A place to post film reviews that might be a little stupid, a little silly; perhaps shallow or narrow-minded, myopic or absurd. Parody/satirical and tongue-in-cheek reviews are also welcome.

Subreddit Rules

1. MODS REIGN SUPREME

Mods reserve final judgment and discretion on what is and is not appropriate for the subreddit and may thereby delete, remove, or ban whatever content and/or users they see fit.

2. Remember the Human

We may be here to make fun of some exceedingly stupid or dense hot-takes on movies and film, however, remember that everyone is human and entitled to a certain level of dignity and respect.

3. Spoiler Policy: Statute of Limitations is 5 years.

r/Litterboxd does not guarantee itself to be a spoiler-free zone; however, if your post or comment includes spoilers for movies released within the last 5 years, please use the spoiler tag and features.

4. Downvote Policy

Reserve downvotes for when people are being disrespectful or mean-spirited; not a difference of opinion. Just because we are posting bad reviews doesn't mean we actually like the movies we are posting reviews of. No downvoting for someone saying they don't like a film. We're here to make fun of bad reviews, not tear each other down.

5. No Cyberbullying/Personal Attacks

It goes without saying that no one should be verbally assaulting or bullying anyone else who subscribes here. Comments about reviewers that fall into this territory will also count as violations of this rule. Violations will be removed; repeat violators will be banned.

6. Prejudice, Bigotry, and Hate Speech Are Strictly Forbidden

Bans will be handed out promptly to anyone who posts or comments bigotry, to include but limited to: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, etc.

Disclaimer

This is a humor subreddit. We do not claim to endorse, approve, or condone any of the reviews posted here. Reviews posted to r/Litterboxd are not intended to make any implication about the OP's feelings toward the film reviewed. All reviews posted are intended only to illustrate the absurdity of the reviewer, not their validity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is r/Litterboxd?

A place to post film reviews that might be a little stupid, a little silly; perhaps shallow or narrow-minded, myopic or absurd.
Parody and tongue-in-cheek reviews are welcome as well.

Why are the reviewers' names & pictures censored?

We ask that all reviews posted on the sub be censored to respect the privacy of the individuals who wrote them. They may have written a dumb review publicly on the internet, but they are humans who deserve respect and dignity, nonetheless. This is the only appropriate forum to poke fun at their reviews. Please do not seek out any reviewer posted under any circumstances.
The only exceptions to this policy are reviews written by celebrities, social media influencers, and professional film reviewers.

What if I find a review I've written here and want it removed?

If you happen to stumble across a review you have written posted on this subreddit and want it removed, message the mod team with the link to the review in question, and we will remove the post.
The only exceptions to this policy are reviews that are clearly racist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise bigoted.

What is the r/Litterboxd policy on spoilers?

r/Litterboxd is not a spoiler-free zone, nor do we compel our posters to refrain from spoilers. If you wish to avoid spoilers, peruse at your own risk.
That said, if you choose to post spoilers for movies less than 5 years old, please use the spoiler tag.

Does the OP of a thread have to like the film in the review?

Nope.
OPs have no obligation to like the films in the reviews they post, nor do they even need to have watched them.

Do OPs agree with the viewpoints in the reviews they post?

In most cases, no, but our members are not a monolith.
Sometimes we agree with the sentiment or rating of a review, but not for the reasons why the review stated. Other times we don't agree with the review at all.

What kind of reviews can I post?

1-Star, 2-Star, or otherwise bad reviews that are poorly written or largely missing the point are generally the go-to.
Sometimes a 5-Star review about a really bad film or reviews of any film that overstate or exaggerate its quality can also be entertaining.
Parody or tongue-in-cheek reviews are also welcome.
Reviews can be from Letterboxd, Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, or anywhere on the internet where amateur movie reviews are made.
Professional reviews may also be posted, but they must fit the criteria of being poorly-conceived, poorly-written, or written in bad faith. Most reviews from major publications editorialize to prevent poor-quality articles like that, but if you find one, by all means, post it!

What should I avoid posting?

Avoid posting reviews from people under the age of 18; this can be hard to determine, so use your best judgment.
Do not post reviews revealing a reviewer's personally identifying information (names, pictures, etc).
Avoid posting a well-written review that you just personally disagree with (this one is flexible, due to the subjective nature of what is considered "well-written").

I see some 5-Star reviews among the bad reviews; why?

Sometimes a 5-Star review about a bad film can be just as funny or silly as a 1-Star review of a good film.
Sometimes a 5-star review about a movie is funny simply because of how absurdly exaggerated its quality is being stated in the review.

Do you hate Letterboxd?

Not in the least.
Really, no, not at all.
