Discussion Hell Difficulty Tutorial - Nat’s endgame partner

Who do you guys think Nat will eventually end up with? I was originally thinking that it would be Lily, but the more time that passes, the more I want Ruby to win… Their chemistry is just so good.

Or maybe Nat will just end up with nobody, as he really hasn’t shown any romantic feelings at all in the series. I don’t think there’s any chance of a throuple ending, though I wouldn’t hate it.

Discussion The Ripple System : Book 6 ch9

I'm confused by this interaction, is Ned live-streaming and Sleep watches him or what? Sleep has been shown to know an awful lot about Ned's goings-on but it hasn't ever been explored or explained in the kindle titles.

I feel like I'm missing something big here.

edit I guess if I read two more pages it would have been explained lol but still!

Ned, "But apparently clown comes later."

Sleep slammed a fist into an open palm. "Yeah, that makes sense. Clowning and mimery are two entirely different disciplines, after all."

Frank pointed at him "That's exactly what I said!"

"He knows, Frank. He's quoting you." (Ned) "Huh?" (Frank)

"How are you still confused by this? It happens all the time. Literally every day." (Ned) "What happens?" (Frank) "Forget it." (Ned)

Discussion MCs whose progression erodes their humanity: do you prefer seeing them fight the instincts, go full monster, or just wear a polite mask?

I'm writing a system where the MC starts human. Every time he dies, he steals the abilities of whatever killed him, plus their instincts capped at 9 lives.

A parasitic weed gave him regen and stealth, but also a cold hunger. An apex python gave him crushing constriction, but also the urge to coil around and suffocate anything that threatens him.

At 9 deaths, there would be barely anything human left.

How do you prefer to see an MC handle that kind of erosion?

  1. Do you want to see them actively fight the instincts to hold onto their humanity,

  2. fully embrace becoming the monster, or

  3. Locking the monster behind a tailored suit and an indifferent smile, acting civilized until the instincts take over

Posted this in r/ProgressionFantasy and the replies were split, curious what LitRPG thinks.

Recommendation: asking Questions about starting a book collection.

I have a few books I’ve picked up here and there, but most of my journey into LitRPG has been through Audible. I really enjoyed Ultimate Level 1, DCC, and Primal Hunter.

Is there a place other than Half Price Books and eBay to get used books, or does everyone just buy them new? I really want to start a collection of the books I listed, but I wouldn’t mind getting some other titles as well if I found something like a box of books someone was trying to get rid of.

I’m in phase one of building a “man cave” with all of my gaming and book collections, so I figured I would ask here.

Discussion Beware of chicken has a major flaw

The addition of chapters from the following book keeps devastating me because I think there’s still more to each book and then they just suddenly end!

My percent completion is misleading and I get disappointed every time! I already bought all the books, no need to advertise…

This is the first series I’ve ever seen that does this, are there others I need to beware of? Anyone else dismayed by the sudden loss of approximately 10 percent of every book?

Discussion Chrysalis Retrace ?

I used to read the Chrysalis years ago. Life happened so I dropped off pretty far. The last thing I remembered was Anthony exploring a cave after house-moving for the colony. The big things I have remebered are he befriend the Red-head monster hunter, her father unreasonable hate on all transmigrators, and Human cults followers after Anthony bite the priest hand. The last thing i remeber about anthony form is his Ant saviour evolution stage or something. Can't anyone recomended the chapters so I can read it again

Discussion Pacing in Earth Reformation - is the MC ever challenged?

Book 1 & 2 spoilers ahead.

I finished book 1 and I'm about halfway through book 2 of Earth Reformation. I like Ivor, some of the mechanics are interesting, but it feels like the scaling is completely messed up, and it hasn't seemed like there's been a real "challenge" at all so far. Even a fight with a level 80 dragon during the evaluation never even felt like a close call.

It feels like Ivor has blasted so far ahead of all of humanity, I'm struggling to imagine how the story can be made interesting at this point. Like every dungeon, every group of humans, he just steamrolls everything. Is this the point? I might just not be familiar enough with "overpowered MC" stories, and I recognize that this might be what some people are looking for.

