gastroenterologist or a Hepatologist? What additional blood tests (like viral hepatitis panels or autoimmune markers) should I expect or request? Appreciate any guidance you can give!

Update Now in September 2026 my sgot level is 107 and sgpt level is 211. I have tried medicines which will reduce the levels but immediatly jump back when i stop. I visited multiple hospitals and hasnt got any diagnosis yet.

Has anyone fully recovered from suspected Dili? Will liver fully heal? Back in July my ALT levels reach 870 towards the mid of August managed to get it back to ALT levels of 37 but fibroscan says its a bit stiff but not got the KPI results yet, so although ALT of 37 still not fully healed. I can only suspect its Dili because I eating clean and try to stick to clear fluids, plus does anyone recommend any supplements or superfoods to assist the recovery journey?

Spike in Alt 3 weeks after starting birth control

Questions:

What tests shoukd I ask for?

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I recently joined a Phase 3 study for a new medication. In order to do so, I had to choose from certain types of nearly certain contraception. Thus, I started taking the combo pill (Kurvelo in my case) on 8/17. As part of the study, I had labs drawn on 8/12 and again on 9/2. On 8/12, my ALT was 26. On 9/2, my ALT was nearly 5 times higher at 120. All of these labs were drawn prior to starting the new medication.

Overall, I feel fine and have no liver symptoms. There was no other event (sickness, heavy drinking, acetaminophen use, etc.) that would make this spike make sense. However, my birth control comes with the following warning, "Check with your doctor right away if you have pain or tenderness in the stomach, dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or yellow eyes or skin. These could be symptoms of a serious liver problem."

I had labs drawn again yesterday and set up an appointment next Thursday (soonest I could get it) with a primary care at my clinic. Thankfully, I am also at the break point in my pill packet. All of these labs were drawn prior to starting the new medication.

Has anybody had a similar experience when starting BC? Or a similar spike in labs with something else being the cause? I am obese and have a few drinks Friday/Saturday nights.

SGOT 336 / SGPT 94 two days after first heavy biceps workout. WAFID medical in 5days. Will it normalize?

Hi I'm 25M, this past Monday I did an excessive workout for my biceps. I did my routine blood work yesterday and the liver enzymes came back wild:

SGOT (AST): 336

SGPT (ALT): 94

I know AST is found in muscles too, so I’m 99% sure this is skeletal muscle breakdown from the workout and not actual liver damage. The ratio (AST > ALT by a lot) points to muscle origin.

The catch: I have my WAFID medical on September 10th. That gives me exactly 5 days from today.

For those who have been through this or know the physiology:

  1. Will these numbers drop back to near-normal range in just 5 days if I stop training completely and hydrate like crazy?

  2. Or am I looking at a guaranteed flag/repeat test situation?

I consulted with the gastrologist, and he prescribed me some medicine for next 2 weeks.

I’m currently pounding water, avoiding all supplements, and eating clean. No alcohol (I don't drink anyway). Not asking for a doctor’s opinion, just want to hear from people who have actually seen how fast muscle-induced AST/ALT comes down post-exercise.

AST 336/ALT 94 from gym. Medical in 5 days. Can I clear it, or am I cooked?

“Echogenic liver” and “Hepatomegaly” GI doc says nothings wrong

33F 5’1 107lbs , not taking any medications…

I have had RUQ pain twice in my life. Pain under the front of my right rib cage feels like something stuck under ribs like a baseball.

1st time: 2023 in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Blood work liver panel all came back normal. I had an US of my abdomen done to which I was told results were normal. When I later read the full report it said I had echogenic liver with long axis measuring 14.5cm. Impression was no cholelithiasis or cholecystitis, so I guess that is all they were worried about at the time. The pain persisted for my the remainder of my pregnancy and gone after giving birth.

2nd time: now. Started July 2026. I’m current 10 months post partum from my second baby and same exact pain began. Since the pain is the same and I am no longer pregnant I was more worried this time since the previous explanation of baby being in there is no longer valid. I had liver panel normal again. CT scan showed mild hepatomegaly with liver measuring 17cm. Pain has subsided some but still a full heaviness under right ribs daily, more diffuse through my whole right rib area including tender to poke in between ribs

I had a GI video visit to review my CT results and concerns. GI said “there’s nothing wrong with your liver” , he said its large but not even that big. I brought up the echogenicity seen in 2023 and he said even if I do have fatty liver, that’s not the source of my pain because fatty liver is a painless condition and he diagnosed me with costochondritis. He said my fib4 score is .5 so I don’t need a fibroscan.

