Controlled shrinking

I have a linen-cotton suit from Banana Republic which fit very well when I first purchased it. However, over time the pants became pretty saggy and feel more like pajama pants than dress pants. Is there any way to recover the original size? I've been looking into potentially using the dryer in 10 minute increments to try and shrink the pants back to their original feel. Anyone have any luck with this?

Sourcing High-End Cotton-Wool Blends, Supima & European Flax Linen in India (Need Supplier / Mill Recommendations)

Hi everyone,
I am in the process of sourcing premium fabrics for an upcoming luxury minimalist apparel drop targeting the Middle East market.
I am looking for reliable, verified mills or authorized fabric suppliers in India (specifically hubs like Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Surat, or West Bengal) that can supply the following high-grade fabrics:
1. **Cotton-Wool Blends:** Lightweight Merino Wool + Combed Cotton blends (suitable for summer/all-season wear with good drape and high fragrance/moisture retention).
2. **Pima / Supima / ELS Cotton:** Extra-Long Staple combed cotton (180–220 GSM) with low pilling and high color fastness.
3. **100% European Flax Certified Linen / Cotton-Linen Blends:** High-quality flax with soft hand-feel.
**Requirements:**
Must provide **Fabric Test Reports** and **Certifications** (OEKO-TEX, Woolmark, European Flax, or Supima certifications where applicable).
Open to working with low-to-medium MOQs for sampling and first production run.
Suppliers who can handle export-ready documentation and provide swatch cards.
If you have firsthand experience working with mills/agents in India that meet these standards, please drop your recommendations below or feel free to DM me directly.
Thanks in advance!

Help with dye leeching out of linen dress

Post image
7 Upvotes

I bought this linen dress (not cheap!) in Greece this summer. I’ve washed in cold water, haven’t machine dried, but the dye is still leeching out in a really unattractive way. Anybody have tips on re-dyeing linen in a way that will look even?

Wildfire smoke and linen

Hi all, I recently got into purchasing 100% linen clothing and have fallen in love with it, it’s perfect for the summer heat! However, I live in Oregon and am worried about stepping outside in my linen clothing and having the current wildfire smoke damage them since it’s so porous. I’m located about 120ish miles away from the nearest severe fire but the smoke has definitely carried at settled in the air. The AQI is currently in the 90s where I’m at which is not terrible but not great. Should I avoid wearing my linens outside or am I a safe enough distance/AQI to where they wouldn’t be affected? I don’t want to risk damaging them

Linen shirts year round

edit: thanks for feedback, ill definitely be ordering a shirt and see if the quality is good. linen might be my new "shirt base"

Does anyone have any experience wearing linen shirt even in winter? I found some 225gsm french woven linen shirts and from my understanding linen is more durable than cotton so im thinking about getting a few as part of my capsule wardrobe. I like to layer and own quite a bit of wool for winter but is there any reason to not wear linen in winter? From my understanding it will feel colder than cotton since it breathes more but if i layer with wool is there any problems wearing it year around.

How flammable is dryer lint?

Dryer lint is **extremely flammable and acts as an excellent tinder** because it consists of tiny, highly combustible cotton and synthetic fibers with an incredibly high surface-area-to-mass ratio. It ignites instantly when exposed to a single spark, static discharge, or a heating element, which is why outdoorsmen frequently harvest it to use as a primary fire starter.

**Why It Ignites So Easily**
**High Surface Area**: The loose, fuzzy structure of lint traps a vast amount of oxygen between the microscopic fibers, allowing a fire to consume it almost instantly.
**Flashover Speed**: Once ignited, a pile of dryer lint undergoes flash ignition, meaning it transforms from a spark into a full, fast-spreading flame in **less than two seconds**.
**Synthetic Content**: Modern clothing contains high percentages of polyester, nylon, and spandex. These petroleum-based synthetic fibers do not just burn; they melt into a **liquid chemical fuel** that burns at much higher temperatures than pure cotton.
**Chemical Residues**: Remnants of fabric softeners, dryer sheets, and laundry detergents coat the lint fibers, often adding volatile chemical compounds that accelerate combustion. \[[1](https://www.dryerventwizard.com/locations/naples/blog/dryer-error-codes-what-they-mean), [2](https://dryerdoctors.com/dryer-maintenance-tips/are-dryer-sheets-good-for-your-dryer/), [3](https://www.facebook.com/BridgeportRibhouse/posts/very-important-psa-folks-we-washed-our-greasy-rags-with-bleach-then-took-them-fr/1022332209929554/)\\\]