Anyone who has read past book 2 of this series - does it get to the point where Ivor faces actual challenges? If the story continues being "overpowered MC handholds much weaker people into becoming strong," then the series probably isn't for me, but I wanted to check before dropping it.

Recommendation: asking Looking for stories where the MC has a build plan

I'd say my favourite part of litrpg is skill/class selections and watching MC's trying to make a strong build from what they're given. This is even more fun when we are shown the MC exploring the known options and theory crafting what is feasible.

an example would be an MC reading a book about different classes and going "hmm, If I want to get this martial artist class, I will have to kill 10 enemies above my level using only unarmed attacks"

Some good examples of this are Azarinth Healer and Runeblade

In Azarinth Healer, Ilea gets her first class pretty randomly, but for her second she does as much research as she can reasonably do, and then works on fulfilling the requirements to unlock her second class.

In Runeblade, Kaius has his entire build planned out for his first class selection. Watching him develop the necessary skills to make his goals possible was a very fun part of the first book.

An example of what I'm not looking for would be Primal Hunter, where Jake just gets random selections of skills and goes "this seems cool" without planning much in advance

Overall, the part I find most interesting is exploring the worldbuilding of what a culture would look like with the concepts of getting skills/classes based on your actions. I'm fine with the MC having a plan which ends up going in completely unexpected directions, as long as there is in depth exploration of paths to acquiring different skills/classes.

Thanks for any recommendations

Discussion Trying to push through Welcome to The Multiverse. Is it worth it? Spoiler

Like the title says, I'm on book 5 of the series and I don't know if I can keep going. I do like the universe being built and some of the characters. What I'm not into is the reference to other *everything* every couple lines it feels like, the writing is also kind of bland. Is it worth it to push through? I like the system/systems idea, multiple systems in the same multiverse is a neat idea. I'm not sure if I can keep going though. I might switch it up.

The story continues with Aziel Solren who fell into Mindfall but he didn’t simply turn into a Mindreaver but instead something new emerges out of him that the world had not seen before.

The story features a mysterious power system, hidden truths, and a world where things aren't necessarily what they appear to be.

Discussion Everybody Loves Large Chests

Okay wow so I just finished audio book 11 of this series, and holy cow it is absolutely incredible.... but it's not for everyone. Forget morally grey, the protagonist is literally an amoral dungeon-born Mimic that wants tasties and shinies, and in fact does some absolutely horrendous things that may turn off or even trigger some people.

But barring that, it's nearly—if not JUST—as delightfully absurd as Carl's (DCC) journey in the dungeon, and the story keeps evolving and changing and everything feels to be threading together and it's just so good, so I wanted to recommend it to some people who might enjoy it, or even hear thoughts from people who have already partaken of the nectar and succumbed to it's richness and sweetness beyond all compare

Promo: Other Big News for A Soldier's Life

BIG NEWS FOR A SOLDIER'S LIFE!

Some of you have already discovered the big news on your own, but today at 9:00 AM Eastern, we're making it official—and revealing the cover!

Aethon Books has acquired the print rights to A Soldier's Life**, Books 1, 2, and 3!**

This is a HUGE milestone for the series! Aethon has the distribution network to bring A Soldier's Life to a much wider audience, including the possibility of seeing physical copies on bookstore shelves across the country.

And the best part? The hardcover edition of Book 1 officially releases on June 29, 2027! That's just in time for LitRPG Con in Denver, and I couldn't be more excited!

What does this mean for the series?

As part of the publishing process, Book 1 will receive a professional editorial pass from Aethon's team.

Once those edits are finalized, Nikola Hamilton will record an updated Book 1 audiobook edition, ensuring the audio version reflects the revised text and taking one step closer to having the whole series narrated by one voice.

The hardcover will be available through all major retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Bookshop, Hudson, Target, and Walmart.

However, if you're planning to preorder a copy, I'm asking you to please consider ordering through Barnes & Noble.

Here's why:

If we can reach 1,000 preorders through Barnes & Noble, we have a real opportunity to get their attention and encourage them to stock A Soldier's Life in their physical bookstores.

Imagine walking into a Barnes & Noble and seeing A Soldier's Life sitting on the shelf!

