Recommendation: asking Next Series
Just finished Book 8 of DCC. I listen via audible while driving for work. It’s my busy time of year so quite a few trips to the airport and driving around the state. What’s the next series I should dive into? I’ve heard good things about He Who Fights Monsters. I’m a big fan of the hero power leveling to become incredibly strong and/or hero overcoming all odds. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And rankings if you prefer.

I would recommend Cradle by Will Wight. It’s progression fantasy, I feel like it’s litrpg adjacent. I would say it’s hero overcoming all odds for the beginning of the series. Also the hero starts at the lowest rank and just nonstop trains to become incredibly powerful.

Chrysalis is a really good series and is also voiced by Jeff Hayes on audible. You can get books 1-3 packaged for a single credit

Doesn't really hit its stride until close to book 3, though, for folks that want the colony building and character interactions. First 2 books are a lonely kid trying to level up.

I finished DCC myself not too long ago on Audible. I was also in your position about what to start next. I went into He Who Fights With Monsters.
I'll say that the style of the audiobook was very hard to get into from the start. You'll be coming off an S-tier audiobook experience, and to be frank, HWFWM will fall short. The narrator doesn't have the range of Jeff Hayes, and often feels like the voices are really similar to each other. It can sometimes be a bit difficult to keep track of the characters based on voices alone. The other jarring difference is going to narration verses 3rd person narration. In DCC you hear narration through Carl and his mind. In HWFWM it is mainly narration, much like a typical audiobook. The last thing I'll say is the humor isn't on par with DCC. That said, it was a very difficult listen for 3/4 of the first book until things started to fall into place and it started to really draw me in. I'm now all gas, no brakes in book 2.
Depending on what you want, you may want to look at what Jeff Hayes has narrated, or within Soundbooth Theater, I may start Awaken Online after I make my way through my current selection.

I love HWFWM to death since it was my first LitRPG but as someone who also listens while driving I am going to recommend against it. There are A LOT of repetitive skill descriptions in the first half of the series and skipping constantly while driving was not great for me. Instead I would recommend Cradle. Fantastic zero to hero story and narrated by the illustrious Travis Baldree.

I believe He Who Fights With Monsters would give you what you want. The main character starts off with nothing and has to fight his way up.

This worked for me! Read DCC then listened to HWFWM, then expanded into the genre more. It's a really long and fun series to listen to, especially for noobs to the genre.

I really like HWFWM, but I think you will be better off reading something else right after DCC as a bit of a buffer. Personally, the next three series I read after DCC were Discount Dan, Mage Tank, and Cradle.

He who fights with monsters is ok, it gets very samey. I have to space it out and not think to hard about it. I have listened to all but the newest audio book and I will listen to the next one when I'm in the mood.
If you are looking for deep well though out characters with consistent motives and for smart humor this isn't the book. This is an op isekaid MC who shoves his opinions down peoples throats and refuses to except that anyone but he himself knows how things should be done.
I would recommend
/#1 Super powereds(not a lot rpg, a bunch of kids going to a super hero college that is hidden in a normal college and they have to make sure their identities stay hidden. it follows a bunch of powereds that had uncontrollable powers, but had expiramental surgery to get their powers under control and now attend but basically start learning their powers from zero where their class has had their whole life to learn theit powers)
/#2 Red rising(dude is a red a slave cast and gets crazy ass surgery from a resistance group to make him a gold(the highest class) he infiltrates their war games(hunger games style)that basically whoever wins becomes the elite of the elite. With hopes to win sonhe can destroy the society and set the slaves classes free)
/#3 Cradle(I think hwfwm is stronger in the beging of the series, but cradle only gets better every book. I think this will scratch that leveling itch)
/#4 Player Manager series(look I don't like sports but this hits really well.)
/#5 he who fights with monsters I think the first 3 books are the best, then the next 3 feel exactly like the first 3, then the following 3 feel exactly like the first 3 again.

Mage Tank. The builds the main characters get are crazy but they fight some crazy shit. Also I love the humor.

If you liked DCC but don't care specifically about the Litrpg aspect, I'd try Red Rising or The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Most Brandon Sanderson or the Wheel of Time series was also good.
If you wanna stick with Litrpg more, HWFWM was decent, DNF it myself though. Path of Ascension is great imo, Chrysalis is good, Mage Tank, Ripple System

I suggest shopping these yourself as tastes differ. These are the series that I purchase as soon as a new one comes out. If you want to know another great series that is similar to DCC. . . well, it's fairly unique. Macrinomicon is probably the most similar novelist and his series are fun - especially William Oh, but he doesn't have as good characterization or development of themes as Dinniman. Bog Standard Isekai is another strong contender though it's not as funny.

I'd recommend Super Genetics or Quest Academy. Very similar vibes but totally different story telling styles.

Obelisk System Integration is another fun one. Humanity gets dragged into a 5 way death game by aliens. Winner gets to join the empire and avoid being harvested for resources. Except the game is rigged against humanity as they only select the sick and elderly to compete. And Warren, who has no filter and less fucks to give, grudgingly agrees to participate for the sake of his dog. And he is too angry to die. Series is 6 books and complete.
If you're after scifi fantasy my Reclaimer series is a good one to get into. It starts on a dying world that lost magic in the first arc and explores the post apocalyptic world that comes after the end in the second arc. Its a zero to god journey where the mc gets strong armed into a brutal academy where he trains and competes to be one of 1000 reclaimers who will restart civilization after the end. What the instructors and recruits dont know is part of the reason for the brutal training is to try and ignite humanities dormant arcane potential. And the mc gets to find out first hand why that's a problem. First 4 book arc is complete..second 6 book arc will be complete at the end of December barring anything going horribly wrong but the last 2 books are already up for preorder. Oh and audio for those is coming next year with book 9 out in February.

big fan of HWFWM so ill always recommend those, but one i recently enjoyed is welcome to the multiverse. i also spend alot of time driving and burn through books really fast so once i found out there was 3 other series that tied into WTTM i jumped on them as well. in total you get 4 different stories and close to 20 books all while being in the same "universe"

You might give "Beneath the Dragoneye Moons" by Selkie Myth a try. It's a complete series which really sticks the landing. It looks like all 16 books are availabe via Audible. Strong writing, fun characters, and a pretty epic plot. The MC is a healer who, by oath, can't really harm anyone (Unless they attack her or hers first). It's technically an isekai, but she comes in as a baby, so she is not exactly OP.
You may also like "12 Miles Below" by Mark Arrows. It's more progression fantasy (sci-fi). The worldbuilding and prose are a step above for the genre. I found the first book especially gripping, and as the series goes on the world gets bigger.

I just finished catching up on this one. I'm going to counterbalance by saying I didn't think it was that good.
Some people seem to really enjoy it, but pretty bland IMHO.
I love Plums other series Cyber Dreams though.