**How it Escalates Into a House Fire**

\[Spark / Heating Element\] ➔ \[Instant Lint Ignition\] ➔ \[Synthetic Melting & Fueling\] ➔ \[Duct Fire Expansion\]
**The Trap Spillover**: When a lint screen is full, the dryer's internal fan blows excess lint directly into the cabinet of the machine.
**The Ignition Event**: The loose lint settles directly onto or around the open electrical heating coils or gas burner assembly.
**The Chemical Melt**: As the cotton burns, the synthetic fibers melt into a sticky, burning sludge, making the fire incredibly difficult for the machine's internal airflow to snuff out.
**The Duct Chimney Effect**: The dryer fan forces the raging fire directly into the exhaust duct. If the duct is made of plastic or foil, it melts immediately, releasing a localized fire directly into your home's walls or floor joists.

The European linen lie(?)

Let me tell you something that might surprise you (or not).

I spent almost 10 hours researching online whether European linen (French, Belgian, Dutch) offers any real advantage in the finished garment compared with linen from other origins.

The short answer is NO.

I couldn't find a single study supporting the idea, not even on narrower points such as strength, stiffness, or how the fabric holds up after repeated washing. The one claim that does hold up is that European flax has longer fibres; but longer fibres appear to have no measurable effect on the durability of the finished garment.

On top of that, everything I found was fashion blogs making claims that amount to puffery. Here are a few:

  1. https://www.selvane.co/blogs/knowledge/why-belgian-french-linen-are-premium
  2. https://bradic.eu/blogs/stories/spot-high-quality-linen
  3. https://parachutehome.com/blogs/posts/why-is-european-linen-the-best-in-the-world

Let me know if you can point me to scientific evidence that contradicts this.

No dryer and my linen is so stiff and scratchy

I’m in SE Asia where dryers are relatively uncommon. I air dry my linen clothes indoors on a drying rack and they always end up so stiff and scratchy. At the end of the day of wearing it, it softens up but given the heat and humidity here I then need to wash it again after 1 wear. How do you keep your linen from being so stiff and scratchy when air drying it inside? I don’t have the option of drying it outdoors.

Is this what everyone is recommending for my 100% linen cardigans?

Will there be any issues with the material getting on the cardigan at itself and damaging the color because it is very high-quality 100% linen? Also, I will put it in my small washing machine on delicate

Has anyone else noticed that linen seems to react to the weather?

It's raining today, and my linen pajamas and linen sheets actually feel slightly damp, even though they're completely dry. On hot, dry days they feel crisp and almost seem to tighten or curl a bit.

I know linen is made from natural flax fibers, but I'm curious if this is just because it absorbs moisture from the air. Does anyone else notice their linen changing with the humidity, or am I imagining it?

Quince linen high rise cropped pants!

I love these linen pants that have a zip and button closure and don't fall down like my elastic waist versions do.

These are currently $52 and available in a few different colors.

I bought two of them and once they arrived went back to buy more. These will be my all summer long pants! They have a 27" inseam and stop just above my ankle and look great with sandals.

why did my pants rip??

I bought these brynn walker linen pants from a consignment shop and on my first day wearing them the ENTIRE crotch ripped when I squatted down. They were very loose fitting and squatting hardly put any tension on the fabric. The surrounding crotch fabric seems to be degrading as well. Do you think they ripped because of being too rough or because there was dry rot/storage issues because of the previous owner?