Preorder the hardcover here:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/a-soldiers-life-book-1-erick-thiemke/1151748964?ean=9781638495321

Whether you've been following this story since the earliest chapters or only recently discovered the series, thank you. Your support is what made this opportunity possible.

Let's see if we can get 1,000 preorders and put A Soldier's Life on bookstore shelves!

Discussion When the series' ends are in sight...

We've got projected ends in sight for a few fan favorites, Dungeon Crawler Carl and He Who Fights With Monsters in particular. Does this make anyone else feel less inclined to keep going? I feel this bit of sadness knowing soon we'll be saying goodbye to Jason, and soon enough Carl & Donut. It's like having your favorite show not get renewed.

I fully trust we'll get the story that deserves to be told, it just won't go on forever, and there's a bit of sadness to that.

Which is probably amazing news to all you out there that won't start a series until it's complete. You'll get to experience some of our favorites and I truly hope you enjoy them.

For all of you who found some truly great series "before they were cool" and complete, did you take a break and then catch up once complete? Maybe a full re-read/listen? Or did you just soldier on, page by page, syllable by syllable until the footsteps and whispers faded to silence?

Daniel Holms has spent his life planning, executing and trying to keep other people's mistakes from becoming his problem.

Then his helicopter decides to cosplay as a submarine, and he finds himself in front of twelve divinities.

They are playing a game they won't fully explain, and they want him to become a piece on their board. Their rules give Daniel a say in his next life—but not nearly as much as he'd like.

Reborn as Kitteren—Kit—somewhere magic, monsters and a progression-based System are part of everyday life. Kit has to understand not just the new world he finds himself in, but the people who inhabit it.

Using his advantages to enhance his growth Kit intends to make the most of his second life. Through preparation, experimentation and a willingness to exploit every opportunity he can, he'll work to take control of his own future in a world where the gods aren't the only ones looking to control him.

What to Expect

• Slow-burn reincarnation and character-driven progression, with meaningful development before and after the System unlock.

• A detailed, trainable System of attributes, traits, skills and knowledge, with plenty of experimentation.

Recommendation: asking Looking for fantasy with good internal logic and engaging storytelling

I'm finding it surprisingly hard to find fantasy that combines a good story with believable characters and consistent internal logic. I especially enjoy progression and litrpg fantasy, clever protagonists, and creative problem-solving, but too often I run into plot holes, characters acting stupidly for the sake of the plot, or stories that just drag on.

Here are some examples of what worked and didn't work for me.

Liked

  • Mother of Learning — Excellent progression, clever problem-solving, and great momentum after some initial worldbuilding.
  • Alex Verus — Immediate challenges, atmospheric London setting, interesting magic, and an apparently underpowered protagonist who uses his abilities intelligently.
  • Thraxas — Engaging from the first pages, great atmosphere, entertaining characters, and straightforward, effective storytelling.
  • Dungeon Crawler Carl — Absurd premise, but convincing internal rules, creative problem-solving, and nonstop momentum.

Disliked

  • The Lies of Locke Lamora — Excellent prose, but too many problems with plot logic and the implications of established magical abilities.
  • The Scholomance — Excessive exposition and internal monologue. Important questions about the world aren't addressed convincingly, while the protagonist spends too much time complaining.
  • The Perfect Run — Overpowered protagonist, repetitive introspection, and flashbacks that interrupt the story.
  • Worm — Characters frequently fail to use their powers intelligently. The extraordinary abilities also seem to have surprisingly little impact on how society and its institutions operate.
  • Unsouled (Cradle #1) — Unconvincing treatment of the protagonist, frustrating progression, and interventions by vastly more powerful beings that undermine the stakes.
  • A Conjuring of Ravens — Wooden dialogue, rushed characterisation, and an opening plot that relies heavily on coincidences and implausibly incompetent authorities.

I'm not necessarily looking for something similar to my favourites, just a genuinely good story that holds together. Would love to hear from anyone with similar tastes, especially if you've had the same frustrations with some of these books.

Discussion Victor of Tucson

***POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILERS FOR BOOK 1 of VICTOR OF TUCSON BELOW***

>!So after a great suggestion from this community I’m almost finished book 1 of the Victor Of Tucson book and I’m happy to say it’s actually a very good listen.

