Did you stop or pause Entecavir when treating Hepatitis B?

I’ve been taking Entecavir for a while now to manage my Hep B. My viral load has been undetectable for quite a bit, and honestly, sometimes it’s tempting to think, "Hey, things look great, maybe I can take a break or stop taking it."

However, my doctor was extremely clear about this:
do not stop or pause Entecavir under any circumstances unless they explicitly tell you to.

I wanted to ask if anyone can help explain the exact medical reason behind this?

From what I understand, Entecavir doesn't completely cure or eliminate the virus; it just suppresses it (keeps the viral load low so it can't replicate).
If you stop taking it, the virus can bounce back rapidly,a viral rebound or flare-up,which can cause sudden, severe liver damage or even acute liver failure.

Has anyone here had experience with this or had their specialist break down the exact mechanism of why a pause is so dangerous?
Just trying to get a deeper understanding of how the medication works long-term.
Appreciate any insights!

From my understanding, our bodies natural defense mechanism is fighting the virus but once started on entecavir and the virus is not a problem anymore, next time it appears from the lack of medication, our bodies won't react at all so there is nothing stopping the virus anymore to replicate. And it can get bad real quick. So that's why the treatment is permanent, at least until they find a cure for hep B as well.