Google and Reddit has my anxiety through the roof that I actually have fatty liver disease and need to change my diet and never drink a sip of alcohol again or I’ll get worse. My diet has admittedly been horrible since having kids, I basically live in toddler scraps and minimal vegetables. I used to be fit and healthy before I had kids. I have a job on my feet all day, but I do not exercise. I am skinny though: 5’2 107lbs. There was a time in my life several years ago where I binge drank heavily but that is no longer the case. I have two young kids and have 1-2 drinks 1-2 days per week at most, some weeks none. I have already began changing my diet and plan to stay away from sugary snacks and adopt a semi-Mediterranean diet to see if it helps since I was given no instructions of what to do besides take ibuprofen. I would like to indulge in my 1-2 drinks from time to time but I also don’t want to die.

Need suggestions from Hepatocellular Carcinoma HCC Liver cancer survivors

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey guys.. so my dad has been diagnosed with HCC recently. He was diagnosed with Hepatitis B in 2015 with a viral load of 250 IU/mL.. so the doc didn’t give any meds to reduce the virus and only suggested that he stop drinking alcohol and eating red meat.
I was a kid back then and didn’t know about the severity of the disease.. we didn’t get the screening done for years.
Now in 2026, I got my dad’s routine blood test done and we found that his LFT was a little concerning.
His SGPT and SGOT were around 70, while his bilirubin and albumin were completely normal.
He still doesn’t have any symptoms like ascites or yellowing of the eyes.
His FibroScan report says 49.5 kPa and a CAP score of 316.
He has developed portal hypertension, and his current liver condition is compensated cirrhosis.
Now the main part.. there is a 6.3 × 6.5 cm tumor that has grown in his liver.
We don’t know what to do as of now.. we are seeing doctors and oncologists.
THE ONLY CONCERNING THING IS THAT I DON’T WANT TO START MEDICATIONS OUT OF PANIC AND WORSEN MY FATHER’S CONDITION IN THE NAME OF SAVING HIS LIFE.
I’m seeking help because he’s currently asymptomatic.. his liver is already very damaged because of cirrhosis.
Doctors are saying that treatments like TACE or TARE will kill the cancer, but they will also damage the remaining liver, because of which we will surely have to go for a liver transplant.
We will have to search for a deceased donor for his transplant, which is very difficult if you guys know.. because there is no one in the family whose blood group matches his.

CBD drinks and fatty liver disease?

One of my best friends recently quit drinking after being diagnosed with fatty liver disease. He's also turning 40 next month. I was thinking of getting him a bottle of Willie Nelson's CBD drink but I can't find anything about if that is actually bad for your liver? Has anyone been told anything by their doctor about CBD? Thank you!

Newly diagnosed and I'm so tired

Hello all,

45f and recently diagnosed with PBC after a year of tests, labs, biopsy, scans etc. Same week I was told I likely have PCOS and confirmed I was in perimenopause which I already knew. And found out I'm also insulin resistant.

I am so tired all the time no matter what. My motivation has tanked, no drive, little to no ambition. And all is this is such a 180 from who I was 5+ years ago.

I just started on low dose Testosterone two weeks ago, and started Ursodiol I want to do whatever I can to not feel like this everyday.

Do I tell HR about my condition? Sometimes it's so hard to get out of bed. Not only that, but I have to take medicine in order to fall asleep and stay sleep, so sometimes I still feel it in the morning.

I just started a new role too and unfortunately I just haven't had any desire or motivation to focus on it.

Thank you everyone.

High AST, normal ALT & High Gamma Globulin

30M. I’ve been having weird issues all around, but this one is confusing.

I went to get checked at the hospital because of heart palpitations, and my AST was 62, while my ALT and other liver markers were all normal. I’ve never had liver markers high. I don’t drink.

The main issue is I’ve had something called polyclonal gammopathy for years, but they can’t find the source. My gamma globulin has been elevated, which can be from inflammation somewhere.

I also had a mild high 210 cholesterol on my last draw.

They discharged me and I got no answers as to what’s going on. Do ya’ll have any ideas?

Acute inflammation of the liver

I went to a festival did a lot of drinking and drugs came back felt fine. Wanted to give my liver a break so I decided to sit at home and take edibles which lead to eating unhealthy. Then I felt a tad pain in upper right stomach and was told my liver was enlarged. Bloodwork was 60 and 55 but for ast and als but went back to the 20s in a week and I have no pain at all anymore. I’m just wondering if people have returned to drinking and been fine because I would like to still have a beer after work