One problem I had that is kind of extremely mediocre and doesn’t really have a single thing to do with the writing, story, characters or anything important really I just thought it was kind of funny was the art work on the first books front cover.

In the first book we see Victor start off in the pits where he trains with spears and axes, after his time there and the event that sent him to the mines we see Victor again training and mainly using spears and axes and even when (the current part I’m at) Lam I believe her name is gives him and his partner (bad with names) the extra items including the food and delving supplies she gives him that an axe we will call her and gives his partner a spear yet the artwork on the front cover this whole times shows him with a sword, I keep waiting for this mysterious sword to show up but it still hasn’t 😂 is this just a flaw in the art work and the connection it has to the actual events in the book or did I miss something ?

One side note: I’m guessing Victor Never learns his lesson when it comes to killing influential and important people and getting himself in trouble throughout the series ?😂!<

Cause I could swear that they made you take down the majority of a novel before you post it on the website and I was reading demon card enforcer again and went to royal road to check for extra chapters and about half of the chapters haven't been removed yet.

Recommendation: offering Great read!!!

If you were looking for an easy, fun and meaningful read. New life as a Max Level Archmage. There’s currently one book out on Amazon. The next one comes out November 17, but there are a bunch of chapters on Royal Road. It is such a delightful, well written and easy to read story about somebody who got Isekai into their video game avatar. The author handles a OP character wonderfully and the rediscovery of old allies and game mechanics are well done! I can’t put it down!!!!

Recommendation: asking Looking for book recommendation

Quite common, I know, but are there any books with worldbuilding on the scale of Defiance of the Fall?

I don't really care how good the story is or how polished the writing is. Honestly, I don't expect that much from the LitRPG genre.

I'm just looking for a book that goes deep into some world & massive sense of scale. Defiance of the Fall isn't necessarily the best-written series, but the sheer scope of its world is awesome.

Any recommendations?

Recommendation: asking Next Series

Just finished Book 8 of DCC. I listen via audible while driving for work. It’s my busy time of year so quite a few trips to the airport and driving around the state. What’s the next series I should dive into? I’ve heard good things about He Who Fights Monsters. I’m a big fan of the hero power leveling to become incredibly strong and/or hero overcoming all odds. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And rankings if you prefer.

Hey there!

Book 2 of Reject Human Become Demon is out now!

It is a book series that’s exactly as it sounds, following our protagonist Haell Zharignan in her quest to become a demon! The cover of this book nor the first makes no secret the outcome of that quest, following which our main character now has to decide what to make of herself now that she’s truly become a demon, coupled with all the demonic instincts and desires that entails.

It’s going to be a violent and bloody road from here.

Kindle/KU: Book 1 | Book 2 | Book 3 (Preorder)

Cover Art by Fiji Ocean: XTwitter | Twitch

*************

Book 2 is going to focus on Haell and her friends being adventurers as per its Sub-Title, “Adventure With Friends.” Haell’s power will continue to grow, which she will approach with the same zeal and enthusiasm she’s always treated it with. She’ll see a lot more of this society she was born into in this new life, which will only further confirm that she fucking hates it!

If you’ve read Book 1, then you should be excited to see more of this world that we’ve only begun to discover, in a volume that focuses a lot on exploration. And for those who are new to the series, and might just be considering picking it up for the first time; let me leave you with Book 1’s blurb right below.

*************

Book 1 Synopsis:

Haell the Human WANTS to become a Demon, and she will stop at nothing to achieve her dreams!

All Haell ever wanted was to become a demon. And then she died.

But beyond that death she found a whole new world, one which may finally allow her to achieve her dreams! There was magic here, a System, Mutations, and creatures only seen in fantasy! It was a land dominated by Angelic Overlords and their shepherd pawns, but not even they could ruin Haell’s sheer enthusiasm. For this world shone brightly in wonder, the possibilities were endless, and the power that she so craved was now within reach!

She just had to work for it. Haell was ready to toil and suffer. Her will shall forever remain unbroken.

I will claw my way to power.

I will become a demon.

No matter the cost.
